My luck on this trip had been classified as poor as far as photography goes , but my campground luck was still with me. I had made no prior reservations to camp here as this campground(North Rim)is always booked a year in advance. When I arrived I went straight to campground registration. The ranger said that the only site available was a triple Group site at 60 bucks a night. After some time I finally convinced him to split the site up so that 2 other people that showed up would also have a place to stay. He agreed and I spent the night there in the campground. After 5 days of intense cloud coverage I was convinced that I would get shut out again But, Despite the cloud cover I again arrived on location hoping for a break in the clouds. After setting up at the rim and firing up every light source I had with me, it still wasn't enough to light the far side of the canyon, so I decided to include the railing on the observation deck into my comp so that I would have at least something in the foreground. I even considered a selfie up on the rail like dicaprio on the deck of the titanic, but after looking over the edge at the 1000 ft drop I decided against it. So while I was sitting on the steps waiting, I dozed off for a couple of minutes and woke to find the clouds had dissipated and the Milky Way lined right up with the observation deck here at Bright Angel Point. This is the first night of the past five that I had even seen a star. So I'm considering this to be a total luck shot. :) I think that the light from the distant city makes it look like the Milky Way is being projected from there.

Although not Leonardo DiCaprio on a steamship doomed to sink, this seal is no less elegantly sunbathing here in the evening light at Sylter’s elbow.

A few months ago:

I was thinking of the movie "The Beach" when I was standing on this beach in Oregon.

Mostly the ending scene:

(Leonardo DiCaprio) aka Richard (voice-over):

"I still believe in paradise. But now at least I know it's not someplace you can look for, 'cause it's not where you go. It's how you feel for a moment in your life when you're a part of something, and if you find that moment... it lasts forever..."

Upper Kananaskis Lake in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, Alberta is a man-made reservoir for hydro-electric power and irrigation. The Kananaskis Country is full of grand scenery like this. The area was used as backdrop for the Leonardo DiCaprio picture "The Revenant".

Maya Bay is a stunning bay surrounded by towering limestone cliffs on the Thai island of Phi Phi Leh, made famous by the movie The Beach starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Due to its popularity, it was temporarily closed to mass tourism to protect the fragile ecosystem, especially the coral reefs.

This is a classic view of Maya Bay, made famous by the movie 'The Beach' starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Controversy arose during the making of the film due to 20th Century Fox's bulldozing and landscaping of the natural beach setting of Ko Phi Phi Leh to make it more "paradise-like". The production altered some sand dunes and cleared some coconut trees and grass to widen the beach. Fox set aside a fund to reconstruct and return the beach to its natural state; however, lawsuits were filed by environmentalists who believed the damage to the ecosystem was permanent and restoration attempts had failed. The lawsuits dragged on for years and in 2006 Thailand's Supreme Court upheld a ruling that the filming had harmed the environment and ordered that damage assessments be made. Defendants in the case included 20th Century Fox and some Thai government officials.

The insanely picturesque bay is now protected as a National Park.

By the way, the Flickr map is not quite right in terms of naming!

It may have been a while ago, but I fondly remember that somewhat stormy, yet all the more beautiful, day in October. My wife and I love spending these autumn days in our lovely country, because the landscapes couldn't be more beautiful. The sunlight is usually quite special, and the colors are magnificent. If you're lucky, you stumble upon such light and can capture it with your camera, as I have done here. We are truly fortunate to have such idyllic landscapes so close to home. Hiking through such places brings so much joy and happiness !!!

Note: On the right side of the picture, you can see cows lying in the meadow peacefully, enjoying the last rays of sunshine. I only noticed this on second glance at the time.

Maya Bay is located on the island of Phi Phi Ley and is world-famous for its crescent-shaped beach surrounded by towering limestone cliffs up to 100 meters high. The bay gained global recognition as the filming location of The Beach starring Leonardo DiCaprio. After being closed for several years to protect its fragile ecosystem, access is now strictly regulated to ensure sustainable tourism.

Thank you for your visit!

Much of the seasonal ice has melted and our winter offers a momentary concession in temperature. In fact, that strong angular line at the top of the image is the line of clouds as they arch across the sky. This is due to a Chinook which is a warm, high pressure wind that comes in off the Rocky mountains.

You may have heard of it in the last two years when Leonardo Dicaprio came to Banff and said he had seen global warming first hand. In fact he had seen the effect of a warm wind on the cold snow as it quickly melted. This is the danger of people with famous names in film who know little about the facts of nature.

Look out DiCaprio, you can hire me for the next Beach movie - I just need to love to dip my fur first......

This is the area or cliff zone from the top of which Leonardo DiCaprio- the hero of the 1999 Hollywood movie The Beach dived into the Andaman Sea. I am on a long-tail boat on the Phi Phi Islands tour and this is the first stop at the Maya Bay where the said movie was filmed

Clear turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea at Pi Leh Bay which is close to Maya Bay in the Phi Phi islands cluster. Sadly, these waters and the general marine environment here are at great risk due to over tourism- in fact thanks to over tourism, the beaches at Maya Bay were closed to tourists till 2021,

______________________________________________

Often considered to be carnivores that devour sheep, bears are much more peaceful animals than we think. Whether they are white or brown, we must now learn to share certain territories with them, the only way to effectively protect landscapes, herds and wild animals...

With the bear, there are dangerous encounters, such as that of Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant facing a not exactly friendly beast.

There are also confrontations that go better, like when Goldilocks (admittedly a little worried) wakes up facing the three brown bears.

During his life as an adventurer, which began around thirty years ago, Rémy Marion also experienced, with bears of all kinds, face-to-face encounters that were successively risky, peaceful, indifferent, fraternal, or distant. .

The documentarian echoes this in his latest book, l'Ours: l'autre de l'homme (Actes Sud, 2018) where he reviews the relationships that unite humans and beasts in a large number of cultures all around of the globe.

Because if today we perceive the bear as an animal that can only be visited in its stuffed form, history reminds us that we have more than one thing in common with the plantigrade !

Many of you know for sure the great SF „Inception“ from 2010. Leonardo DiCaprio uses a spinning top to check in which reality he is in. This little guy here from my junk drawer remembers me to this excellent movie.

Maya Bay is a stunningly beautiful bay that's sheltered by 100-metre high cliffs on three sides. Inside the bay there are several beaches, most are small and some only exist at low tide. The main one is around 200 metres long with silky soft white sand, underwater colourful coral and exotic fish in exceptionally clear water; the whole bay is one big reef.

Maya Bay has become the main tourist attraction of Phi Phi since The Beach was filmed here in 1999. It was always very popular before the film but now people around the world who haven't even heard of Phi Phi have certainly heard of Maya Bay.

Or, as DiCaprio and Iñárritu would probably call it "Opportunity Knocking."

If you live in Newfoundland and don't like snow ... especially when Spring started over a month ago ... and the fly fishing season is only a month away, look on the bright side: The possibility of dying of heat stoke here is very remote; you can make a snowman in April if you choose; if it continues for a few more days, medicinal benefits could accrue to many ... Why? Well, according to folklore, May snow is supposed to be good for sore eyes; and, best of all, if DiCaprio and Iñárritu are ever making a winter movie in Alberta again and a Chinook blows in and melts all their snow, they won't have to lug all their equipment way down to the tip of South America because they think catastrophic Global Warming has befallen them ... they can just move east to Newfoundland. Western Newfoundland, that is. And, let me tell you, we have the scenery here to go with the snow, too!

Yep, took this a couple of hours ago. Global warming? Don't make me laugh! Just give me the proof. And not that cooked up data that those English scientists were providing for years.

Incomparable Duesenberg SJ DC Phaeton. In your face paint scheme Leonardo DiCaprio would approve of. Very fast in it's day, especially for a very heavy, BIG car. The iconic pipes are wonderful! The details are wonderful seen BIG on this crop abstract with wonderful patterns, colors and curves. The reflections in the fender are nice.

In The Belly of a Bear - Calgary artists Caitlind r.c. Brown, Wayne Garrett and Lane Shordee were the masterminds behind the dome with an interior lined in thick, warm fur. The sphere’s dark look comes from slightly torching the surface layer of its wooden exterior, which also weatherproofs it. The installation was one of the most popular with visitors, perhaps put in mind of Leonard DiCaprio's Revenant character, who sleeps inside a horse’s belly for warmth.

The Minions of Dr. Gru (sort of like Willie Wonka's Oompa Loompas) in the animation film Despicable Me.. These cute, yellow, capsule-shaped guys were the real stars of the film and you couldn't help but get amused with their giggles and cackles and undecipherable language.

And here's one video to make a point . And another one.

Yes, went to see two movies yesterday. First was Leonardo DiCaprio's "Inception" which I can sum up with a few words: "It's the new Matrix!" and the other one was "Despicable Me." We just came from a breakfast- meet with some flickr friends and I had my camera in my bag. A few shots only. Can't help it.

Paris Hilton, Friends, Hollywood Celebrities Open Marquee The Star, Sydney, Australia

Australian entertainment and nightclub fans, and all you celebrity watchers out there... It's time for yet another showbiz update.

The Star's new nightclub Marquee in "Sin City" Sydney, Australia tonight held their grand opening last night and the ultimate party girl herself - Paris Hilton, along with boyfriend DJ Afrojack, and a bush tucker bag of friends and associates including Ashlee Simpson, Nick Lachey, Kellan Lutz, Abbie Cornish and LMFAO's Redfoo helped get the party started on the red (purple) carpet. By the way, the colour purple is supposed to attract money we understand, and it was working for Ms Hilton.

The gamble to sign up Paris and friends appears to have paid off, as far as attracting international headlines, but only time will tell what it does to the bottom line of The Star (once known as Star City Casino).

The Australian contingent of celebs who attended included Laura Dundovic, Alex Dimitriades, Glenn and Sara McGrath, Alex Perry, Nikki Phillips, Didier Cohen, April Rose Pengilly, Tim Commandeur, Laura Cstortan and Chris Joannou.

Marquee is understood to have snatched big dollars tonight, along with some positive press, but upping the ante in star power. Just how much it cost The Star to bring in Ms Hilton is anyone's guess but a well known media agency in Sydney estimated "between $50,000 to $150,000 for Ms Hilton and friends", but don't ever expect to find out the real figure as agents and legal eagles will be guarding that information from falling into the media and public domain.

The official VIP launch party featured DJ sets from The Black Eye Peas, will.i.am and Afrojack, with boat loads of celebs.

The 20,000 square foot nightclub occupies the entire top tier of The Star’s new Pirrama Road harbour side entrance. It enjoys a 1,200 people capacity and is aiming to fill up the venue with the right sort of customers. It's understood that there's three separate spaces within the one venue, and there was something for everyone's mood and taste.

The Main Room sports a 30-foot projection stage with an LED DJ booth and two funky dance floors, while another section entitled 'Boom Box' has an outdoor patio and DJ booth. For those guests who are looking for a bit more intimacy... and we know your out there boys and girls, there's a "library-style" lounge room along with fireplace, where you might want to get all cosy with your best friends.

The new sexy nightclub is a joint effort between The Star and Tao Group, which operates very successful nightclubs in the United States including LAVO in New York and Las Vegas, TAO Las Vegas and Marquee Nightclub and Dayclub at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

We think its a pretty safe bet that you and yours will have fun (and spend a few dollars) at The Star's Marquee, so why not give them a go and tell us all about your experience.

It's all just another move in the Australian casino and entertainment wars, with a good dash of tourism biz factored in, and hopefully the public and Sydney benefit.

Competitor of sorts, Crown Limited, is following the progress of Sydney based 'The Star' closely, and the two gaming companies fight for the entertainment and gambling dollar, with big name celebs and casino "whales" being the most sought after patrons.

The Star will no doubt be hosting more celeb filled parties, but its unclear when Ms Hilton is returning to party (and pick up another payday). No word yet if she's got a whole floor to herself to sleep in and party (like Leonardo DiCaprio did on his previous down under Australian visits), but we highly suspect so.

Will you be on 'The List' any time soon at Marquee? Well, dress the part, work hard, and play harder, and you may soon be partying along with some of the world's hottest socialites.

If your into the best nightlife that Sydney has to offer you owe it to yourself to take the gamble and get on over to Marquee all you cool cats out there.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the event a hot success, and Paris - we hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in Australia.

Saturday night was elegant night on the cruise. We all dressed up and had a lobster and steak dinner. As we were getting ready to go to the dinining room, this stairway reminded me of the seen int he movie Titanic when Rose walks down to meet Jack. It kind of makes me think of how I'm very much like Leonardo Dicaprio's character. How I got really lucky to find such an amazing woman. Not only is she goregous, but she's intelligent, talented, kind-hearted and ambitious. She's beautiful from the inside out and she is elegant in every way. I feel so blessed to have found her, out of all the fish in the sea.

Was it luck or is it love?
