"Gravity & Growth "
"The story of the "Magic Money Tree",named "Gravity and Growth", by the Italian artist Giuseppe Penone who is one of the leading representatives of the “Arte Povera” movement.
Gravity and Growth is a sculpture made of bronze and granite with a cluster of gilded leaves. It measures 17.5 metres in height and it is soaring above real chestnut trees at the entrance to the ECB headquarters. It is not about decorating the headquarters,it is about helping the cultural world.
Giuseppe Penone's tree conveys a sense of stability and growth and it is rooted in the Humanist Values of Europe.
Some try to keep it Upright and some others to see it Prone ...
In any case, click on the image to enlarge it and collect some gold leaves before it's too late ...
I have also collected some seeds,I am just looking for fertile soil to cultivate the species ...
PS: Here,I display it in a "German angle or Canted angle" for the story telling and to portray unease with "Gravity" in mind ...

This was my view on my drive to work on the morning of Monday, 20 November 2006 at about 7.15 am. Some things just need to be photographed.

I once asked a neighbor if he ever plans to sell his car, an older model Cadillac that he keeps in immaculate condition. He laughed and said he intended to be buried in the car. His attachment was obvious and his answer predictable. I think he felt the car somehow defined him. I was thinking yesterday about the images that define us as photographers. Suppose Flickr instituted a policy whereby you could post only a single photo. Would you have one in mind? It's rhetorical I suppose but it does make you think. It brought to mind my session with Jill in this windswept cornfield back in October. We were almost frantic in the days leading up to the shoot knowing that the corn might be harvested at any moment and our opportunity would be lost. Little did we know that the corn would linger until just yesterday, December 11. I passed by this field and noticed it had been reduced to stubble as the harvesters had cut down the stalks the night before. The corn had served its purpose, both for this and subsequent shoots. But I was still hit with a moment of wistful sadness that the scene had been destroyed. Same feeling I get when a favorite abandonment is demolished. Anyway I came across this image while looking back through the session folder. While several different poses were developed, it was this scarecrow scene that I had pictured in my mind for some years beforehand. We worked up to this moment gradually with several preliminary poses. When the moment finally arrived and Jill took her position in the cornfield with outstretched arms, my heart was literally racing. The realization of my vision was electrifying. Determined not to blow this, I shot from many angles, not knowing what would work best. At one point, while balancing atop a wobbly stepladder, I pulled out my smartphone to shoot some quick video sequences. In a moment of inspiration (or guidance from the universe) I switched the iPhone to still picture mode and fired off a few frames. Just as my neighbor views his Cadillac, I think this single frame defines me as a photographer. If I'm ever asked to exhibit just a single photo, this is the one.

Perry Sandhills - Australia. According to geologists, the Perry Sandhills originated after an ice age (40,000 years ago) and are formed by wind erosion over thousands of years. Skeleton remains of giant mega-fauna (kangaroos, lions, emus and wombats) have been found there. Replicas of these animals are now on show at the Pioneer Museum in Wentworth. Aboriginal tribes used this area to camp and hunt. Evidence of this is still being uncovered as the sands drift.

feb 24, 2015 update:
this image of mine has done well. since I posted it on flickr in 2007 it has had 143,000 views, 983 faves, and 313 comments.
My old Kodachrome slides ended up in a shoe box in the back shed (of somebody elses house).
I never imagined that one of my pictures would be seen by that number of people around the planet. I'm humbled.
To me this is success as a visual communicator.
I'm happy with that. thanks to all who have stopped to look at my pictures, faved, commented, writen me a testimonial, or been my friend. I hope you gained something. I know I have.

This is Saleem. He and his family are immigrants to Australia from Sudan. They came here to make a new life but life seems not to be the dream they hoped for here.
He wants to be a pro photographer or maybe a bricklayer and take some skills gained in Australia back to his homeland and try to make a new life there.
I met Saleem while photographing the streets of Melbourne in December 2006.
In this shot he posed for me on the hood of his car.
Yes, there is a story here if there ever was one. A man and his dreams. I related to Saleem in a way that men who dream know each other. I wish Saleem and his family all the best and hope he can realise his dreams.
What I give form to in daylight is only one per cent of what I have seen in darkness.
