My sister Deanne Coles-Christensen is a gifted decorator. I helped her shoot these photos of her incredible home in Santa Fe that she’s sadly leaving after ten years. She's moving to Salt Lake City this week.
Deanne’s philosophy as an interior designer is to use her clients’ existing objects — those items with personal history and meaning — rather than purchase a bunch of new stuff. Rice is almost non-existent in Tbilisi- I was really missing rice and it was only on the third day that I even managed to catch the local vernacular for rice- brinji. Well, once I knew that, I was able to find brinji in a local cafe but with great difficulty. This rather upmarket restaurant didn't have it though! Bread is the way to go in Georgia. Khachapuri (the cheese filled bread- see previous pictures in the album as well as the next picture) is of course ubiquitous, but if you are ordering a full meal, you also get a terrific 'tandoori' bread like the one seen here. It's super tasty, especially when piping hot, and usually has an elongated shape like seen here, Too bad I polished off half of one of the breads before it came to my head to photograph it! Probably that's what happens when you finally sit down to lunch at 16:30! (Tbilisi, Georgia, Sept. 2016)

The other corner of the living room. I really liked the fact that this place still had all the original shutters, though I was less keen on the typical 1970s enormous light shade from Habitat. (It was the land-lord's choice, not mine, I hasten to add.)

An extending dining table, made for my mother. It is made from British beech and utilises the 'flip-top' mechanism of expansion; where the two outer leaves slide away to reveal the central leaf, which unfolds from below.

Lunch For Two.
For our 29th wedding anniversary I took my wife to the Colne Valley Railway for lunch in one of their Pullman cars. This was our table. The train trundled up and down a short track and 5mph whlst we enjoyed a super meal. Recommended!

This modern take on a mid-century style table can be used as a metre square elm-topped table or extended to two larger sizes to seat up to ten people.
With a single lacquered leaf insert the table becomes 1m x 1.5 m. With two inserts it reaches two metres long.
