A megalomaniacal manicule makes it's demands clear in the Botanical Gardens in Ventnor. The park had once been the grounds of the National Hospital for TB and when that institution closed the grounds were turned into a public garden. These cast iron signs must have been part of the hospital's laying out and each of the principal walks was named after a Doctor and identified my a monumental; and ornate signpost like this.
Wish more of the shot was in sharper focus, but I am pleased enough with the angle and detail to post it.

Les non-Alençonnais se demanderont sûrement, à la vision de cette image : "Mais de quoi qu'il nous parle, cet énergumène ? De quel cadran il parle ?"
Eh oui, mais il faut être du cru pour savoir que l'immense sphère de pierre, ce globe terrestre juché sur ce pilier devant une étrange plaque aux signes étranges, est en fait bel et bien un cadran solaire accompagné de son mode d'emploi !
Les Alençonnais ne se formalisent plus d'un tel objet qui, si l'on ne connait pas son âge, reste clairement une pièce ancienne et précieuse du patrimoine local...
Pendant ce temps, les passants lisent leur journal...

Le 8 Février 2016, la tempête Ruzica balayait la Bretagne et la houle qu'elle générait déferlait sur le littoral et le phare du Four n'y a pas échappé.
Des vagues de plus de 10m s'écrasaient alors sur le phare que beaucoup ont photographié depuis la presqu'île Saint-Laurent.

It appears that Lt. Mombarg carved this on May 25, 1945.
In 1942, War Department needed to house POWs to learn strategic information on weaponry. Interrogation sites were set up at Ft. Hunt, VA and Byron Hot Springs, CA. Ft. Hunt could not handle the interrogation demands and the Camp Michaux was selected as a second site. Thousands of prisoners (possibly as many as 7,000) were interrogated here during the course of the war including Japanese prisoners toward the end of the war.
This writing is located on the side of small stone bridge on the Michaux Road.

Négombo (Sri Lanka) - J’ai demandé à mon chauffeur de tuk-tuk de m’emmener dans un quartier de pêcheurs. Finalement, il me dépose dans un secteur visiblement résidentiel avec de belles villas bien entretenues. C’est devant l’une d’entre-elles que j’ai fait cette photos d’enfants qui jouant dans la rue. Des enfants qui n’ont rien en commun avec les enfants de pêcheurs que j’ai pu rencontrer à travers le monde. Leurs vêtement et leur vélos laissent plutôt penser qu’ils appartiennent à la classe " moyenne-supérieure ". Renseignements pris, le chauffeur m’a déposé dans le secteur de armateurs.

Negombo (Sri Lanka) - I asked my tuk-tuk driver to take me to a fishing district. Finally, he drops me off in a visibly residential area with beautiful, well-maintained villas. That's where I took this picture of kids playing in the streets. Children who have nothing in common with the children of fishermen that I have met around the world. Their clothing and their bikes rather suggest that it belongs to the upper middle class ". Information received, the driver dropped me off in the shipowners' quarter.

"There are people so unjust that they demand of their partners a fidelity that they themselves violate, they resemble the generals who flee cowardly from the enemy, and that nevertheless want their soldiers to hold the post with courage." Plutarch.
When in the eleventh century the count Sancho Garcia reconquered the city, he uttered the phrase that would have been the motto of this Castilian villa since then: "This will be the most faithful Peña of Castile." Located in a strategic place, between valleys and near the river Duero, this town of Valladolid had great importance during the medieval period, especially in the time of the infant Don Juan Manuel, the author of "The Count Lucanor" is buried here. Its beautiful castle suffered the ailments of those tumultuous times, until finally being reconstructed, almost as we see it today, in the fifteenth century.
There is no better place to get a great photograph of Peñafiel, than the Plaza del Coso. Its medieval buildings with wooden windows, still serve today of boxes from which people attend one of the oldest bullfighting festivals of Spain. On its sand first took place medieval tournaments, and later bullfights. A tradition that is taken up every year during the month of August.

Cuando en el siglo XI el conde Sancho García reconquistaba la ciudad, pronunció la frase que desde entonces sería el lema de esta villa castellana: "Esta será la Peña más Fiel de Castilla". Situada en un lugar estratégico, entre valles y cercana al río Duero, esta localidad vallisoletana tuvo gran importancia durante la época medieval, sobre todo en tiempos del infante Don Juan Manuel, y es que el autor de "El Conde Lucanor" yace aquí enterrado. Su precioso castillo sufrió los achaques de aquellos tiempos tumultuosos, hasta ser finalmente reconstruido, casi como lo vemos hoy día, en el siglo XV.
No hay lugar mejor para conseguir una gran fotografía de Peñafiel, que la Plaza del Coso. Sus edificios de madera de época medieval, sirven todavía hoy de palcos desde los que se asiste a una de las fiestas taurinas más antiguas de España. Y es que sobre su arena se pasó de realizar justas y torneos medievales, a corridas de toros. Una tradición que se retoma cada año durante el mes de agosto.
Bilan 2018, Ce fus sans contredit une année en montagne russe. Un début d'année fructueuse en sortie photo malgré la maladie. Un printemps qui confirma ma victoire juridique en appel avec un banc de juge unanime, wow enfin après plus de 10 ans de bataille juridique. Mais finalement les assurances ont décidé qu'il devait s'acharner donc ils font une demande à la cour suprême je n'ai jamais été autant en colère de toute ma vie...mais bon je me suis dit je dois continuer à vivre et trouver mon bonheur. Ce fus finalement assez facile car j'ai une grande force due à mon chum, famille et mais qui me soutiennent.
L’été, la maladie ne supporte pas la chaleur j'ai de la misère à respirer donc les sorties photo se font rare. Mai 2018, décès de ma belle-mère de façon subite qui fut très difficile, beaucoup de peine et le crash fut intense. Mais quelques jours plus tard j'ai réussi une sortie kayak avec mon complice et ami Maxime. C’était magique de voir les bébés huards né 24 heures plus tôt c’était tout qu'une surprise.
Et enfin le voyage aux iles de la Madelaine est arrivé au bon moment ou j'ai ressuscité dû à l'air marin qui m'a été d’un grand aide. Beaucoup de photos, c'était magique là-bas. Énormément de nouvelle espèce d'oiseaux dont le pluvier siffleur.
L'automne j'ai sorti mon calendrier qui fut un grand succès et un grand merci à vous tous de m'avoir encouragé. En Octobre, petite escapade en amoureux et avec toutou nougat dans le bas st-Laurent où j'ai fait beaucoup de photos, mais les douleurs et la fatigue sont de plus en plus difficile à gérer et les crash de plus en plus pénibles alors je veux moins sortir...une première pour moi.
Moi qui étais toujours assez forte que je me sentais coupable de ne pas pouvoir sortir. Une belle surprise en 2018 une nouvelle amie Isabelle elle est atteinte de la même la maladie que moi. Le 4 novembre l’adoption de Juliette notre chaton sauvé par des amis fut un amour dès les premiers instants. Elle met de la joie et de l’amour dans mon cœur à tous les jours.
Finalement une année parsemée de douleurs intense de fatigue extrême de balade en déambulateur mais aussi de bonheurs, de joie, d'amour !
Mais ce qui me vient en tête en cette fin d'année c’est vos commentaires, votre suivi quotidien, c’est l'amour des miens qui me force à continuer à me battre.
L’amour de mon chum, ma Mamou, ma sœur, ma filleule Louanne, ma mamie, ma tantinette, mes amis, famille et mes toutous.
"A vous tous, je souhaite du bonheur sans limite, de la santé à volonté et de l’amour a profusion!

Cet écureuil a l'air de se demander pourquoi il y a autant de photographes et des ornithologues autour du mât dans le Bois de Coulonge.
Il y a des jours où on se demande si ça valait la peine de mettre le nez dehors. Assis au pied de la pointe est du Parc en attendant que le couple de petits garrots se rapproche, un couple beaucoup plus gros décida d'amerrir presque sur les petits que j'avais à l’œil.
Bien entendu, ils décidèrent de plonger tandis que les deux bernaches bien dodues commencèrent à avancer doucement dans ma direction. Madame menait l'armada et semblait vraiment vouloir me déloger afin d'emprunter les quelques dalles de pierre sur lesquels mon séant était pourtant bien assis.
"Pas de ça Lizette" me dis-je étant arrivé le premier. Arès avoir dé-zoomer de 500m à 200mm et n'étant plus capable de focuser, il fallait bien se rendre à l'évidence....elles voulaient m'évincer.
J'ai quand même pu saisir quelques clichés bien nets et perlés d'eau avant de me résigner à lever le camp et laisser le couple venir brouter les quelques herbes qui venaient de voir le jour.
Comfortably seated at the Eastern end of the Park waiting for the Bufflehead couple to approach, a boisterous Canada Goose couple decided to "land" almost on top of them, sending them to scurry under water. The female led goose armada was heading straight in my direction. I guess they wanted to climb the few steps that were comfortably accommodating my behind. I was not exactly happy about having to dislodge that part of my anatomy for that anatidae, but after having had to de-zoom from 500mm to 200mm and not be able to even focus anymore, I decided to let the Royals have their way. Happily, I came away with a couple of sharp shots.

Lorsque la saison accomplit sa révolution, les couleurs fusionnent et emportent toute mesure dans l'embrasement généralisé. Depuis le pic du Rey, la vue sur les sommets de la vallée d'Ossau et le Pic du Midi est remarquable. Dans ces moments de grande densité, on se demande toujours : "pourquoi faut-il que le temps passe", et, comme le poète supplier : "Ô temps, suspends ton vol !"

"Charm On Demand" Little Venice, London, UK
I did say in the last picture that it would be the last of the sequence. However by popular demand (well 2 anyway) here is another one. This one shows a wave which has hit the Harbour wall and is heading back in the other direction. I am reliably informed by a Kayaking friend, though no doubt experienced in calmer seas, that the turbulent water resulting from waves being pushed back is called clapotis. The official explanation is (A wave which hits a smooth vertical surface such as a harbour wall often bounces off without losing much energy. The lines of incoming waves and outgoing reflected waves make a pattern called clapotis. Where two wave lines intersect, the wave height nearly doubles and the adjoining trough is deeper than usual. Intersecting waves often break in a sharp peak.)
I took this at Newhaven during the peak of Storm Brian on Saturday 21 October. At this point the sky out to sea was really dark with an approaching shower while the sun was still shining near the shore making for perfect lighting. Taken from a safe position on shore with a lens at 210mm. The location is just west of the Newhaven Harbour wall breakwater and with a serious storm massive waves come in from the SW and hit the breakwater.
Storm Brian was strong enough with gusts of 60-70mph to bring down trees. Conditions for Photography were ideal. The peak of the storm came in the middle of the day combining at the same time with an exceptionally high Spring Tide. The weather was sun and showers with the main rain having gone through overnight so the light was good. The location I wanted at Newhaven on the South Coast also had the advantage of a wide and high shingle beach providing a safe location to take pictures even in a fierce storm. This is one of about 1000 pictures I took over about 2.5 hours. With spray going well inland and showers I used a waterproof cover for the camera though the lens needed frequent cleaning. I would estimate that there were a good 30 other photographers there
The picture was taken with a Sony A700 with a Minolta 75-300mm zoom at 210mm. Taken handheld (No chance of a steady tripod in those conditions). Processed first in Camera Raw and then in Topaz Denoise and then Topaz Adjust and Clarity for more detail. Mono conversion with Topaz B&W Effects
