I had so many different ways to process this that I drove my self crazy. I finally decided to just use it as it was shot.

Your inspiration this week is Still Life. A couple of pieces of fruit on a table won't impress in the advanced challenge though... so really be creative.

This weeks Dogwood Challenge is still life. I love the all the bright Easter colors, so hard to decided what to do. I will say that I am so happy to have my lens back from Nikon repair. Really missed it. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!!

Dogwood Week 9 - Artistic:Still Life

a.k.a. A couple of pieces of fruit on a table.

Dogwood week 9: Still life

After weeks of experimentation, my result is "just a couple of pieces of fruit on the table," well... hopefully a bit more than that (or less, given the pieces that have been cut off).

Took quite a bit of slicing to get this all to this strict checker-board arrangement. Long enough for one of my flashes to run out of power, accidentally resulting in a much better lighting that gives the image some depth.

This is my personal arsenal. They are all old motorless prime lenses I've bought after selling my motorized Canon ones. They were built between the 70's and the 80's and they are sharper than nowadays lenses.

This arch known as Victoria Arch can be randomly found in the grounds of Headingley Campus of Leeds Beckett University where I work. It was apparently originally built in 1700s and then altered to commemorate the visit of Victoria to Leeds in 1858 - although she came no where near Kirkstall Grange (as the campus then was). My Cherry Tomatoes

The brief for this week was as follows;

Artistic – Still Life: Your inspiration this week is Still Life. A couple of pieces of fruit on a table won’t impress in the advanced challenge though… so really be creative.

Work is really getting in the way of my photography at this point but fortunately the week 9 challenge can be done at or around the home.

Given that I have been working on a vegetable garden I thought I would use some of the early produce in the image. These are some Cherry Tomatoes that I've grown and they taste amazing. So juicy and full of flavour.

Whilst this isn't the most exciting or artistic of images to the outsider, it is to me because I have hand grown the subject and thats an art and creative in itself :)

Finally completed week 9 artistic shadows.

Now up to date (until the next lapse!)

This has been a real challenge trying to do something different. I have tried a few different techniques but this is the first I am happy enough with to post!

Sometimes a shadow can be meaningful...
