Cover photo of Dick Purcell. This magazine-sized booklet printed on heavy stock contains a chapter from the mammoth book "Valley of the Cliffhangers" by Jack Mathis, a privately printed hardcover that contains info on every serial produced by Republic Pictures. When you can find a copy of the book (and its supplement), it generally goes for around $2,000.

LEFT: In the Captain America serial, Grant Gardner D.A. was the official secret identity.

CENTER: Tom Tyler's Captain Marvel, which also doubled as a Kryptonian Elder's tunic in The Adventures of Superman "Superman On Earth" episode.

RIGHT: Kane Richmand's Spy Smasher costume all in the 'rich' hues of navy, gray and ochre. Black & White never looked so good

Purists know this would be the era of The Justice SOCIETY of America, but I throw myself upon the altar of artistic license.

Maybe the studios could borrow the mask from "The Crimson Ghost" so they can use Red Skull for this serial...

- 1944. Captain America, aka Steve Rogers, played by Dick Purcell. He stands for freedom, justice, and the American way. He screams Star spangled Banner. He is the American identity. #CaptainAmerica #SteveRogers #Marvel #DickPurcell #MarvelComics #MarvelUniverse
