Description of Historic Place
Bronte Cemetery is located in Bronte Village between the West Street fork, south of Seneca Drive, in the Town of Oakville. The forested cemetery had its first burial in 1823.
The property was designated, by the Town of Oakville in 1987, for its heritage value, under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, By-law 1987-294.
Heritage Value
Bronte Cemetery is associated with the area's earliest pioneers. In 1830, Philip Sovereign deeded the east corner of his farm for the cemetery, after several people had been buried there, beginning in 1823. He specified that it be for people of "all orders, sects, nations and parties". Almost a third of the headstones belong to children, others to mariners. The mariners interred include, Jimmy Baker, first mate on the schooner Magellan, who died when it collided with the U. L. Hurd, in 1877 and the Dorland brothers, fishermen lost east of Bronte in the great gale and snowstorm of December 1886. Many of the early notable families in the cemetery include: Adams, Belyea, Butler, Dorland, Lucas, MacDonald, McWane, Osborne, Ribble, Sovereign, Triller and Williams.
Bronte Cemetery is a good representation of 19th century cemetery design. It is characterised by a naturalistic setting to attract and comfort the living, the use of markers and monuments to perpetuate the memory of individuals of historic importance and a park-like layout for public use. True to the original plan, gravesites are placed with separate individual markers.
Character-Defining Elements
Character defining elements that contribute to the heritage value of Bronte Cemetery include its:
- original markers and monuments, with their surviving inscriptions
- variety of styles, materials and symbolism represented in the markers and monuments
- range of size and sophistication of markers and monuments, from modest to elaborate
- park-like layout including its mature trees
- monuments
- individual grave markers with their surviving inscriptions
- location in Bronte on early settlement grounds
It is in the contrast of light and dark that design happens.

Die faszinierende Atmosphäre des Red Dot Design Museums Essen entsteht durch den Kontrast von Alt und Neu, von Industriearchitektur und Produktkultur. Das Museum ist im Kesselhaus der Zeche Zollverein beheimatet und befindet sich damit im Zentrum eines der bedeutendsten Industriedenkmäler des 20. Jahrhunderts, das 2001 von der UNESCO zum Welterbe ernannt wurde.
The fascinating atmosphere of the Red Dot Design Museum Essen is created by the contrast between old and new, between industrial architecture and product culture. The museum is housed in the boiler house of the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex, placing it at the heart of one of the most important industrial monuments of the 20th century, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001.
The Peacock feather must be one of the most beautiful of God's creations - full of colour and grace.

Für diese Ausstellung würde zusammen mit Märklin die 101 003 beklebt und seit dem ist sie in Deutschland vor Inter-, Eurocitys und Euronights sowie als Modell in 1:87. Sie War zusammen mit 101 013, 101 057 und 101 110 eine von 4 101er Werbeloks welche nach langer Zeit wieder eine Weiße war.
Auch wenn die Ausstellung vorbei ist, ist 101 003 weiterhin auf den Deutschen Gleisen unterwegs. Im August war 101 003 zur Blauen Stunde vor den NJ 470 nach Zürich gespannt und macht sich nun weiter auf den Weg Richtung Süden

A couple months ago, my job moved to a new building. This was one of the last times I was in the old location, after almost everything was moved out.
This year I participated in the copenhagen photomarathon like last year where I came in number 3. I did not do as well as last year, I came in number 8. you can see the whole series here

Pavillon in Kopenhagen von Henning Larsen Architects
Mitte Juni 2022 fand in Kopenhagen das jährliche Designfestival 3daysofdesign statt. Für diesen Anlass entwarfen Henning Larsen Architects (Kopenhagen) einen temporären Pavillonbau. Er steht im gartenartigen Innenhof des Designmuseums Danmark, das in einem Gebäudekomplex aus der Zeit des Rokoko untergebracht ist. Der Fritz Hansen Pavilion – benannt nach dem gleichnamigen dänischen Möbelhersteller, der in diesem Jahr sein 150. Jubiläum feiert – diente während des Festivals als Ausstellungsdisplay für Produkte der Firma. Nun wird er noch bis Mitte Herbst vom Designmuseum als Bühne für verschiedene Veranstaltungen wie Sommerschulen, Ausstellungen und Workshops genutzt.
Der aus Massivholz gefertigte, 350 Quadratmeter große Bau sei vom Garten inspiriert, in dem er stehe und schaffe einen hybriden Raum mit fließenden Übergängen zwischen innen und außen, erklärt Eva Ravnborg, Partnerin und Projektleiterin bei Henning Larsen. Man habe einen Bau kreieren wollen, der zum einen die Designphilosophie von Fritz Hansen mit einer zeitlosen Ästhetik widerspiegelt und zum anderen nachhaltig im Sinne einer Kreislaufwirtschaft ist. Verwendet wurden standardisierte Bauteile, die schnell zusammengeschraubt werden können. Dies soll die im Herbst bevorstehende Demontage vereinfachen. Abfall sei auf ein Minimum reduziert, zugleich könnten alle Materialien später an anderer Stelle wiederverwendet werden.
Bei der Gestaltung standen Einfachheit, eine gute Versorgung mit Tageslicht und kohlenstoffarme Materialien im Mittelpunkt. Der quaderförmige, ebenerdige Baukörper ist bis zum Dachfirst von einer homogenen Gebäudehülle aus dunklem Holz und Polycarbonat umgeben, die das Volumen wie aus einem Guss wirken lässt. Je nach Betrachtungsperspektive wirkt der Pavillon eher dunkel und verschlossen, oder aber er erinnert mit seiner muschelartigen, transluzenten Struktur an ein Gewächshaus. Einbauten aus Sperrholz bilden einen zurückhaltenden Rahmen für die Möbelausstellung ebenso wie für künftige Veranstaltungen. (da)

On Saturday late afternoon we went to see St Mary's Cathedral near Japantown in San Francisco. A service was in session, we were asked to wait until it finished. The church has beautiful stained glass windows. After the congregation left I took this photo in the center aisle facing back from a low point of view to catch the reflections on the floor.
I processed a balanced HDR photo from three RAW exposures.
