Digital deception
Il digitale comincia a stufarmi; ho scattato la foto qua sopra su pellicola, per la precisione su fuji velvia 50. L'ho scansionata con uno scanner più che decente, ho corretto colori, saturazione, gamma, contrasto, ecc. ecc. per farla sembrare il più simile possibile all'originale. Peccato che sia impossibile; per quanto possa impegnarmi, il contrasto, la gamma dinamica, la brillantezza dei colori, la tridimensionalità che ha la diapo originale vista sul piano luminoso o proiettata sul telo è mille volte superiore. Non sto esagerando. Non c'è semplicemente paragone. E i colori? Beh, faccio in modo che siano simili alla diapo sul mio vecchio monitor CRT, poi sposto l'immagine sul nuovo LCD del portatile e sono completamente diversi (peggiori, troppo blu e verde e poco rosso). E sui vostri monitor saranno ancora più diversi. E' una battaglia persa in partenza. Possibile che dopo vent'anni di miglioramento tecnologico tutti i monitor rappresentino i colori diversamente e sempre peggio man mano che si va avanti?
Che pacco il digitale.
Digital is starting to get on my nerves; I shot the pic above on film, to be exact on fuji velvia 50. I scanned it with a very decent scanner, I corrected the colors, saturation, gamma, contrast, etc, to match as closely as possible the original slide. Unfortunately it is not possible; no matter how hard I try, the contrast, the dynamic range, the brilliance of the colors, the tridimensionality that the original slide conveys when seen on the light table or projected on the silver screen is one thousand times better. I'm not exaggerating. There's simply no match. And what about the colors? Well, I tried to match what I saw on the slide with what I saw on my old CRT monitor, then I moved the image over to the new LCD of my notebook and they are completely different (worse, in fact, too much green and blue and not enough red). And they'll be even more different on your monitors. It's a lost cause. Is this the end result of twenty years of technological advance? That every single monitor renders colors differently and progressively worse as time goes by?
What a letdown digital is.

Digitale Welten 2019 workshops took place from the 1.-4. of October 2019 at the Mousonturm. The exhibition of the results was opened on the 4th and ran until the 8th of October. Workshop hosts were Kati Hyyppä, Nadja Buttendorf, Gloria Schulz and Christopher Weimann.
