It wasn't until I was in college that I discovered there was more than one type of delegate in primary elections. When I asked people at the polls yesterday if they knew about different delegates most were unaware, so, what's the difference? Well, just think of it this way: Super delegates (as Democrats call them) or, in the Republican case, "unpledged" delegates are usually current and former elected officials appointed by their party that have absolute freedom to vote for any candidate, while standard delegates (ie: regular Joes like me who go through an application process) must vote for the candidate they committed to at an earlier date.
