Mark Swan's bronze sculpture "Diva" at the Royal Horticultural Society Wisley Gardens in Surrey. There are plenty of sculptures in this vast area, and this one in particular, facing a pond and surrounded by benches where people can sit down and relax, produces an element of playfulness. Playfulness is important for horticulture which, at the RHS Wisley, people are a dead serious about.

Many dives are unsuccessful and many of my shots either too late, too early or out of focus!
But that's the challenge when trying to get a good shot of a diving Kingfisher!

The osprey are coming back to the pond more and more frequently and I believe the young are coming with their parents.
If you follow my images you know I’ve been spending a lot of time with the Burrowing Owls. Owls in general are a favorite subject, Burrowing Owls in particular. They have personality and watching their chicks gain confidence as they put on their feathers and venture from the nest burrow is a blast. This one is the male, who had taken up one of his hunting positions on a tree. I was doing my best to keep my lens on him, as long as my arms allowed, and luckily caught this dive down in my direction. He was headed to the ground to pick up the remains of an earlier meal he had taken there. To me, he looks very fierce in this position and I would not want to be the object of his desires. He’s been a good provider, bringing many frogs, a couple of birds and assorted insects. Frogs, by the way, are enjoyed by the owls marinated and dried out with just the right topping of sand. Hmmm good! (Athene cunicularia) (Sony a1, 200-600 lens @ 415, 1/5000 second, f/6.3, ISO 1250)

This gull has its eyes on a minnow just under the surface and is well on its way to diving in and scooping the fish up!
The intense color and light of the setting sun made for a lovely backdrop here.
This is the same Lesser Scaup that I took the photo of diving. She came up with weeds around her. Mill Lake, Abbotsford, B.C.
The hummers around our feeder at work are crazy right now - we have just one feeder hanging outside a window at our gatehouse, and there can be as many as 7 or 8 huddled together on it. So I came early for an hour session with them. What a blast. This one is in a dive. It's my favorite and most difficult shot to get as the bird goes from hover to dive - my big bucks camera can't seem to stay on the eye so this one is a prize success.
You might note my green-tree background is just twigs right now, waiting for a new set of Spring leaves.
Taken off the Yorkshire coast on a boat trip. Can't believe that this was 2 years ago! I'm sure that time goes more quickly the older you get...

I would like to say my lightning reactions resulted in this shot, but it was a bit of luck, I was pressing the shutter at just the moment the Kingfisher dived. No pre-capture here!
Eagle Stopped by to fish in my neighborhood pond, and causes an uproar among local birds. In fact, it was the sound of the ducks, geese, and black birds that drew my attention to his presence.

Caught this delightful guillemot having the time of his life diving and surfacing in the lovey aqua sea
Dive bombing is a little different from photo bombing! This red-tailed hawk took exception to my walking on the trail in its territory and kept circling low over my head!

Negril, Jamaica.
- Many people jump off the 27 feet cliff and swim in the beautiful clear Carribean ocean water at Rick's Cafe. Negril is located on the west end of Jamaica.
- Beaucoup de gens sautent de cette falaise de 8 mètres pour se baigner dans la belle eau claire de la Mer des Caraïbes au Rick's Cafe. Negril est situé à l'extrémité ouest de la Jamaïque.
- Muchas personas saltar desde el acantilado de 8 metros y nadar en el hermoso claro agua del mar Caribe en el Rick's Cafe. Negril está situado en el extremo oeste de Jamaica.
Early on in the evening for our midnight sun/iceberg cruise in Greenland. A few sightings of majestic humpback whales - none breeching for us that evening- but a few flicking their tails when they dive down to deeper water.
Each year we have an event in Ramona CA called the "Hawk Watch." It is a preservation and educational show exhibiting Raptors that either are injured and cannot be re-introduced into the wild or have been raised in captivity and imprinted on man and cannot fend for themselves. This is one that was in a dive and I was very fortunate to capture this image. ****This image was purchased by a band for their latest “album and cover” untitled, you guessed it.. “Hawk Dive” The bands name is “Omega Tones” Quit honoring for me!****
