clouds came across the path of the sun, but it disappears beyond the forest and the land falls hastily in twilight../ Nedstigning...molnen ställer sig i vägen för solen, men den slinkar undan och sänker sig bakom skogen, skymningen faller snabbt över landet.../ Descenso..., unas nubes se atraviesan en el camino del sol, pero desaparece tras el bosque y el campo entra de golpe en penumbras...(DSC_7584-2)
I met these two walkers who seemed to have had enough of the cold wet and windy conditions up top. Photo taken on Comb Crags, as a brief sunny spell brushes Middle Tongue on the flanks of Helvellyn.

St. Pauli-Elbtunnel
Hamburg
Beautiful sunshine after days of fog and cloudy sky, I could not resist climbing up the Wiehengebirge in the afternoon. I was rewarded with a breathtaking sunset when going down the hill. Bad Oeynhausen, Ostwestfalen, Germany

Nothing is so beautiful as Spring —
When weeds in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush;
Thrush's eggs look little low heavens, and thrush
Through the echoing timber does so rinse and wring
The ear, it strikes like lightnings to hear him sing;
The glassy peartree leaves and blooms, they brush
The descending blue; that blue is all in a rush
With richness; the racing lambs too have fair their fling.

Normally there are steps down from Craigshannoch, but descending the steeper slopes is tricky in the deep snow, as you can't quite see where you're stepping, and with crampons rocks can be treacherous.
Wairēinga Scenic Reserve does a nice job at maintaining and allowing views of the falls as you descend.

This bird and the pose just makes me think of an angel coming down from above.
In this shot, the bird was heading towards the feeder but he wasn't quite within the sweet spot for the best focus. He hit that just as he was landing and also as he left the feeder.
So the sharpness is definitely lacking a bit but I thought the overall aesthetics were pleasing anyway so I decided I share it. Can't always get that perfection but sometimes we get what we get.
And it's so rare to see these birds do anything other than scale up and down a tree trunk. So I'll take it, even if it's not perfect.

I was hoping this Bontebok was going to give me an extra special action shot by leaping down to the next level, unfortunately it just turned to look my way then gracefully went on its way carefully looking where to step next...
Hạ Long Bay (Vịnh Hạ Long, literally: "descending dragon bay") is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and popular travel destination in Quảng Ninh Province, Vietnam. Administratively, the bay belongs to Hạ Long City, Cẩm Phả town, and is a part of Vân Đồn District. The bay features thousands of limestone karsts and isles in various shapes and sizes. Hạ Long Bay is a center of a larger zone which includes Bái Tử Long Bay to the northeast, and Cát Bà Island to the southwest. These larger zones share a similar geological, geographical, geomorphological, climate and cultural characters.
Hạ Long Bay has an area of around 1,553 km2, including 1,960–2,000 islets, most of which are limestone. The core of the bay has an area of 334 km2 with a high density of 775 islets. The limestone in this bay has gone through 500 million years of formation in different conditions and environments. The evolution of the karst in this bay has taken 20 million years under the impact of the tropical wet climate.
The geo-diversity of the environment in the area has created biodiversity, including a tropical evergreen biosystem, oceanic and sea shore biosystem. Hạ Long Bay is home to 14 endemic floral species and 60 endemic faunal species.
Historical research surveys have shown the presence of prehistorical human beings in this area tens of thousands years ago. The successive ancient cultures are the Soi Nhụ culture around 18,000–7000 BC, the Cái Bèo culture 7000–5000 BC and the Hạ Long culture 5,000–3,500 years ago.
Hạ Long Bay also marked important events in the history of Vietnam with many artifacts found in Bài Thơ Mount, Đầu Gỗ Cave, Bãi Cháy.
500 years ago, Nguyễn Trãi praised the beauty of Hạ Long Bay in his verse Lộ nhập Vân Đồn, in which he called it "rock wonder in the sky". In 1962, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of North Vietnam listed Hạ Long Bay in the National Relics and Landscapes publication. In 1994, the core zone of Hạ Long Bay was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site according to criterion vii, and listed for a second time according to criterion viii.

Autumn leaves glisten in the morning sun as a trio of EMD F40PHRs make their descent into Agawa Canyon with a sold-out, 17-car train. Pictured here at the scenic Mile 112 trestle, passengers aboard the Tour Train will catch their first glimpses of the world-famous Canyon as the train follows the Agawa River to Canyon Park, just two miles ahead.
I always quite like the images with a jetty in front of a reflective lake or loch. Sadly there aren't any jetties on my stretch of coast, so I thought I'd make one. It was real fun, apart from nearly being savaged by a mad dog. Lark Descending is a song by Half Man Half Biscuit, and is suitably strange like my Jetty. I love the first line, My hands are stained with thistle milk.
