BMW's Vision Efficient Dynamics concept shown in Frankfurt really moved the game on in this area. Not only do the surfaces sit away from the primary structure, which creates the impression that they are 'floating', but they are twisted and fold back on themselves in a manner typically not possible with pressed steel panels. BMW claim that their positioning, and the channels created between the surfaces, are used to control the flow of air over the body. Aero challenges are clearly one of the driving forces behind this trend, and here it creates a dramatic new surface language.
I think Wilson has inspired design movements that are actually taking over in web design circles now. If immitation really is the sincerest form of flattery, then Wilson should feel VERY flattered.
Do take a look at the work section of his site. Then look at WHEN he did some of those projects. You'll see very quickly that he is ahead of the pack, and that he truly is one to watch if you want to know the direction design will be going in looking forward.
May I also say that his logo is a thing of friggin beauty.

This is awesome. I've worked with these guys and I can say first hand how amazing and skilled they are. They've added a new member to their team who has put together a great brand experience that carries over into their podcast (the web20show) and some other very interesting projects.
If I had a podcast I'd be all over that transpondr alpha.... do have a look.
So besides all that, I'm really feeling the vibe they're creating, design-wise. Kevin Burg is the man behind the curtain putting this all together. And might I say, he's doing an excellent job NOT doing the same thing as everyone else. You all know what I'm talking about... LOL
The thing is, this brand feels totally current, without suffering for jumping on the web20 design bandwagon. Others will suffer for it. Mark my words.
Kevin has a great eye for design. His CSS looks clean clean clean. I expect this guy is going to make some waves.
