This patch of crocuses outside my mother's front door is always the earliest to bloom each year. I put my camera on the ground to get this shot, but thought I'd get a better one in a day or two when they were opened more. Unfortunately, the next day they were gone; nothing left but crushed leaves and scattered yellow petals. Now that tiny stray twig looks like a fence to me. -- March 18, 2022

New Jersey’s fifteen-mile-long Rahway Valley was another short line that took advantage of the ICC incentive per diem boxcar rates of the late 1970’s. By the mid-1980’s, the rules were again changed, and many of the IPD owners were stuck with cars that were not being used. For some reason, the Lake Erie Franklin & Clarion picked up some of the RV cars, patched them, and put them in service, as seen here at East Penn Junction, Pennsylvania.

Still one of my favorite scenes from Olympic National Park. I have returned to this location several times since, but the scene has changed irrevocably, and for the worst from an aesthetic standpoint. Therein lies an important life lesson for all of us - just as photography captures a moment in time, there are times in life when we need to seize the moment.

Carpe Diem: Sometimes it’s best to just stop and enjoy the moment. In our pursuit of beautiful photos we often get distracted with the chase itself, and them after we are there we get caught up in the technicalities of capturing the photograph. You you ever just stop and enjoy the scene or night sky? Some of my most enjoyable moments at night are when a few clouds roll in and I just lay down and watch the sky waiting for them to pass. The quiet solitude and beautiful sky are like a magic tonic erasing the cares of the day. Carpe Diem!

Omdat het weer redelijk aan het opklaren was toch maar even naar Diemen gegaan voor trein 48575. Meerdere malen per week pendelen deze trein tussen Zeebrugge en Osnabrück voor de firma Daimler.
Met de 189 025 op kop slingert de (lege) trein bestaande uit een lange sleep Hccrrs'n van de fly-over af, terwijl net de zon weer achter de wolken vandaan komt

I am a great believer in carpe diem, although I am not always a good practitioner of the philosophy. This year I put my garden to bed early . . . the weather suggested I could have left it a month later, but hey, I was in the mood and cut things back, planted my bulbs and made ready for winter. And with family things and a new shower room going on here, I have been pleased to have been perspicacious in this instance . . today I spent a happy half hour pottering, knowing that I was just tweaking - and just enjoying myself. I found three skeleton leaves and placed them on a stone slab . . . and fetched my camera
Max and Jane came over for a meal this evening. Decisions were made about the way forward - Max is not leaving his flat on 30th as the Council have advised him that if he makes himself homeless voluntarily they will be unable to help him. So he will continue to look for a flat and if he doesn't find one will wait for the landlord to take him to court, bring in the bailiffs and evict him - then he may receive help from the Council. Desperate measures for desperate times.
Off to east London tomorrow . . .
