Stumbled out of the house with with some paint and no plans (big surprise). Rolled out a spot, taking my time. As soon as i start putting up my outline, I notice the sun is quickly headed towards some nearby trees, which would cover the wall in un-flickable shadows... since i was at a wall where pieces dont run, the clock was ticking. Had to blast through this in 2 hours flat, start to finish... all fat caps. Would have liked a bit more time, but at least I beat the shadow which you can just see starting to creep in on the left side. 15 minutes later it was covering over half the wall. It was like leonardo Dicaprio jumping on the Titanic just in the nick of time to have it sink.

I was taking pictures of this amazing sky over a fence that was covered in vines when I spotted this fellow... the first thing that popped into my mind was Leonardo DiCaprio standing at the front of Titanic shouting "I'm the King of the World!!!!!!!"

In The Belly of a Bear - Calgary artists Caitlind r.c. Brown, Wayne Garrett and Lane Shordee were the masterminds behind the dome with an interior lined in thick, warm fur. The sphere’s dark look comes from slightly torching the surface layer of its wooden exterior, which also weatherproofs it. The installation was one of the most popular with visitors, perhaps put in mind of Leonard DiCaprio's Revenant character, who sleeps inside a horse’s belly for warmth.

The E.tee is back! This time played by splendid aliens. The typhoon Kirko (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) tosses the city of Not York into panic but then picks it up. The aliens follow Kirko until they get distracted by a 100 thousand Gb carousel. They launch a black hole onto Kirko so they can play peacefully. The prophecy of the famous astrologer Albert E. became true, Kirko disappears! The city of Not York (played by Denzel Washington, already an Oscar winner for the leading role as the city of Myami) celebrates the event with popcorn and hamburgers.

Inception is a 2010 science fiction film written, co-produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan, and co-produced by Emma Thomas. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a professional thief who steals information by infiltrating the subconscious, and is offered a chance to have his criminal history erased as payment for a seemingly impossible task: "inception", the implantation of another person's idea into a target's subconscious.[4] The ensemble cast additionally includes Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Dileep Rao, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, and Michael Caine.

After the 2002 completion of Insomnia, Nolan presented to Warner Bros. a written 80-page treatment about a horror film envisioning "dream stealers" based on lucid dreaming.[5] Deciding he needed more experience before tackling a production of this magnitude and complexity, Nolan retired the project and instead worked on 2005's Batman Begins, 2006's The Prestige, and The Dark Knight in 2008.[6] The treatment was revised over 6 months and was purchased by Warner in February 2009.[7] Inception was filmed in six countries, beginning in Tokyo on June 19 and ending in Canada on November 22.[8] Its official budget was US$160 million, split between Warner Bros and Legendary.[9] Nolan's reputation and success with The Dark Knight helped secure the film's $100 million in advertising expenditure.

Inception's première was held in London on July 8, 2010; its wide release to both conventional and IMAX theaters began on July 16, 2010.[10][11] A box office success, Inception grossed over $800 million worldwide.[3] The home video market also had strong results, with $68 million in DVD and Blu-ray sales. Inception opened to acclaim from critics, who praised its story, score, and ensemble cast.[12] It won four Academy Awards for Best Cinematography, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects, and was nominated for four more: Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Art Direction, and Best Original Score

explore #315

Signing autographs at the Bafta awards.

On one of the walls of one of the buildings at CineCitta are a lot of images from films made there, one of which was Gangs of New York directed by Martin Scorsese.

I love Gangs Of New York. I think it is far greater than its reputation.

I love the world Scorsese recreates, & the rich history he explores. All these gangs & criminal activies, the corruption make these huge sets all feel lived in & alive.

The revenge story, I think is far more nuanced & complex than something like Gladiator, which is paper thin cliche stuff we've seen dozens of times (it is an enjoyable film, but all the same things internet "experts" rag Avatar for can be applied to Gladiator), & Amsterdam's inner conflict about being loyal to his father & his feelings for Bill The Butcher is fascinating to me.

Leo & Cameron get a lot of unfair flack for not having thick Irish accents, but their characters are not Irish immigrants. They are Irish Americans. It is hinted by dialogue that Amsterdam lost his accent in the asylum at Hell's Gate (the young Amsterdam at the beginning doesn't have a thick Irish accent either), & during Jenny's dialogue about how she came close to the Butcher, it is probable that she was either very very young as a child when she came to America, or was born to Irish parents that moved to America. They are both fine in their roles.

Everyone gets so focused on Daniel Day-Lewis's amazing performance as Bill The Butcher that people think Leo & Cameron are supposed to have thick accents as well.

I think the film is vastly misunderstood, & the erroneous "bad accents" issue is one of them.

As amazing as Daniel Day-Lewis is, there are still so much things to admire in the film.

Dante Ferretti's large scale sets built at CineCitta Studios in Rome look & feel lived in. There are so many details that add to that (like the wagon dispensing a treatment for cholera), & Michael Ballhaus's cinematography is simply beautiful.

The browns & the yellowish colour tint really make it feel the period, & the textures of details help add to the immersion (like all these closeups of bill posters & newspapers).

I think people misunderstand the point of the ending with the end battle being disrupted by the response to the draft riots.

Scorsese was exploring how these characters are stuck in their own world & rivalry, while the rest of the city, & America, were progressing. The changes New York was going through caught up into this area where Bill The Butcher & Amsterdam were feuding in, & when the cannon fire ends the battle before it could begin, it didn't matter which side they were on, nor did their feud matter.

Amsterdam's desire to avenge his father's death, & Bill's desire to take out his nemesis's son didn't matter. New York was changing whether they liked it or not.

That is one of the key reasons for Bill's final line in the film (which was a paraphrasing of what the real person that inspired his character said on his death bed).

The ending montage of New York's skyline changing over the decades, as the graves of Bill The Butcher & Priest Vallon decay & eventually disappear is one of the most moving endings in a Scorsese film.

Something else I find moving about the ending is while the graves of Bill The Butcher & Priest Vallon just decay, I think about some of these other characters throughout the film (like McGloin, Shang, Johnny, Happy Jack etc), who probably didn't get graves like Bill or Vallon, & they are also forgotten to time.

Gangs of New York is my fourth favourite Scorsese behind Goodfellas, Raging Bull & Taxi Driver.

I am in the minority, but The Departed & The Wolf of Wall Street, while very good, I don't think are among his best, which they usually considered to be.

I think Gangs of New York is vastly greater than those films, but I think even a "weaker" Scorsese film like New York New York are still fairly decent.

Scorsese is one of the most consistent directors. Gangs of New York was also the first of three of his films to get 10 Oscar nominations & lose in every category, with The Irishman & Killers of the Flower Moon also losing in all 10 nominations.

One of the unexpected benefits of our trip to the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve was going through the town of Pawhuska. You probably are asking what is so special about Pawhuska. I did. Well, right now the downtown area has been converted into a movie set for the movie, "Killers of the Flower Moon". They weren't shooting when we were in the area, but it would've been cool to see Leonardo DiCaprio or Robert De Niro on the set.

The film crew took over the downtown area and completely did a make over to the store fronts. Some were just repainted and props were put into the windows. Other business were given a new front like you see in this picture. The equipment on the sidewalk was a set of lights for the filming. I've always been a huge movie buff and this is the first time I've seen a movie location like this one.

The movie is based on a true murder that happened in this community around 100 years ago. I thought it was pretty cool that they actually shot the movie on location where the events really occurred. I know I'm going to watch this one when it comes to theaters.

thanks June.Fallon for creating this amazing pose for us. I hope that if you do fall off the boat you don't end up like DiCaprio in Titanic 😂

Marta asked his body guard if she could get a picture with him and they said no, because he was with family. I couldn't help taking at least one inconspicuous shot. He was wearing sunglasses and had some facial hair. I almost didn't recognize him, but I heard him talking and it was definitely him.

Academy Award®- winning actor and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio visited NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland on Saturday, April 23, 2016.

During his visit, Mr. DiCaprio interviewed Dr. Piers Sellers, an Earth scientist, former astronaut and current deputy director of Goddard’s Sciences and Exploration Directorate. The two discussed the different missions NASA has underway to study changes in the Earth’s atmosphere, water and land masses for a climate change documentary that Mr. DiCaprio has in production.

Using a wall-size, high-definition display system that shows visual representations based on actual science data, Mr. DiCaprio and Dr. Sellers discussed data results from NASA’s fleet of satellites in Earth’s orbit.

During his visit, Mr. DiCaprio also visited the facility holding NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope that is being developed as a large infrared telescope with a 6.5-meter primary mirror. The telescope will be launched on an Ariane 5 rocket from French Guiana in October of 2018, and will be a premier observatory of the next decade, serving thousands of astronomers worldwide.

Since 2002 the Municipality of Cannes has been developing an extensive programme of giant murals. I love Gangs of New York. I think it is a pretty undervalued Scorsese film, & the story has a lot more nuance & depth than is given credit for. I like it a hell of a lot more than the likes of The Departed & The Wolf of Wall Street which are pretty good (it took me years to be able to appreciate them, as I wasn't a fan initially), but not among his best.
