Have not done an epic PS project in a while. this one will print out at 55 x 22 inches. I uploaded a large original so you can see more of it. Flickr is not the place really to show something like this off.
large version:
I follow the water
Moving but not moving
Time Dissolves space
Through Feral Gardens Drifting
Down to the sea
for this one you should really View On Black
An alternate version of an image poste earlier. This is actually a scan of a print on rice paper that has been mounted on maple panel. The sun is acrylic paint added over the top.
This is a detail that shows where the figure was layered into the painting. the biggest challenge was giving the figure a texture to match the painting without breaking up the image too much.
I uploaded a fairly large version you can scroll around on to see the detail
i had photographed the man.
just like this.
but instead of a bird, there had only been some folded papers.
they were blank.
he didn’t read them. he just looked at them.
maybe he was thinking about what they could say.
i wanted to replace the paper with a bird.
that was the idea.
i opened the file, described the scene, and told the ai to change only that.
a gull, not a page.
but chatgpt-4o didn’t listen.
instead of a modified photo, it gave me this.
a new image.
a new light.
a man who looked like the first man, but wasn’t him.
and a bird that wasn’t mine.
the picture i wanted was lost.
but the one i got is better.
The first of series I'm working on inspired by hidden places, secret gardens and certain sacred flowers
I did these architectual studies after the european trip of 97.
My plan is to do 13 building in exactly the same format pulling from all over the globe, all cultures. Especially dreaming of japanese castles treated n this manner. Here I am 10 years later and still only have two done! That's okay. I'm accepting of long term projects. Temple of the Earth is from a church in Orvieto italy, and feels very italian to me (though the river is a tributary to the merced in Yosimite, called Illouette creek) and was the result of arduous hike and adventure referred to in cool cool waters. Finding the right angle and light to match the church was more difficlult than I thought it would be ) This is the 'back door' to the church by the way, The front was under restoriation and covered with scaffolding, so I can only imagine how marvelous it must look.
When the 13nth hour chimes
And the Novice cries out in the night
Like a bird dying of joy
And all the princes wonder
Why their lives bleed away in dreary boredom
Walk under the moon my friend
Drink of the Silver fever
Dripping near the Magdalene Asylum
Seek her song in shimmering forest glades
Made Dark by cloistered secrets
Fear not, the flight of inky satin beyond the branches
Shapes shift between those smoky veils
Whispering the forms beneath
Dancing gentle like the flames
In candles held sweetly from the draft
Look if you dare
Into the deep ocean eyes
So full of innocent wonder
And the most profane gratitude
Look if you dare

Final state? The Desert Rose print is now part of a rather large Assemblage that was inspired by the form factor of a grandfather clock. It is a little over six feet tall ( two meters) The rocks in this piece come from the same landscape of desert in the print
This image is part of another creative-explosion-of-branching-versions that always seem be given to me. It all started with these images of a rusty wall in the little town of Anacortes Washington: www.flickr.com/photos/colvinart/sets/72157601331403286/
The ruins on the left are part of a hotel in Orvieto which claims to be one of the oldest hotels in Europe. The cardinals used to travel up for vacation from rome. This during a time when the church was rather hmmm frisky and corrupt. Hence the ghosts. Having stayed there for two nights I think its probably haunted.
At one point I was going to make a japanese folding screen with Sun Mountain. I made slight design changes and came up with three panels. I'm struck now with how well they work as single images all by them selves

So here is the altenate version I mentioned. Its become quite large! 33 inches by 60! Not sure what its about yet...something to do with a lot of history and legacy of a place.

Another multi neg stitch up here, taken at Ruby Beach in Olympic national park, the water in the foreground is from the Merced river in Yosimite Valley. I have an extensive discussion of how I made this image at

From time to time she would dissapear
I hoped that she wandered into the forest of her dreams
Where the random choir of bird song
and soft breezes sighing in the tree tops
Quenchd the thirst in her heart
Returned the balance to her soul
Alternate Composition to the other one. I'm leaning towards this one, but after a year of contemplation, I still don't know. Welcome to my brain. This piece was completely reconstructed for Atlas Dei
A little Mojo to counter the dark days ahead.
this is a Digital Alchemy Piece I did a while ago. It prints out about 4 feet wide on aged or washi paper. I've added a paper texture here so you can get a sense of how the print looks. This project gestated when I went out into our wildflower garden one night with the strobe and soft box. All the pictures came back fairly cool, but they were strangely cold but vibrant on jet black or very dark backgrounds. I realized I could inverse the tonal range and have flowers isolated on a light ground. Weeks later I ended up with a piece I was happy with.
I've uploaded a fairly large copy so you can zoom around on it
