My Little Buddy. The chipmunk is a regular visitor, finding seeds under the bird feeder.

While Chipmunks are very cute they can be destructive if they nest in your house, fortunately this one has a nest in an old tree stump.

Baby Taj, Agra. India.

Tomb of I'timād-ud-Daulah built between 1622 and 1628 is a Mughal mausoleum in the city of Agra. Often described as jewel box sometimes called Baby Taj is often regarded as a draft of the Taj Mahal. The mausoleum was commissioned by Nur Jahan, the wife of Jahangir, for her father Mirzā Ghiyās Beg, originally a Persian Amir in exile, who had been given the title of I'timād-ud-Daulah (pillar of the state). Mirzā Ghiyās Beg was also the grandfather of Mumtāz Mahāl the wife of the emperor Shah Jahan, responsible for the construction of the Taj Mahal for his beloved wife.

I forgot why I had the kind of bird feeder that prevented big birds like this rook from accessing the feed. So buying that fancy house one has provided a challenge to these very clever birds which they cracked with destructive aplomb. They land on the house one which tilts precariously and spills all the seed out on the ground and they broke the other seed holder when I was away with all that seed strewn across the ground. I was annoyed and yet I had to admire their ingenuity and rational in achieving their goal. This one is a very big bird, (as big as a cat) with beautiful glossy plumage and a scary, tough looking bill. It was standing on the branch that I had the house bird feeder on and it dwarfs it due to its size. You can see by its stance that it was clearly working out the puzzle.

He’s cute but destructive he chewed the rope on the other bird feeder and it crashed to the ground.

The shadowed woodpecker. Rare, very hard to spot, and so destructive.

Mining like this is a common sight in Cripple Creek and Victor. It's cool to look at and photograph, but it is also highly destructive, and what is destroyed will never be the same. It is hard to imagine mining in this way is profitable, but this is one of the most successful gold mines in history. Take a look at Victor and the nearby gold mine from Google earth. The mining operation is to the north of the city. www.google.com/maps/place/Victor,+CO/@38.7094974,-105.145...

"The Mount St. Helens major eruption of May 18, 1980 remains the deadliest and most economically destructive volcanic event in U.S. history. Fifty-seven people were killed; 200 homes, 47 bridges, 15 miles (24 km) of railways, and 185 miles (298 km) of highway were destroyed. A massive debris avalanche, triggered by a magnitude 5.1 earthquake, caused a lateral eruption that reduced the elevation of the mountain's summit from 9,677 ft (2,950 m) to 8,363 ft (2,549 m), leaving a 1 mile (1.6 km) wide horseshoe-shaped crater. The debris avalanche was 0.6 cubic miles (2.5 km3) in volume. The 1980 eruption disrupted terrestrial ecosystems near the volcano. By contrast, aquatic ecosystems in the area greatly benefited from the amounts of ash, allowing life to multiply rapidly. Six years after the eruption, most lakes in the area had returned to their normal state." - Wikipedia

Ops I’ve done it again, sorry Britney. I bought another camera. Jeez, I buy far too much camera gear, there’s a definite destructive pattern I should be alert to it. It’s all down to not getting out and taking photos, I get depressed, I get a little kick from looking at photography gear and sometimes I go to far I buy something. This time I’ve bought another Fujifilm camera, a XH1, it’s second hand and in mint condition. The firmware was still at the base level, had only taken 800 photos and an absolute steal of a price, but I don’t love it yet. I do get affectionate about my gear, but that only happens when it’s part of the magic, when I take that photo with it. Here is photo I took with a camera I now love, my Canon EOS R, it was taken back in November last year in a wood I’m champing at the bit to get back to, and come next week I can’t see anything stopping me. Getting out and about again taking photos will be a lot healthier all round, especially financially.

Looks like a toothbrush, this little guy is quite destructive, capable of destroying entire forests, so I've read.

The busier bus stops in Newark are being upgraded with new shelters and seating. This style of bench appears to be quite good and hopefully is fairly vandal proof although, thankfully, Newark does not have a lot of destructive louts around, thank goodness!

The itch-scratch cycle is a destructive cycle that occurs when the desire to scratch an itch leads to more scratching, which can worsen the itch and damage the skin.

Itching is a signal from nerve receptors in the skin that something potentially dangerous needs to be removed. Scratching can temporarily relieve the itch, but it also activates reward mechanisms in the brain that can make scratching feel pleasurable.

Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.

A large fire north of Los Angeles called the Sand Fire has consumed a huge swath of terrain, much of it home to some amazing plants and animals. A few homes have been burned but the primary destruction is to the forest and chaparral that has not burned for more than 60 years and with us moving into the 5th year of a severe drought, fires are becoming more frequent and more destructive. This is a photo of the sky taken in Santa Monica from this last Saturday.

a sheep, not looking particularly sheepish, on our patio.

for last week or so, every morning starts with about 6 sheep in the garden. We chase them out but they come back in the afternoons too.

The are surprisingly destructive to potted plants!

In particular, I had planted a load of shop-bought carrots in 3 pots for hover fly pictures on carrot flowers and they where just at flowering point and I was looking forward to a mindless binge of photography on the pollinators that they would attract over the next few weeks - now the carrot plants are either in sheep's stomachs or strewn over the grass.

They also like wallflowers unfortunately. ..and they nibbled through the wires of various solar lights too. On a more positive note dahlias and french marigolds are definitely not to their liking.

We have now worked out how the sheep are getting from their field on to our lane so hopefully things will return to normal soon.

What is left of my garden bench 😢.One more job for spring cleaning.

I’ll never be a wildlife photographer but I couldn’t resist a few very quick snaps of a couple of Billywitches (there is a 2nd one round the other side which you can just about see) who were eating one of my roses in the garden (there are not enough of them to be destructive so I allowed them one rose- plus I was too scared to move them on 😱).

It’s Billywitch season here in the East- they only come out during May and June and I have to admit I am quite scared of these strange, noisy but very harmless bugs. They are quite large and make a lot of noise, flying around like little helicopters. They’re very clumsy and will fly into your house at night and crash into your TV, ending up on the floor upside down, unable to get up. There are many local myths surrounding these creatures, the most memorable one for me being that if they fly into your hair, their velcro-like feet will get stuck and you will need to get scissors and cut your hair off to get it out. Fortunately, despite being ‘dive bombed’ by them many times over the years, I’ve never had to find out whether the hair myth is true!! I’m pretty sure everyone in my county has a story about a near-miss with a Billywitch!

Their real name is the Cockchafer- Billywitch is a local name for them which I’ve never heard of outside of Suffolk, and I think we can all agree it is a much better name 😂!! They're also known as May Bugs or June Bugs.

If you look up a proper macro photo of one of these you’ll see they’re actually very beautiful with enviable eyebrows :)

More storm devastation on Merivale Rd. in Ottawa! This happened across from Merivale Mall on the right of this pic. More than 10 people died after this powerful storm tore through our area! It could have been so many more! Power is still out for hundreds of thousands!

What is useless and destructive is to imagine that enlightenment or virtue can be found by seeking for fresh stimulation. The monastic life is a refusal of any view that will make human maturity before God dependent on external stimulus, ‘good thoughts’, good impressions, edifying influences and ideas, Instead, the monk must learn to live with his own darkness, with the interior horror of temptation and fantasy. Salvation affects the whole of the psyche; to try to escape boredom, sexual frustration, restlessness, unsatisfied desire by searching for fresh tasks and fresh ideas is to attempt to seal off these areas from grace. Without the humiliating and wholly ‘unspiritual’ experiences of cell-life –the limited routine of trivial tasks, the sheer tedium and loneliness –there would be no way of confronting much of human nature. It is a discipline to destroy illusions. The monk has come to the desert to escape the illusory Christian identity proposed by the world; he now has to see the roots of illusion in himself, in his longing to be dramatically and satisfyingly in control of his life, the old familiar imperialism of the self bolstered by the intellect.

The Starling - with its winter plumage. A noisy, destructive, often hated bird. But I did like the subtle colors and because of that it had to be done with selective coloring.
