Hast du Lust in einem halben Jahr nach Doha zufliegen? Ich kann nicht! Man, los ... ist wichtig Ok? Na gut!
Gut. Was ist Doha eigentlich? Stadt? Land? Fluss? Gut. Ein paar Fakten: Was ist Doha? Die Hauptstadt des Emirats Qatar am Golf. Nicht am persischen Golf - am arabischen Golf. Den persischen Golf gibt es genauso wenig auf dem Globus von Qatar Airways wie Isreal! Das reichste Land der Welt also. Gerade gelandet - da kommt auch schon der erste willige Gehilfe, der mir die Spiegeleier auf dem allseits essbereiten Fußboden brutzeln möchte. Die Hotelnacht kostet ... reden wir nicht drüber.
Was ist also Doha? Was ist hängengeblieben? Einordnen kann ich die Stadt nach wie vor überhaupt nicht. Sie ist maximal absurd - Maximal ambivalent. Die größte Baustelle der Welt. Downtown gab es vor acht Jahre noch nicht. Heute sind es 60 bis 70 Wolkenkratzer. Der alte Basar: Souq Waqif. Er ist zehn Jahre alt. Geschichte gibt es nicht - zumindest nicht zu sehen. Museen? 1! Dienstags geschlossen, also für mich de facto 0! Mit den Scheichs kann man reden, mit deren Frauen nicht. Es ist alles unfassbar artifiziell - nicht greifbar. Was soll man denken über eine Stadt, die aussieht wie eine gerade gelandete Ufo-Stadt? Eine Stadt, in der vollverschleierte Damen in Souvenir-Läden shoppen gehen, die zu 20% Schwerter anbieten und in der ein pubertierender Neureicher einen 100000-Dollar-Falken geschenkt bekommt, weil er jetzt ein Mann ist? Ich weiß es nicht.
Was ist fotografisch daraus geworden? Zu Beginn dachte ich, dass ich nichts anderes mache, als moderne Architektur zu fotografieren. So ist es gar nicht gekommen. Ich hoffe, die Bild-Mitbringsel gefallen euch trotzdem!

Kuwait, Doha, an abandoned dhows are allover the place being a good shelter for crabs and other sea species. toke this shot on a great day with a good friend Jamal alayobi. the sky was almost clear so I had to borrow some clouds :P

Art installation by Swiss artist Urs Fischer at the Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar, captured in a quick iPhone snap during a transit stop on my way to Australia in February 2020.
If you look closely you'll notice that the lamp is embedded in the bear's head.
This was a quick travel shot near the market, whilst melting in the oppressive heat of Doha last year. They came round the corner behind me and I had to aim fast, they were deep in conversation. I have played with this to try and get the non sky toned, best I can do with my limited skills
