LJ having fun with her own reflection in our water feature.

Reminded me of the poem Ding Dong Dell.

Ding dong bell, Pussy's at the well.

Who took her there? Little Johnny Hare.

Who'll bring her in? Little Tommy Thin.

What a jolly boy was that To get some milk for pussy cat,

Who ne'er did any harm, But played with the mice in his father's barn.

And the older version less pc version.

Ding dong bell

Pussy's in the well

Who put her in?

Little Johnny Flynn

Who pulled her out?

Little Tommy Stout

What a naughty boy was that

Try to drown poor Pussycat,

Who ne'er did any harm

But killed all the mice

In the Farmer's barn!

Ding, dong, bell,

Pussy’s in the well.

How can you tell,

By the bleedin' awful smell.

Who pulled him out?

Little Tommy Trout.

Then he had a sniff and he threw him back again.

Down went the rope,

Down went the bucket,

Down went the cat,

And he shouted ........ it.

Words: Richard Digence

Ding, dong, bell,

Pussy's in the well.

Who put her in?

Little Johnny Green.

Who pulled her out?

Little Tommy Stout.

What a naughty boy was that,

To try to drown poor pussy cat,

Who never did him any harm,

And killed the mice in his father's barn.

I always find it a little perturbing to walk over the 1/2 inch sheet of glass that covers this in the hallway, especially when hungover.

Anyhows, I had my camera with me and balancing it face down and leaving it on timer with low ISO allowed me to capture the murky depths. (Illuminated by a torch rather than my flash, which is broken.)

Children's English nursery rhyme from about the C16th.

Never got credit for pulling Pussy Cat out of the well. But everyone remembers Little Johnny Flynn.

Ding dong bell, pussy's in the well... you know, a rhyme about someone trying to drown a cat is a strange thing to have in this gentle little park, if you think about it too much.
