The 16th annual Economic Development Summit was held on Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Greater Waldorf Jaycees Community Center (3090 Crain Highway, Waldorf). The 16th session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD16) runs from 20–23 October 2025 in Geneva.
The conference theme is: "Shaping the future: Driving economic transformation for equitable, inclusive and sustainable development."
Hosted by Switzerland and UNCTAD, it convenes global leaders, experts, changemakers, and civil society for dialogue on trade, investment, development, and the digital economy.

Play is essential for a healthy and happy children’s development. It helps kids to develop a wide range of skills and understandings. Playing, children reflect what is important in their lives.
Play can take several forms and it changes as children grow older. It could be indoors or outdoors, quiet or loud, clean or messy, funny or thoughtful. Children play for different reasons. They can explore to learn new things or it can be to consolidate or improve a skill. Our role as adults is to facilitate play for them.

UD Mandela Washington Fellows spent two days at the Horn Venture Development Center with local Entrepreneurs where they discussed everything from fundraising to management and had a pitch competition!
There was no school for students on Jan. 10, 2025. Instead, our staff was busy collaborating, planning, and attending professional development workshops. They had the chance to hear Darryl Hunter — adjunct college instructor, company trainer, high school basketball coach, and retired police officer — speak about the role of trauma in students' lives. It was a very informative session that provided teachers with new techniques for identifying and assisting students affected by trauma.
Building on a partnership with Madison Metropolitan School District, Bubbler staff lead continued PD sessions around making and learning.

From my research into propaganda, I learnt that a major part of any propaganda poster is the main figurehead/character. This is the main visual element of the piece and gives an insight into the countries culture, religion and race. Due to my countries religion being Hindu, I had to research and portray traditional Hindu garments and clothing on my characters, to ensure that it was obvious to the viewer of my propaganda poster what religion my fictional country was. Expanding on this, I also had to create my dictator, as no dictatorship regime can go without a tyrannical leader. I used my Hindu garment research and also looked at existing dictators, finding similar visual elements in all of them. I then compiled this and created my own visual perception of what my dictator would look like, doing a profile, front view and body sketch.
