I've been away for a while, but have not forgotten this platform. I'm still a flickr-er at heart, it's just that as the kids come and work heats up, then photography begins to fall by the wayside, sadly.

This photo was actually taken over a year ago, so technically this is a #throwbackthursday post, I suppose. It's a beautiful spot on the edge of an authentic village outside of Siem reap--one of my favourite places. The company that I work for arranges for this amazing dining experience in the rice paddys—it's as memorable as it sounds.

Lexington, North Carolina is generally considered to be the most barbecue-friendly town in the USA. When we were there in 2010 on a barbecue vacation, Lexington had 20 barbecue restaurants - in a town of about 18,000 people.

The local visitors' center, run by the Chamber of Commerce (where the colorful pig shown here resides) has a very helpful barbecue map showing each of the restaurants. More impressive, the map indicates which restaurants still cook with wood and which have switched to gas (and thus, arguably, are no longer entitled to be called "barbecue" restaurants).

Eating in Lexington is a wonderful experience that I highly recommend to everyone.

Smokey Joe's is one of the Lexington, NC barbecue places that still cooks with wood. In a real barbecue town like Lexington, I don't understand how a place that uses gas can survive.
