Starting on a project for the mages of Convergence. I wanted to do a tarot card for each of the different bloodlines.
Valentine is a Fortuna Mage represented by the tarot card Wheel of Fortune. The meekest of Fortuna's children have minor oracular and divination abilities. Those who have grown the most powerful? They have the ability not only to see the future, but to know which threads to pull to change Fate's course.

The grey heron (Ardea cinerea) is a long-legged predatory wading bird of the heron family, Ardeidae, native throughout temperate Europe and Asia and also parts of Africa. It is resident in much of its range, but some populations from the more northern parts migrate southwards in autumn. A bird of wetland areas, it can be seen around lakes, rivers, ponds, marshes and on the sea coast. It feeds mostly on aquatic creatures which it catches after standing stationary beside or in the water or stalking its prey through the shallows.
Standing up to a metre tall, adults weigh from 1 to 2 kg (2.2 to 4.4 lb). They have a white head and neck with a broad black stripe that extends from the eye to the black crest. The body and wings are grey above and the underparts are greyish-white, with some black on the flanks. The long, sharply pointed beak is pinkish-yellow and the legs are brown.
The birds breed colonially in spring in "heronries", usually building their nests high in trees. A clutch of usually three to five bluish-green eggs is laid. Both birds incubate the eggs for a period of about 25 days, and then both feed the chicks, which fledge when seven or eight weeks old. Many juveniles do not survive their first winter, but if they do, they can expect to live for about five years.
In Ancient Egypt, the deity Bennu was depicted as a heron in New Kingdom artwork. In Ancient Rome, the heron was a bird of divination. Roast heron was once a specially-prized dish; when George Neville became Archbishop of York in 1465, four hundred herons were served to the guests.
Macro Mondays theme ''Cards''
Nobody can really predict the future but if you believe it is possible, Tarot cards and crystal balls are often used. The cards used in this picture are a replica of the 1870 "Grand Jeu de l'Oracle Des Dames". Or more simply, "le tarot d'Etteilla".
What do I see in your future? Hum, let me look... I see travels in your future! And of course a lot of beautiful pictures. 😉
Happy Macro Monday!
Thank you everyone for your visits, faves, and kind comments.
There is something so totally majestic about the whiteness, height and complex masts of the "Kaiwo Maru."

WHAT'S IN A NAME?
I wanted to know how its name translates into English, but I couldn't find any translations of "Kaiwo" online. So I tried the separate characters & , and best I could find was "Sovereign" + "Sea." "Maru" ("Circle") has an interesting history in the naming of Japanese sea vessels, as what does "circle" have to do with a boat? Well, check this out from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_ship-naming_conventions:
"The word maru (丸 meaning "circle"?) is often attached to Japanese ship names. ...
Several theories purport to explain this practice:
The most common is that ships were thought of as floating castles, and the word referred to the defensive "circles" or maru that protected the castle.
The suffix -maru is often applied to words representing something beloved, and sailors applied this suffix to their ships.
The term maru is used in divination and represents perfection or completeness, or the ship as "a small world of its own".
The myth of Hakudo Maru, a celestial being that came to earth and taught humans how to build ships. It is said that the name maru is attached to a ship to secure celestial protection for itself as it travels.
For the past few centuries, only non-warships bore the -maru ending. Its use was intended as a good hope naming convention that would allow a ship to leave port, travel the world, and return safely to home port: hence the complete circle or "round trip" arriving back at its origin unhurt.
Note also that "Hinomaru", or "sun-disc", is a name often applied to the national flag of Japan.
Today many commercial and private ships are still named using this convention.

A scrying mirror is used in divination...ie gazing into a crystal ball, reading tea leaves, water in ink etc... Remember...Snow White..mirror, mirror, on the wall... Searching for lost souls, answers to questions they may hold. Claude glass,, a small convex black mirror, is not the same. These were used by landscape painters to isolate the subject that was reflected in it, which affected the tonal range of color making it more suitable for painting. The artist looked into the mirror with their back to the scene.

The I Ching, usually translated Book of Changes, is an ancient Chinese divination text that is among the oldest of the Chinese classics.
Originally a divination manual in the Western Zhou period (1000–750 BC), the I Ching was transformed over the course of the Warring States and early imperial periods (500–200 BC) into a cosmological text with a series of philosophical commentaries known as the "Ten Wings".
After becoming part of the Five Classics in the 2nd century BC, the I Ching was the subject of scholarly commentary and the basis for divination practice for centuries across the Far East, and eventually took on an influential role in Western understanding of East Asian philosophical thought.
As a divination text, the I Ching is used for a traditional Chinese form of cleromancy known as I Ching divination, in which bundles of yarrow stalks are manipulated to produce sets of six apparently random numbers ranging from 6 to 9.
Each of the 64 possible sets corresponds to a hexagram, which can be looked up in the I Ching.
The hexagrams are arranged in an order known as the King Wen sequence.
The interpretation of the readings found in the I Ching has been endlessly discussed and debated over the centuries.

Excerpt from www.gardinermuseum.on.ca/event/linda-rotua-sormin-uncerta...:
Linda Rotua Sormin: Uncertain Ground is the culmination of over 20 years of remarkable exploration and innovation, bringing together clay, sculpture, video, sound, hand-cut watercolour painting, and digital fabrication in a multi-sensory environment that asks how life in the modern, cosmopolitan city can coexist with memories and experiences of our ancestral traditions.
Raised in Canada and Thailand, artist Linda Rotua Sormin has emerged as a leading voice in sculpture with her fearless, monumental structures. Continually pushing clay beyond its limits, Sormin’s web-like forms burst through the boundaries of the medium, literally breaking apart and re-convening in new forms. Colonial artifacts, everyday kitsch, and fragments from the artist’s studio floor dangle and nestle within the latticework.
In her first solo museum exhibition and largest project to date, Sormin delves into her lineage among the Batak people of Sumatra in the Indonesian archipelago, exploring how images and ideas of her ancestors have, sometimes unwittingly, infused her artistic practice. She studied traditional Batak divination books, available to her only in European museum collections, with access strictly controlled, as well as the script and spoken language of her ancestors. Building on her research, Sormin weaves a rich family history of shamanic and other spiritual practices fragmented by colonialism, Christianization, and diaspora.
The exhibition unfolds on three levels: a central raised platform evokes a volcanic lake with an underworld of mythical beasts and coded divination texts; a tangle of precarious ceramic sculptures suggests an earthly middle ground inhabited by humans; and a suspended projection screen references a celestial realm of spirits and birds. The result is an environment that feels alive and in motion, offering audiences an encounter that is both visceral and contemplative.

Nephomancy and Nephelomancy from the web
Nephelomancy Shirleytwofeathers.com link below
Nephomancy or Nephelomancy is divination by studying clouds. This involves observing and interpreting the color, shape and position of clouds in the sky. The Celtic Druids made extensive use of nephomancy, which they called neladoracht.
Celtic shamans sometimes practiced a form of Nephomancy that was closely related to Hydromancy and Scrying. After finding a hollowed stone or other depression that was filled with rain water, priests would look into it studying the cloud formations reflected on the water’s surface.
To practice Nephomancy today, one should ask specific questions and then observe the shape and disposition of the clouds. This is easy enough to do in most parts of the world and requires only a basic understanding of the forces involved.

Halloween or Hallowe'en, also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows' Eve, or All Saints' Eve, is a celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day.
Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of All Hallows' Evening), also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows' Eve, or All Saints' Eve, is a celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. It begins the three-day observance of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed.
It is widely believed that many Halloween traditions originated from ancient Celtic harvest festivals, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain; that such festivals may have had pagan roots; and that Samhain itself was Christianized as Halloween by the early Church. Some believe, however, that Halloween began solely as a Christian holiday, separate from ancient festivals like Samhain.
Halloween activities include trick-or-treating (or the related guising), attending Halloween costume parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, divination games, playing pranks, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories and watching horror films. In many parts of the world, the Christian religious observances of All Hallows' Eve, including attending church services and lighting candles on the graves of the dead, remain popular, although elsewhere it is a more commercial and secular celebration. Some Christians historically abstained from meat on All Hallows' Eve, a tradition reflected in the eating of certain vegetarian foods on this vigil day, including apples, potato pancakes, and soul cakes.

Matsumoto Castle (松本城, Matsumoto-jō) stands majestically amid the City of Matsumoto, situated 600 meters above sea level near the center of the Matsumoto Basin, and with a background of the 3,000-meter-high Japan Alps, which extends westerly.
One of two old names of this town, Fuchu (provincial government) and Fukashi (basin) was taken as the name of a fort when it was constructed at this spot by a samurai in the early 16th century. The spot is said to have been selected especially because it was believed upon divination that the spot was auspicious and prosperously blessed by shijin (the four guardian animals: the tortoise, dragon, sparrow, and tiger). The Fukashi Castle was renamed by Ogasawara Sadayoshi in 1582.
This historic castle is an original construction, and one of the 4 castles in Japan to be listed as national treasures - the others being Himeji, Inuyama, and Hikone.
