Darren is what people would call an army brat. His father is a lieutenant Colonel in the army and since his mother had divorced his father when he was young and had no time to have him live with her, he began moving from army base to army base, not staying in one place long enough to make friends.
At the age of 19, he was able to leave the army brat life behind and found a small 1 bedroom apartment of his own and began his new life in Neo Tokyo, Japan.
Starting a new life, he found, was hard. He had little experience with life outside of moving from base to base. His knowledge of music was also very limited but eventually, he learned to like Japanese songs, even though he couldn't understand what the singers sung. Darren came to live by the rule, “just because I can't understand the words, doesn't make it enjoyable. It's fun to imagine what the song is about just by listening to the emotion of the song and the way it is being sung”.
Darren believes that every thing has a voice and if you listen carefully, you may be able to hear it. It was when he met his boss, Marina, a Japanese idol singer to whom he now works as her body guard, did he truly learn the real power of songs.
Darren has a condition called Synaesthesia where his mind tends to perceive sounds and music as colours. At first, he found it annoying but as he grew up, he learnt to cope with it. In the end, he began to find it beautiful but he'd rather keep it to himself. Even keeping it from his digimon partner, Elfinmon and Marina, the girl he bodyguards and who he begins to fall for.

Elfinmon is a mischievous and cheeky little swamp dwelling digimon who loves to cause friendly havoc with his friends by pouncing on them. This is usually followed by looping toy jewellery he has made around them, giggling childishly.
All Elfinmon's are childish at heart but they know how to pick their fights. They are capable of walking on their hind legs, much like Dorumon, and using their wings, they are able to fly. Agile and rather swift, they are able to dodge most attacks. Their wings also allow them to swim. They are lung preservers and can hold their breath for more than 10 minutes and they have keen eyesight that allows them to see under water, even in swamp water. Their green fur camouflages them in their swampy habitat and keeps them hidden when swimming in the murky swamp water.
Elfinmon has two moves at his disposal. The first one, is “Swamp Mist”. He takes a deep breath and exhales a thick mist that blinds all without his keen eyesight.
Move number two, is “Elven Vines”. The crystal on his forehead glows which allows him to control vines and other thick swamp like foliage to attack and bind his opponents.

Digimon Tamers (デジモンテイマーズ, Dejimon Teimāzu) is the third anime television series in the Digimon franchise, produced by Toei Animation. The series takes place in a new setting separate from the preceding series, Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02, where the characters utilize cards from the collectible card games. The series aired in Japan from April 1, 2001 to March 31, 2002.
An English-language version, produced by Saban Entertainment, aired in North America from September 1, 2001 to June 8, 2002 as the third season of Digimon: Digital Monsters.A manga adaptation of the series, by Yuen Wong Yu, was serialized from April to October 2004.
