The bizarre-looking, slow-moving, plant-eating walking stick - among the most intriguing of the insects - has raised camouflage, mimicry and defense to a veritable art form. Through an adaptation called "crypsis," it blends in so perfectly with its natural habitat that it often goes completely undetected by would-be predators. Its taxonomic family name, "Phasmatidae," derived from the Greek word "Phasma," means, appropriately, phantom or apparition.

The Devil's Garden in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is a natural wonder that will leave you in awe. The Iguassu Falls located on the border of Argentina and Brazil and consisting of approximately 257 individual falls over 2.7 kilometers. The Falls are a UNESCO World Heritage site and were chosen as one of the new natural seven wonders of the world.
The Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s throat) with its U-shape is the highlight of these majestic waterfalls. It is 82 m high, 150 m wide and 700 m long, while the rest of the falls average 64 metres.

Devils Tower (also known as Bear Lodge) is a butte, possibly laccolithic, composed of igneous rock in the Bear Lodge Ranger District of the Black Hills, near Hulett and Sundance in Crook County, northeastern Wyoming, above the Belle Fourche River. It rises 1,267 feet (386 m) above the Belle Fourche River, standing 867 feet (264 m) from summit to base. The summit is 5,112 feet (1,558 m) above sea level. (9/28/2024)
Although Tasmanian devils are nocturnal, they like to rest in the sun. This is an older devil relaxing on a tree at the Cradle Sancutuary located adjacent to the World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain National Park. Tasmanian devils only live five to eight years.
Dust Devils. Brilliant sunset and filtered dust kicked up from the arriving tram created a cool moody atmosphere last night just before heading home. Cool effect but kind of gritty dirty that I wasn't quite expecting....... ☺

Devil's Hole is a box canyon in Las Trampas Regional Park. 6.5 Mile loop. 1,200ft elevation gain.
Take Rocky Ridge View Trail up the hill, go down the backside on Sycamore View trail. You will be rewarded with amazing views. Coming back on Devils Hole, we just climbed out of the canyon in this image.

On the Oregon coast. Single exposure in the middle of the night with 20mm at f/2.0 I wondered at the time why it was so dim, but later determined the bright area had dropped below the horizon.
BNSF 9039 leads a manifest down the Marshall Subdivision at Garretson, South Dakota and crossing a scenic spot over Devil's Gulch, the famed creek where Jesse James coaxed his horse to jump over the gap cut through quartzite while escaping the robbery in Northfield, Minnesota. The Great Northern similarly jumped over the Devil's Gulch with a clear view of the Split Rock River as seen below in the background.
Three Tasmanian Devils making short work of wallaby road kill at Trowunna Wildlife Park in Tasmania. They're noisy eaters and it's every devil for himself; wonderful to see.
