Antonio Scarponi is an #architect, #designer and #educator, founder the Zurich based #studio Conceptual Devices. He studied Architecture at Cooper Union, New York and at IUAV, Venice, from which he holds a PhD in #urban design. He conceives #art, design and #architecture as a #cultural tool for social engagement. His projects take the form of narrations that activate and repurpose objects and subjects such as local communities, industries, #agencies, municipalities. In addition, he has been active in the field of resilient urban strategies with a strong focus on urban agriculture. Is the the author of ELIOOO, an hydroponic and humanponic manual to transform #IKEA into a distributor of spare parts of a kit to grow food at home. His work had been widely exhibited in #galleries and #museum internationally and acquired in many permanent collections.

AIGA Philadelphia 2009 Kick-Off PartyA big congratulations goes to 2009 AIGA Philadelphia Fellow recipient, Laurie Churchman. Ms. Churchman is the principal of Designlore, a place for making, thinking and writing about design. She is also an Assistant Professor of Fine Arts, Communication Design, at the University of Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia Design Community is proud to have Laurie among us, setting the highest standards for design in this region. Congratulations, Laurie! The Fellow Award recipient was announced at this year's Kick Off party, January 22. Held at The Fieldhouse and sponsored by Aquent, the event buzzed with an exceptional turn-out of local designers and friends. Between Wii games and drinks, Kelly Holahan, President, AIGA Philadelphia, summed up 2008 events and presented events for the coming year. These include lectures by Michael Beirut, Mike Lebowitz, and Roberto de Vicq de Cumptich together with Matteo Bologna. The 2009 season will also continue AIGA Philly's annual events:Feedback, Studio Tours, New To You and INDEX. Additional events will include Green Tea Hours, a lecture by Si Scott, hosted by Philadelphia University, and the Philadelphia Design Awards Exhibition and award presentation on May 1.
