The Aegidienkirche was not rebuilt and its ruins were kept as a WWII memorial.

The church was built in the 14th century in the centre of Hanover, succeeding a chapel, and a Romanesque church built in 1163. The western wall of that church is partly extant. The church was dedicated to Saint Giles, one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. The present Gothic building was built in 1347 of sandstone from the Deister. The Reformation in Hanover began in this church. The steeple was decorated with a Baroque facade in 1703 to 1711, designed by Sudfeld Vick. The interior of the church was remodeled in 1826 by Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves who used columns from cast iron.

We don't have mountains in Hannover and the highest point in this nearby chain of hills is 405 m so I'm certainly no mountain person :o)

Spätherbstlicher Buchenwald

This is Pholiota squarrosa, commonly known as shaggy scalycap growing from a

tree stump in Deister, germany. From a two day shroom photo tripp. I gave the background some texture with f5.6, because i wanted to make the forrest more guessable.

Update, i think this is more likely Pholiota Flammans / FeuerschĂĽpplinge.

Mushrooms often have humorous names. In german grammar we are allowed to combine as many words as we want to one word, we call this one Laubstreukäsepilzchen. If you were allowed to do the same in english, these would be leavesscattercheasemushroomys. It is a diminutive form of four words.

Once upon a time, bizarre tree shapes grew in the SĂĽntel and Deister.

But the Buchenheister

was considered the work of the devil.

They burned the Struwelpeter beeches to ashes.

They are now rare and unknown, with only a few remaining in this country.

Today, you have to search for them.

(Wikipedia)

Last weekend spent two days in Springe, a lovely small town at the bottom of the hills called 'Deister'

The Deister is a chain of hills in the German state of Lower Saxony, about 15 mi (25 km) southwest of the city of Hanover.

The chain is well-wooded and abounds in game, and the beautiful weather attracted me for a long walk.
