Het Depot van museum Boijmans van Beuningen

The train doesn't stop anymore, but here is a reminder that it once did more then just whistle.

I dare say that a radical building like the Depot only could have been designed by Rotterdam based architecs MVRDV.

It is basically a giant glass clad reinforced concrete bowl that is the depot of the Boijmans van Beuningen museum (which is currently closed due to a renovation). The inside structure of the building is a metal skeleton and many of the walls, ceilings and even some floors are made of laminated glass,

One of the unique selling points of the edifice is the vast roof terrace with its expansive Rottterdam views. Its entrance hall is situated next to the restaurant. In winter blankets/plaids are offered there.

This capture is shot down the atrium and is number 11 of the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen album.

Vintage railroad dispatch and telegraph office...

I haven't gotten out much for a few weeks due to illness and increased work schedule, so I've spent some time going over old files and reworking some. (In this case a rework of a rework.) I decided mono Monday was a good day for this one. For those not familiar, the Amana Colonies is an Iowa National Historic Landmark and well worth a visit if you happen by. One word though-take time to explore the back roads and side streets in addition to the touristy shops and eateries.

On the eve of September 30, 2021, a westbound BNSF coal train off the Montana Rail Link, passes the depot at Sandpoint, Idaho. BNSF is double tracking through here to the MRL connection at Sandpoint Junction (in the background) in conjunction with the second bridge being built at the Lake Pend Oreille crossing. It appears that the right-of-way will have to widened here, perhaps using a retaining wall to provide enough clearance between the depot and the buildings and parking lots on the right. Regardless, this scene will change a bit in the next few years.

In 2021 Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen will open its doors. The entire collection – this is a world first – is accessible to the public. The design of the Rotterdam architect Winy Maas of MVRDV reaches with his forty meters as high as the museum tower. And from the free accessible rooftop garden with restaurant, residents and other visitors offer a beautiful panorama of the city and its harbour.

One of the few things that didn’t move during this one second exposure was the locomotive. Some of the ‘players’ were a bit fluid.

I'm pretty sure I had the middle lens of the Cooke triplet reversed after cleaning, accounting for the exceptionally soft corners. The A2B was a simple and inexpensive camera when it was first produced and sold in the USA.

The Nenana Depot, in Nenana, Alaska, is an Alaska Railroad depot built in 1922. The station served an extension of the railroad which was laid in 1916. An addition was placed on the station in 1937 to house the station agent. The station has served both as an important part of the railroad's northern operations and as a terminal for its riverboat service on the Yukon River. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. Source - Wikipedia

The Northwest Railway Museum (NRM) is a railroad museum in Snoqualmie, King County, Washington. It incorporates a heritage railway, historic depot, exhibit hall, library, and collection care center, and serves more than 130,000 visitors per year.

The heritage railway incorporates five miles of the line constructed in 1889 by the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern Railway (SLS&E), which was part of Seattle's response to the Northern Pacific selecting Tacoma as their western terminus. The SLS&E was later purchased by the Northern Pacific.

The Snoqualmie depot was built in 1890 by the SLS&E. The depot is an example of a building that was in nearly every community across the nation. Good architecture was good advertising and enhanced company pride. The station once served as the terminal for this early recreation area. An atypical design was the result of the need for a rural combined freight-passenger depot, however, one with lavish decorations to reflect the holiday spirit of vacationers from Seattle. Visitors came to enjoy hunting and fishing, as well as excursions to Snoqualmie Falls.

The depot is currently being renovated and the roof being replaced

The small city of Galion, Ohio in north central Ohio has a much larger station than you would expect for a city that has never had more than 13,000 people. When built in 1900 this was the division headquarters of the Cleveland, Chicago, Cincinnati, and St Louis railroad (CCC&StL or Big Four). It was a division headquarters until the Big Four was taken over by the New York Central in 1929. The HQ was moved to Bellefontaine farther west in Ohio where there was a larger terminal. Today the depot is on the National Register of Historic Places and is owned and maintained by the city. Passing the depot is a westbound autorack train led by an ES40DC; they were using symbol M805

They painted the RR Depot back to the colors it originally was in the 1890’s. I’m not sure I like but I’m sure I’ll get use to it.
