For the Macro Mondays theme: 'Unusual Patterns'.

Strangely formed bubbles inside a little hand dispenser of disinfecting gel. Some of them are not round…..

Please keep cleaning your hands and stay safe and healthy.

Happy Macro Monday ;-))

I don't know who this person is, the photo was taken spontaneously. I was just walking through the hall at the exhibition and saw this man in a red light. NAMM 2021 in Moscow, PROLIGHT+sound pavilion.

What did I get in the end?

Red - corresponds to the radiation of an electromagnetic wave with a length of approximately 625-740nm (the beam spectrum consists only of red).

RED color: It is often associated with energy, war and danger. This color has a strong emotional impact and can speed up metabolism, increase breathing rate and increase blood pressure.

Scientists from the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, Scotland) have developed a new method to combat antibiotic-resistant pathogenic bacteria in the hospital environment. It consists in the use of high intensity light. The new disinfection method proved to be much more effective than conventional cleaning and disinfection. As microbiologist John Anderson explains, this uses "a narrow spectrum of visible wavelengths that magnetize the molecules contained in the bacterial environment."

Katica steam locomotive

The steam locomotive "Katica" is closely related to the history and recognition of our place, as it gives Pragersko a special stamp. "Katica" is a 15-meter-long, 4.5-meter-high, 48-ton steam locomotive of the 125-037 series, manufactured in Hungary. Until the middle of the sixties of the 20th century, it was used for freight, collection and passenger trains, but mostly for moving and assembling trains at stations. She drove on the route Tezno–Pragersko–Čakovec–Kotoriba. In 1970 it was protected and in 1978 it was placed in its current location on Pragersko.

On September 22, 2014, a third-class two-axle passenger car was added to Katica, manufactured in 1900 in Graz under the number CS 207001. It is wooden, has one room and is equipped with wooden benches. He drove on the Dolenjska and Prekmurje lines. In 1971, it was withdrawn from traffic and protected as a railway museum. Until 2014, it was stored in a disinfection plant in Leš in Pragerski, since then it has been standing next to "Katica".

DID YOU KNOW …

... that the locomotive was named after the passenger Katica, who was late for the train every day and was waiting for her;

... that a wagon like the one next to the locomotive was colloquially called a "cowboy" wagon;

... that the wagon was in the first composition of the museum train?

Dampflokomotive Katica

... dass die Lokomotive nach der Fahrgastin Katica benannt wurde, die jeden Tag zu spät zum Zug kam und auf sie wartete;

... dass ein Waggon wie der neben der Lokomotive umgangssprachlich "Cowboy"-Wagen genannt wurde;

The native Bluebell { Hyacinthoides- scripta } is becoming quite rare in our woodlands these days, owing to cross pollination with the awful imported garden centre Spanish version. The only way to destroy them completey is burn the bulbs. Poor Guy Fawkes was innocent!! Anyone who has stood in a Bluebell wood in the early morning and watched these graceful nodding flowers whose colour seems to tint the very air itself, and smelled there exquisite perfume is indeed so very lucky. I often go just to look at them. They are truly stunning!

Do disinfect your shoes and hands before and after you visit them please. We should be all used to that these days!

And keep safe and I hope you like the photo.

Distant distance hugs to all of you.

Update on Filou for our Flickr friends:

Sadly the news isn't good. It turned out that he has a lymphoma, a malignant tumor, in his ear canal. There isn't much that can be done apart from continuing the medication he gets now (cortisone). He will see the vet every two weeks to monitor his condition and to clean and disinfect the ear. For now he still has slight coordination issues but is quite active and eats well again.

Wisdom of the week:

When two tomcats fight ... you shouldn't interfere!!!

Of course, that was my mistake - you can't take a tomcat on the warpath in your arms.

Timmy wanted to fight with Cookie, one of Sammy's housemates, on the other side of the creek. Cookie had hidden under a car. I tried to calm Timmy down and take him in my arms. Result: meine.stimme.de/heilbronn/natur/wenn-zwei-kater-streiten-...

Then I tried to hold Timmy back with my foot - in vain. He also disappeared under the car, and then there was a horrible

screaming and black fur blew out from under the car.

Then there was silence and the two of them came out from under the car - in different directions. Neither was seriously injured.

I did not notice that the shirt was full of blood until two hours

later when I took off my cardigan. The blood was washed out with cold water and then I disinfected the scratches. They have almost healed.

Timmy cuddled me a lot later in the evening. He must have had a guilty conscience :-)))

PS: Cookie looks exactly like Timmy: black with a white spot on his chest. Cookie is a little bit smaller than Timmy.

This enchanted wood which covers a huge area lies in a beautiful valley surrounded by the mountains of the Wicklow National Park which number about 44 in total. I discovered it quite by accident a few years ago when I was on a trek and just went exploring in a wood. Lucky me as many peole stay on the forest track and pass by without even knowing its there.

Because of its location and the cool damp conditions that occur there, these Blubells appear late and extend their floweing period as far as the end of May. As the trees here are mainly of Sessile Oak their leaves dont start to appear till mid May allowing plenty of light on to the forest floor when most growth in other area is cut back after early april due to the lack of light.

Native Bluebells are now a threatened species as they are cross pollinating with the Spanish garden centre version, a dreadful unscented anemic blue stiff stemmed weed version. They should be banned. The public are being asked to dig them up from their gardens and burn them. Ive seen lots of them growing on roadside verges where people inadvertently dump garden soil and weeds and spread the bulbs.

Its a lot better not to have bluebells in your garden at all and go visit them in the woods in their natural surroundings as its an amazing experience for the senses! Alway clean and disinfect your clothing and shoes before and afterwards to prefent the cross pollinaeion.

I think the light and shade is amazing and it seems to form a pathway through the flowers and the colours are enhanced by the green mossy stones and the dark brown bark of the Oak trees which seem to stand guard over the flowers.

I do hope you like the photo as much as I loved being there and taking it! Wonderful!

Have a happy Tuesday and the remainder of the week ahead!

Best wishes my friends!!!

Hello my amazing Flickr friends !

Today is a green day at Color my World Daily and lets celebrate with another green picture ! And as we all know, celebrating is better with people. So here we go, let me introduce some new tiny people I got. They are from China and since they were traveling in very difficult conditions for the last few weeks (months ?? Honestly it took forever… I almost forgot about ordering my tiny people !! ) they are a little bit pale …

But dont you worry, they aren’t sick (they all tested negative for Covid-19 and they had to go through a very, very complexe disinfection process !!), they just lack some vitamin D … and maybe a touch of paint…

But for now, lets just welcome our new « ghost -white » guests by showing them our kindness and support !! Happy green day !!

Who misses having new people over ? I do !

FYI: in Montreal, due to sanitary measures, we aren't allowed to gather with people from other households (even if they are your family) in private spaces...

Mucho, mucho amor for you all !! Have a beautiful day and see you later!!

Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and well!! And see you soon on Flickr !!

the processing of bulbs for export, and other activities in the floral industry are major economic activities in this area. Bulb cultivation in this area began at the end of the 16th century. Tulip mania in the early 17th century played a particularly important role in its development.

The bulbs are planted in the autumn. The earth is covered with straw and packed down to help protect the bulbs from the frost. The flower season begins with the flowering of crocuses in March, followed at the end of March by the combined flowering of tulips, narcissus (also known as daffodils) and hyacinths, which extends into early May. In the autumn, a further display occurs when gladioli, dahlias, carnations and asters flower.

These flowers are often grown primarily for the bulb, not the flower. After they have bloomed, the flowers are decapitated. The flower may be used in floral wreaths. In the summer the bulbs are dug out and the plant remains are burned in the fields. The bulbs are sorted, the bulbs large enough to flower being sold and the smaller bulbs replanted. The bulbs are peeled, usually by students or foreign workers. They are then disinfected and dried out at a high temperature in huge bulb sheds (bollenschuren), a characteristic building in this area. The bulbs are traded at flower auctions in Rijnsburg, Lisse and Aalsmeer and then exported from nearby Schiphol Airport to many countries throughout the world.

Plantago major can be applied directly to the skin to stop bleeding. The back of the leaves will get the infections out and cleans the wound. Once the wound has become clean, new leaves are laid on, but now with the upper side down to the wound. The juice of the leaves will also help relieve the pain after biting of poisonous insects, and skin irritations which may have occurred after close contact with burns.

Studies have shown that the leaves contain chemical substances that disinfect damage, kill pathogenic organisms, prevent inflammation and accelerate the healing of wounds, tumors, insect bites and infections. The fresh leaves are shown to be the most effective.

Says Here, I Should Use Lysol To Disinfect The Things I Touch The Most....

I've Got A Feeling This Is Gonna Burn.

I left the Peanut Butter unattended when I was disinfecting my feeders.. but someone couldn't wait.

Close-up, contre-jour, ND4 filter; Mitakon Speedmaster manual lens at F0.95.

So here's another story about the park outing...

As I got onto the bridge, getting distracted by trying to find a good frame, 3 girls (pre-teens) came up to me and wanted me to take their photos with my camera. None of them were wearing a facemask. I wasn't thinking of COVID because my mind was thinking which setting I should use for portraits. I took some photos for them, then one girl asked to take photos of her friends by herself. Again I was NOT thinking and I gave her the camera. It then got passed to another girl's hand, and by then two more older kids (boys) showed up. Now my alarm was raised, "What if they just run away with my camera?" I turned around and saw Hubby standing a few feet directly behind the girl who's holding the camera, sort of blocking her exit if she decided to run. I also inched closer to her just in case she would run away with it.

It ended well, she gave it back to me, then they lost interest and ran away.

It then dawned on me that not only I risked losing my camera, I allowed myself to be surrounded by 5 kids without facemasks!!! I had totally forgotten about the COVID threat because my mind was so preoccupied by taking photos.

The first thing I got home was to disinfect the camera and wash my face thoroughly.

Never again!

PS: As with their photos, I did ask one of them for her email address but she didn't have one. I then suggested she leave me with her cell phone number so that I could text her for her mom's later. She said "okay" but then they just left. Hubby said they were more into being photographed and had no interest in having the photos.

PPS: No, I have no intention to share any children's photos on social media, strangers or no strangers. In fact I already deleted their photos.

Cleaning

Talatamaty (Madagascar) - This young boy washes the display of his parents' shop. There must have been a lot of vestiges of the passage of flies on the food displayed in this display. Despite the use of soap, I don't know if the disinfection was total, especially since the water used for rinsing comes directly from the gutter which also serves as the sewer!

Before Corona these were Handkerchiefs and Hand Cream - and now also Hand Disinfection Gel and Mouth-Nose Protection Mask - like the most of us.

Many thanks for all your views, faves and comments.

I think that's all any of us can do- hang on, and be diligent about washing and disinfecting and social distancing . . .

This little lizard was hanging onto the fence post in the front of our New Orleans cottage!

Happy Fence Friday, Everybody!

Unfortunately this poor bird has a virus called Papilloma virus also known as "tassel foot" this is a contagious virus to other species of bird and is spread through infected perches, feeders and bird baths, untreatable in the wild it is recommended that feeders, perches etc are cleaned and disinfected and are removed for a couple of weeks or so to make birds disperse for a while to help alleviate the spread of the disease locally.

This guy doesn't seem to be enjoying the best of health around his eye and bill. Hopefully it's not Trichomoniasis which causes lesions in the throat and makes it progressively harder for the bird to eat or drink. It can be fatal, but not always. It caused the rapid decline of the British Greenfinch population from 2005/06 and this winter has apparently seen a renewed increase in the reports of birds suffering from this disease.

Although Greenfinch and Chaffinch are most likely to be affected, other garden birds such as Goldfinch, Siskin, Bullfinch and House Sparrow are also susceptible.

Apparently, the transmission of infection between birds is most likely to be feeding one another with regurgitated food during the breeding season or through food or drinking water contaminated from an infected bird.

This last point serves as a timely reminder for all of us to do what we can to help reduce the spread of this horrible disease by cleaning and disinfecting our garden feeders on a regular basis - once a week or fortnight is recommended. I clean mine quite regularly but I'm now determined to clean them at least once a fortnight.

There's lots more information on Trichomoniasis (and other bird diseases) and helpful advice on good hygiene practice on the RSPB's and BTO's websites if anyone is interested.

Taken at RSPB Old Moor.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.

Many thanks for all your comments and fav's 😊

Not sure if this is ISO compliant.

Sanatoriums were massively built at the beginning of the 20th century in regions isolated from pollution, in the mountains, on sunny plateaus to benefit from the great outdoors and the disinfecting and restorative properties of the sun.

The laundry building, completed in 1902, was located on the site of the women's lung sanatorium due to strict gender segregation. There, after soaking, the laundry from the 4 pavilions and the disinfection building was cooked for 30 minutes in the 4 electrically operated steam and flush washing machines with the addition of soap and soda and then rinsed with cold water. Finally, the laundry was dried in special centrifugal drying machines and flattened in a large mangle.

A fumigation chamber at Point Nepean quarantine station.

In the 1850s many fever stricken passengers immigrating from England had to disembark and quarantine. All their belongings were disinfected in the fumigation chambers.

Cold day in the hide, snow was forecast but we didn't get that.

We did have about an hour or rain.

Lots of Siskins and Goldfinch on the feeder today, unfortunately we also had a Chaffinch with trichomonosis is sometimes referred to as fat finch disease.

I have to go out and clear away dropped seed and then disinfect with Vircon to try and contain it.

I was told where on Mt. Diablo to find Lark sparrows. The only problem was that they were either a 2.5 mile trek or a 1250 foot climb up from the valley. The first time I went to find them, I took the longer trail. Though I found the landmarks, I found no Lark sparrows. However, I did find Rock Wrens, and became very enamored with them, the way they nested, built nest sites, and other things in their behaviors. And so, I spent the next week just getting to know them. After a week (during which I became an expert at 1250 foot climbs), I found my first Lark sparrow and five of its companions. A very striking sparrow, it was one that could not be confused with any other bird.

One was taking a dust bath; two were sitting on an ant hill; and it appeared as though two had taken up sentry posts although that is doubtful. (Over the next few months, I never heard a song or a call from one.) I had observed birds, horses, dogs, and animals on the savannah (from TV) taking dust baths. But it was the first of what would be two birds that practiced "anting." It seems that the ants would bite the sparrows (Northern Flickers were next) and spray drops of formic acid, and it was the latter that would leave the sparrows disinfected themselves. I have photos of the dusting and anting, and I'll upload them in the summer.

The lark sparrow (Chondestes grammacus) is a fairly large New World sparrow. This passerine bird breeds in southern Canada, much of the United States, and northern Mexico. It is much less common in the east, where its range is contracting. The populations in Mexico and adjacent states of the United States are resident, but other birds are migratory, wintering in the southern United States. On Mt. Diablo, even though I had trouble locating them, they are residents.

This may be one of favorite photos. Unhurried, I could reposition to get that background of sky, valley, clouds, and some flowers all very indistinct but making the sparrow even more the center of attention, and then he gave me that over-the-shoulder look.

Patetic.

Known as the Antituberculosis Sanatorium of Collserola, this building is only its laundry and disinfection part. In fact, the sanatorium was never finished and was destroyed after the civil war. In any case, this interesting abandoned and forgotten modernist structure was the work of Joan Rubió and built in 1902-1905.

It also shows once again the absolute contempt for Catalan historical heritage that "our" governments have. Pathetic.

Pardon the long delay...These and any pictures had to wait a week for editing due to my house being under attack by the flu virus.. particularly me, myself and I. One step ahead and five steps behind seems to be the theme of my life. Now that i'm not feeling like death itself.. here's one baby step ahead. Now excuse me while I go disinfect my bubble again. ;)

The common Green Bottle Fly - Lucilia sericata - is slightly larger than the House Fly and is brilliant metallic blue-green with black markings and short black bristles on the thorax. Also known as a Blowfly or Carrion Fly, it is extremely common and found in most areas of the world. The larvae of this little creature may be used in 'Maggot Therapy' where the maggots are introduced into non healing skin and soft tissue wounds for the purpose of cleaning out the dead tissue within the wound and disinfection. Sounds nasty but it really can work. This one was seen at Three Sisters Recreational Area near Wigan.

Candid eye contact street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. A good example of how not to wear a facemask during a pandemic. Italy has recently joined a growing list of places requiring the use of masks outdoors which, given the season, is a very sensible move especially in heavily populated areas. Just remember that you have to treat the outside of the mask as a contaminated surface. Disinfect as per manufacturer instruction and wash your hands after touching it. Wearing one like this is just making it easier for the virus. Stay safe everyone!

Pair came to the feeders today, one of my favourite birds even if, getting a photo of one with a clean beak is nigh on impossible.

A Siskin looking like it might have Trichomonosis, all my feeders will be even more rigorously scrubbed and disinfected tomorrow.
