Erui and Requia are discussing what to focus on the celebration, the 1/4th of the road towards the 1000 subscribers or my birthday. Aigara's hoping they will settle it soon, the cake is heavy... =P
Sorry for being absent for so long, dears. I had everything planned to posting every two weeks like I was trying to do for a while now, so the exams wouldn't bother for that... But unfortunately the hard exams weren't the worst of my problems. The sudden and tragic death of my uncle shook my family with a lot of force, and the past weeks have been a lot of pain and effort to get everything to roll again, as he was a strong pillar of the family, taking care of my grandparents and half of the family business. Aside that, I really loved him, he cared a lot of me and my sisters. I will truly miss him and our dinners out in our favourite chenese restaurant... Damn, it has been a month since then and even now my eyes start to get humid only by writing this.
But these things happen. They are hard and painful, but are part of life itself, and they allow us to treasure the happy moments better. So I'm doing that! I'll promise to never his smile and with it on my mind I'll keep moving foward, to live a life I'll be proud to look back at the moment of its finale. To the ones going through similar experience, I know my words aren't the best, but I hope the idea will encourage you to recover the smile this events tend to snatch us.
Well, I just wanted to explain my lack of activity and I ended entering into a very delicate matter. Sorry there, it's hard to just drop a "someone very close to me died" and keep moving into another subject. ^^" Anyways. this post is to celebrate! My birthday is today and, while I'm probably spending the day working on my final assignment of the career (I already finished the exams and I'll be graduating soon, so another reason to celebrate! =D) and I probably won't get any presents today, I'm really happy to this day to have arrived. Dunno why =P Also, I'm so glad to announce that 254 people are following me! Probably most of those accounts are abandoned or don't care that much about my uploads now, but even discounting those I still have a lot of people interested on my works and being so supportive towards to my quite reiterative creations =P And I couldn't be happier than that. After all, it would be a lie to say that I didn't want to be famous, but it was never my intention. I just wanted to make friends and share my creations and ideas. And I got the three! =D It has been 7 years since I posted my first MOC, Lianyu, on Youtube and MOCpages. It has been a really enjoyable ride, and I can't wait to see how it will continue! <3
Love you SO much, dears. I'm so glad I can enjoy sharing my creations with all of you and you actually enjoy them too; so glad I can check other wonderful and inspiring creations, so glad I can make friends with all of you! Even if someday I'm suddenly gone (don't kill me already, I'm talking about many reasons in general), don't ever doubt I will treasure the support of love I got in this community. Until then, I'll do my best to deliver my own love!
Thank you very much, dears. <3
All-loving and smiling,
L.A.

While I’ve discussed my ideas about what to do going forward with flickr’s changes to free accounts on the horizon, I’ve finally come to a decision. My content from here out will now be hosted on a new blog, called My Florida Retail (not much there just yet, but please check it out, as there will be more to come soon!). As My Florida Retail gets started, I’ll start off by transferring over all the flickr content that doesn’t make the cut to stay on here once the 1,000 photo limit goes into effect. However, if you click on the link to the new blog, you can read all the details about how the new blog will work. An AFB Facebook page is still in the planning stages for those interested, although the new blog will be my primary way of sharing photos with everyone. I felt a blog was the best way for everyone to enjoy my photos without the restrictions of having to get a Facebook account, and I’m used to Blogger’s format and pickiness anyway! As I’ve said before, I’m not going to leave flickr entirely. My flickr account will remain active so I can continue to interact with all those who choose to stay on here. I will go through and trim down my flickr account to be under 1,000 photos once the deletion deadline gets closer (as I’m going to wait as long as I can to see if flickr may change their minds on something). I have an idea of what I will keep on flickr and what I won’t, although more detail on that will come early next year. For now, please remember to follow My Florida Retail or add it to your bookmarks so you can see my photos going forward. Unlike the original AFB (which for the most part has a pre-established posting schedule), My Florida Retail posts will not be following any particular posting schedule right now. With that in mind, I’ve set up My Florida Retail to where you can subscribe to get email alerts of new posts sent directly to you, so you’ll never miss a new post (how convenient!). So that’s the future of AFB on flickr. More details on a potential Facebook page and what content will stay on my flickr account will come out in the coming weeks.

Iris:

Iris:
round and coloured membrane placed in the eye, between the inner and outer cavities. It has a variable size central opening joining both cavities: the pupil.
Model: Maricarmen
Strobist info:
2 Vivitar 285HV placed 90º at each side, at eye and camera height. Cross polarization was used to avoid reflections. Nevertheless small touch-up was required in the pupil, were subtle camera reflection was present, due to the proximity of the equipment (close-up lens were used).
Flashes were shot at equal power, very low to avoid dazzling the model, so high ISO was required.

The Grand Rapids Eastern crew talks with the crew of CSX's Y597 as they figure out a game plan for their interchange. Y597 has a few cars of miscellaneous freight plus 50 empty coal gons for the GRE. It was decided that the CSX crew would first deposit the freight at the west end of Fuller yard, then pull the train of coal gons west until clear of the interchange switch. #24 would then tie on and head east. The CSX crew would actually push them a little ways east of the diamond and cut off on the fly. The only time I've ever witnessed helper service on the GRE!

I was discussing the history of New York City with novelist and historian Peter Quinn recently and he said, "I rode on the Third Avenue El as a kid, but the city I write about is largely gone...the El, Penn Station, El Morocco...even Judge Crater!"
Peter continued, "When it comes to the city, like many New Yorkers, I'm a hopeless romantic...always pining for what was. Being raised in NYC, I feel I received an enormous gift. People travel all over the world to write in exotic places. But you grow up here in the boroughs...it's like growing up in different worlds. The older I get, the more I'm struck by the drama of change that goes on around us. It's a great gift for a novelist. You don't have to search for drama...in New York...you just live it."
As much as any other song, I think New Yorkers' Jerome Kern and Ira Gershwin's "Long Ago and Far Away" from 1944 film "Cover Girl," evokes what's been lost. bit.ly/3dXHOBw

We discussed alot on saturday evening where to do our photo walk on Sunday morning. In the end we decided on Black partridge Forest Preserve. Sunday came and we arrived at the preserve, the weather was poor, everything looked very drab, but then Mark spotted some icicles in the stream and everything changed. Lesson learn it isn't so much were you decide to go to shoot, its what you find there that counts!
See some more shots of the icicles from another photographers perspective here: flickr.com/photos/9570987@N04/2239840184/

I'm going to loosen up a bit on a stupid principle of mine, always posting all photos from the same event together and chronologically here on Flickr. Following that principle I end up almost never posting some of my photos, and I can always order the photos in sets later anyway. So here's a shot from Sunday night on Roskilde Festival 2009 - and without feeling any obligation to post the rest of the festival photos before I post something else:-)...
The Green Wheel was a new attraction on the festival. A 30m tall Ferris Wheel giving you a very nice view over Orange Stage and the field in front of it.
Does Flickr display this too small on your desktop monitor? See it proper sized with Stig's Flickr Fixr!
Jena`,
I miss you so much. I miss making fun of Michael’s white pants and your ugly grandma and discussing how art makes you feel like God. But most of all, I miss laughing with you.
Zack,
I love you. I know I tell you that all the time, but its true. You are my best friend and I am so lucky to have you. And the reason I tell you all the time how much I love you is because I just want you to know that you mean so much to me, more than you’ll ever know.
Justin,
I feel like you thought of me as the friend that wouldn’t let you down- but I screwed up and I betrayed your trust. I know that you’re not sure if you trust me as much as you used to, but I just want you to know that its okay if you don't. I probably wouldn’t trust me either. I just hope that one day, you can trust me like you used to...
Courtney,
I know we’ve grown apart in the past few years but I think that things are starting to get better, and I’m very happy for that.
Kayla,
you are so loud and random, you’re hilarious and you’re a tad obnoxious but I just love you. You are awesome.
To the girl that I met camping when I was 7,
I don’t remember anything about you, except for that photo I found of you and I. but I think we would’ve been good friends.

When we were discussing options for this year's autumn hiking adventure, it almost seemed like there was nothing left in northern Scandinavia that we all still wanted to explore. However, after some discussions, we realized that Finnish Lapland might be an interesting and convenient location for our regular autumn outdoor pursuits.
After conducting some research and planning, we narrowed our focus to Finland's northwest, bordering Sweden and Norway. More specifically, we honed in on the Käsivarsi Wilderness Area, which happens to be the second-largest wilderness area in Finland.
-----
Käsivarsi is somewhat atypical for Finland due to its higher elevation (Finland's highest peak, Halti (1,324m), is located in its northern tip), rugged terrain, and limited wooded areas. This combination sounded particularly attractive to us because it meant we would hike across various types of landscapes, both on and off marked trails.
Our itinerary was as follows: Kilpisjärvi/Saana mountain -> Tshahkaljärvi lake -> Siktagurajohka river -> Meekonjärvi lake including trip to Pitsusköngäs waterfall -> Porojärvi lake including ascent of Saivaara cliff -> Guhturgurajávri/Termisjärvi lakes -> Ailakkajärvi lake -> Kilpisjärvi.
