In fact the whole village is named after the Saviour. Sotira in Greek means Saviour. Sotira is a well-known village in the Ammochostos (Famagusta) area of Cyprus and plenty of old churches have survived in the village centre. The "Church of the Metamorphosis/Transfiguration of Christ" is currently closed. There is archaeological work going on, but the building was too small anyway and, in the 20th century, had been replaced by the "Church of the Metamorphosis/Transfiguration of Jesus". I'll come back to this interesting change of title. This old church here goes back to the 13th century, back to the time of the crusades and the French occupation of Cyprus. The building began as a simple barrel roof construction. In Venetian times, the dome was added, and the spire, also in Venetian style, is a 19th century product (still built during the Ottoman occupation). The archaeological dig showed that this church is resting on foundations of a fifth century Christian basilica. So, the question of who the Saviour is, has always been central to this village. Metamorphosis or Transfiguration denotes the visible appearance of Jesus, not as man, but as God. But "Christ"? Christ is already a title presupposing divinity, no need to transfigure here. That is why, I would guess, that in the 20th century the title was changed to transfiguration of Jesus. It makes more sense. Sense is, of course, in the eye of the beholder. If, as Christian doctrine has it, Jesus Christ was one person, but had two natures (God and Man), and if the Trinity consist of three persons, but having only on nature, there is trouble if you apply Aristotelian logic. Things are made not easier by the gospel of John which stipulates that Christ was always there with God and, therefore, had pre-existence. If you find this difficult, it only means that your mind is working. The question of who the Saviour is is not a puzzle the mind can resolve. But if you sing the question, turn it into sound, or into vision, you may be on a different path. Fuji X-Pro3.

The newest version of Grauland is finished finally. This one is called The Divinity Machine.
The Divinity Machine is located in an ancient black alien pyramid, on a world with no continents. Here there are just millions of rocky islands and mist.
And on this particular island lies the heart of dreams and mysticism, spirituality and power.

I have photographed this old man many times over the years, Mostly as it stands proud surrounded by water. On this trip the lake held less water and I could acutally walk out to the tree and capture a fresh angle as the suns first rays warmed it's old skin.

Henry Miller once said that, “One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.”
I feel like as a photographer, this quote has become increasingly more relevant to me the more years I travel the world. Each year, the world becomes a smaller place as global tourism increases exponentially in nearly all of the major travel destinations. And that means that it also becomes more challenge to visually portray these places in a new and unique way.
But saying that, the fact that so many photographers visit this location only motivates me. Since we can all stand here in the same place, I get excited about trying to capture something that has been seen countless times before in a new and interesting way. That’s why when a thunder storm rolled over the city center of Florence, I set up to capture the dazzling display!

So meanwhile...for Good Friday I have chosen one of my “Christ Tree” images, as this particular tree seems to embody the evocative feelings that gazing upon these series of photographs that I took at that time in my life always brings me, even now, some time after.
Christ was the World Tree, that we cut down. We potentially cut down our own future, but He knew that these memories would remain, that His sacrifice would never be forgotten while there were people who resisted the curtailment of freedom of spiritual choice in this world.
This living Christ Tree shows that love can still grow if we let it, that compassion can still flourish. But this living Christ Tree is also a reminder that all living things can contain a sorrow within them, as we carry our memories with us, not just from events in our own lives but also from events in the past, from our history.
This living Christ Tree is a reminder that we are part of the life on this planet, that what we do affects everybody else, we can never really escape it, because this life is all around us, and what we have made of it, for good or ill.
There comes a time when we must leave our lives on this earth, and let our souls travel on; how brave are those who choose to sacrifice themselves to further mankind’s understanding. But even for them, the light will come to relieve them of their burdens, enabling them to finally rest. Christ was such an individual, part human, part divine.
There is a spark of divinity in all of us, and will respond if given a chance to grow. The world could be a much better place if we listened to that voice telling us how things could be. All we have to do is turn to the Light.

The Christ Tree was photographed in Sussex in the UK, near a village called Wilmington, and one of my most favourite places to be. In the right light, the Christ Tree speaks to you.

Old church buildings and the Milky Way are such a perfect combination. I shot a sunrise at this rural church late last year and I knew I had to return to capture the Milky Way rising over it.
Morning at Cerro Torre, one of the mountains of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field in South America. It is located at Los Glaciares National Park in the border between Argentina and Chile.
We've known these raccoon kits since they were tiny little things. A while ago they were orphaned, quite likely before their ma taught them how to forage for themselves. They certainly know how to look pitiful.
I hope that between showing up here for handouts they're honing their natural hunting skills.
As I write this I hear their odd, alien-like chittering voices from the tree line beyond the kitchen window. I have a feeling that if I turn around I'll lock eyes with them looking at me from their perch on a branch.
