16 September 2020. Asian Development Fund (ADF) donors have agreed to a replenishment of more than $4 billion for the ADF 13 and Technical Assistance Special Fund 7, for the 4-years from 2021 to 2024, in a meeting held on the sidelines of the 53rd Annual Meeting of the ADB Board of Governors (2nd Stage). The total size of the replenishment represents a 7% increase in comparison to the previous replenishment, which covered the 2017-2020 period. In his opening remarks, ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa highlighted that both funds will be critical in responding to the COVID-19 crisis and building an inclusive and sustainable recovery in the poorest and most vulnerable countries.

This was the ADF 13 third and final replenishment meeting as part of a negotiation process that started in November 2019 and continued in February 2020. The ADF provides grants to ADB's lower-income developing member countries and supports critical thematic agendas in the Asia and Pacific region.

ADB’s second stage of its 53rd Annual Meeting will be held via virtual meetings and online seminars from 17 to 18 September. At the event, Ministers from ADB members, ADB Management, and development and industry experts will discuss a range of issues confronting Asia and the Pacific as it responds to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Webinar topics include universal health coverage, regional cooperation, technology and investments, resilient and inclusive recovery, and domestic resource mobilization. View the full list of webinars and meetings.

The first stage of the 53rd Annual Meeting comprised a reduced-scale meeting of the Board of Governors on 22 May, during which Governors approved ADB’s financial statements and net income allocation in line with ADB institutional requirements.

Preparation of a meal for a cooking demonstration organized by PRONANUT (National Nutrition Program), a UNICEF partner in Bolenge, a village located about thirty kilometers from Mbandaka, capital of the Equateur province, north-west of the Democratic Republic of Congo, on October 22, 2021. Food monotony is a major factor in chronic malnutrition in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Unlike acute malnutrition, which manifests as severe wasting or nutritional edema, it wreaks havoc over a longer period. By retarding a child's physical and intellectual growth, chronic malnutrition has a direct impact on children's well-being, growth, cognitive development and schooling. To combat this, UNICEF is promoting exclusive breastfeeding for up to 6 months, then the preparation of a rich, balanced, inexpensive and locally available "4-star porridge", made from a combination of 4 types of ingredients - a staple food (flour), a supplement rich in animal (meat, fish, milk, eggs, milk) or vegetable proteins (soybeans, beans), a fatty substance (oil, peanut seeds), and a vitamin and mineral supplement (from fruit) - as a supplement to breastfeeding for children from 6 to 24 months.

A brave decision was taken to move the railway between Son Fuster and Palma city centre underground, and create a new subterranean Intermodal station alongside Plaza Espana, housing the trains, out-of-city buses and the new Metro line. Work was carried out in 2006/7. A huge civil engineering task, carried out remarkably quickly. This series of images shows various stages of the project. Looking towards the new station, the tracks by now underground. A park has been created on this large open space.

A planning notice on the main gate dated 31 July 2018, states Kier’s intention to build 144 houses here, with corresponding landscaping and infrastructure. A similar application on nearby Llanyravon Way dated 11 December 2018, has reduced the figure to 143.
