Colorful Samburu warriors singing and dancing at a wedding ceremony early in the morning in a village near Archers Post, Northern Kenya.
Between the age of about 15 and 30 young Samburu men are traditionally known as "morans". After the circumcision ceremony the Samburu boys enter the age grade "moran", the Maasai word for "warrior". During this life stage they live separated in the bush or they move to special moran manyattas. They learn the tribal customs and develope their strength, courage and endurance. The morans stop cutting their hair at the age of 15. They often dye their long hair with red ochre and also decorate themselves with necklaces and feathers.
The Samburu are semi-nomadic pastoralists in Northern Kenya and they are closely related to the Maasai people. They speak Samburu, a language which is derived from Maa and very similar to the language of the Maasai.

A pair of AGA class 321s and a DLR train for Stratford are neck and neck as they overtake 1Q18 Ferme Park - Norwich test train top and tailed by DRS 68 002 & 68 004.
This had not been my original plan but a 20 minute late arrival into Stratford forced me to rapidly develope a Plan B!
It's been two years ago that I joined the Flickr community, knowing very little about the camera that I was using and about photography in general. Joining Flickr forced me to improve my skills and, of course, now learning my second camera. I want to take the time to thank all of my Flickr friends for always commenting and by doing so have encouraged me in my efforts...it's been a wonderful journey and so much fun!
These 'fogotten woodies' were taken last year at the end of the lake that I frequent. This is an area where many acres are fenced and ranchers graze cows on them. This particular day Acorn Woodpeckers were on just about every fence post along this road. I'm pretty sure that these were newly fledged birds and hadn't develope the fear of predators yet. That soon changed!...:)

Vista de les sequoies i altres arbres monumentals del Arboretum de Masjoan, a Espinelves. Allí hi ha alguns dels arbres més alts i grossos de Catalunya. El tronc en primer pla és de la sequoia més gran que tenen, de 38 metres d'alçada i 110 anys.
Placa de col•lodió sec, mètode Major Russell (col•lodió-taní), en format 4x5; realitzat amb una Graflex Crown Graphic fabricada cap al 1951; Graflex Optar f4,7 de 135mm; col•lodió Mammut Lea-3 i taní; 15 minuts a f5.6 (EV entorn 10,4 al tronc, 9 al fons).
Les plaques cobertes amb co•lodió (i anteriorment albuminades, part essencial del procés) es preparen com per a una placa humida usual. En el moment de treure-les del bany de plata, comença la diversió. Cal rentar la placa, sota llum roja, en dues safates d'aigua destilada, i seguidament, submerir-la en una sol•lució d'aigua, taní i etanol. Son uns 10 minutes per placa, en total. Un cop feta la exposició, encara més important el revelat també és per inmersió. Primer s’humidifica la placa seca amb aigua i etanol, i després es submergeix 5 minuts en una solució d’acid pirogalic i citric, amb unes gotes de nitrat de plata. Amb això s’inicia el revelat, però cal afegir més nitrat de plata passats els cinc minuts i usualment fins als 10-12 minuts.
Les plaques de col•lodió sec son força desconegudes però es varen fer servir en paral•lel al més famós col•lodió humit. Eren molt pràctiques per eliminar la necessitat de portar a sobre tots els quimics i una cambra fosca portatil, però com les exposicions son molt llargues, de diversos minuts com a mínim, en queden exclosos els retrats.

In the Arboretum de Masjoan, in Espinelves, there are some of the largest trees in Catalonia, notable some California sequoias and incense cedars.
Dry collodion plate, Major Russell process (tannin-collodion) in 4x5 format; taken with a Graflex Speed Graphic, made c. 1949; Graflex Optar f4,7 de 135mm lens; Mammut Lea-3 collodion and tannin; exposed for 15 minutes at f5.6 (EV 9 in the shadows, 10,4 in the large tree).
I'm quite happy with this plate, as it was quite dark for this process, but developed quite well.
Plates covered with collodion (and previously albuminized, an essential part of the process) are prepared as for a usual wet plate. The moment you take them out of the silver bath, the fun begins. The plate must be washed, under red light, in two trays of distilled water, and then immersed in a solution of water, tannin and ethanol. It's about 10 minutes per plate, in total
Once the exposure is made, even more important is to develope also by immersion. First, the dry plate is moistened with water and ethanol, and then immersed for 5 minutes in a solution of pyrogallic and citric acid, with a few drops of silver nitrate. This starts the development, but it is necessary to add more silver nitrate after five minutes and usually up to 10-12 minutes.
The dry collodion is a quite convenient "evolution" from the wet collodion, as it allows to go out there without any box of chemicals and a dark box following you. But it never gained more popularity due to it's own problems, like even more complex manipulations and specially much less sensibility, with expositions in the minutes range, limiting it to landscape photography.

Everything at this point was looking promising, sun was behind me and there was a little colour starting to develope above Shutlingsloe, great I thought this is going to be epic, that's what you thought said mother nature and promptly buggered off back to bed.

Chinon CG-5. Chinon 50mm f/1.9 Lens. Chinon Info Back Data Imprinting Unit (DB-010) Tudor 200iso Film uprated to 400iso "Expired" 2006 Colour Film. Developed in Tetenal Colortec C-41 Rapid Negative Kit 3.15min 115F. Scanned with Epson 4490. First exposure i blurred the background then focused for the second. The data unit has very small buttons to enter the data, a bit too small for my big fingers hence FILC instead of FILM. The letters are set out abc etc... so you are constantly looking for the letter to input, plus there is no display so you have to develope the film to see if you have enter'd the text correctly. First roll of film through this Camera. No Adjustments....

Yesterdays morning sunrise. I saw this develope so the pup and I ran out to get this.
We did finally get a taste of spring for a few days, But this morning I woke up to 6" of fresh snow with the forecast for a lot more to come today.
Who knows maybe I'll get lucky and get some more winter shots err!!!!

A Quick one from last night, after working out in the yard last night I saw this develope just as the sun was going down so grabbed the camera and the pup and I hiked out and accross the road a ways to get this.

This morning was the end of the fog for us,10 days of fog and drab. I'm sure glad I got the G12, cause I hadn't been at work very long when I saw this starting to develope so I grabbed the G12 hopped in the truck and headed out into the country to try and get a couple of shots before the fog completely burned off.
If the forecast is right we should finally be getting into spring weather
I think it worth hitting "L"

The Ozona was built around 1893 way out in west Texas. From its early days, boarded teachers, visiting atheletic teams and travelers. During the period of 1919-1921 it boarded geologists and lease men seeking to develope the now significant oil fields of Crockett County. The green sign mounted on the pole to the right appears to be the original neon sign. Can't say when it closed but is now vacant and abandoned. Ozona,Texas. 4.27.2015.

I really wasn't going to even upload this sunset to Flickr, and I wasn't even expecting much out of this evenings sunset photos. Yes, it was a spectacular sunset, but. . . there have been a lot of those lately, and it was a little hazy, which reduces the photo clarity. But friend and flickr contact Andrea Boiani inspired me to appreciate this evening's sunset photos and to upload this one. Thanks Andrea, this one's for you.
On the flight this evening, we landed a few minutes early just before sunset. It was nice actually to be on the ground for a change for the sunset. It is hard trying to manage navigating, and piloting the balloon while also trying to get sunset photos. Naturally it is not good enough to just point and shoot, I HAVE to play with camera adjustments to get flickr material. So it can be quite a challenge. I delayed our post flight picnic for a few minutes as we watched and enjoyed this spectacular sunset unfold and develope in front of us. The half moon was a nice additional touch to have in the sky.
