“Nostalgia is denial - denial of the painful present… the name for this denial is golden age thinking - the erroneous notion that a different time period or place is better than the one one’s living in - its a flaw in the romantic imagination of those people who find it difficult to cope with the present.”

I took this image of my niece while I was playing around with the 'effects' mode in my camera. There's always something fun to do or try out when you have a camera close by.
Vorrei imparare dal vento a respirare, dalla pioggia a cadere
Dalla corrente a portare le cose dove non vogliono andare
E avere la pazienza delle onde di andare e venire
Ricominciare a fluire
per me
per me
Succede anche se il vento porta tutto via con sè
Vivendo
Ricominciare a fluire
Tiromancino, "Imparare dal vento"
Faded
Do you remember?
Promises of yesterdays
Feelings stranded
Time flies
No regrets…was it a mistake?
Only desperate hopes
Who was hurt? Please tell me…
Despite how much the struggle
For a possibly perfect tomorrow
Like a candle light that shivers
Upon the ledge of our dreams
Let me keep a faded picture
As we wait once more for another place, another time

"I am a amalgam!"
The sign made it most easy to approach the man on in a folding chair on State Street today. As part of a project for his class back in Bowling Green, Ohio was to meet new people and listen their stories. It seemed only fitting for Salem (like the city in Massachusetts) and I to meet and come to the realization that we are all just one being. Madison is city number 19 on his list, and I was his second "story" of the day. For me opening was easy enough, I am Chris "the picture a day guy" documenting daily life on the isthmus one photo at a time. Not because it's a chore, but because it's become a habit. Over the last 5 going on 6 years, I've met all sorts of interesting people with most interesting stories. Salem was very much so the type of person who listens without judgement, as I often do; in turn he had nice comfortable chairs for his story tellers.
As we talked outside the Comedy Club, I felt so at ease as I just let my story flow out of me just as freely as the oxygen flows. Even though summer is just around the corner and school is out, Salem told me that his project of getting stories isn't done yet. Upon asking "When will it be done?" he informed me that "it's never done." A life traveling around the country from city to city, learning stories with no injustice towards another's life or situation is awesome. Much like me striving to better myself EVERYDAY for the rest of my life, with photos of course.
He expressed that upon asking someone in Columbus, Ohio what their story was; they met with an objection and asked the same question to him. This is where amalgam comes in, Salem expressed that he is many things. A listener, a thinker, a man of the stars, a man who wonders about the great beyond. But most of all, these things are come together to make him who is today. To which he cried out "I AM AN AMALGAM!" Before we parted ways, I took a photo of him for the 100 strangers and my 100 more strangers project. I think it would have been awesome to trek from East coast to West coast with Salem. Alas my day job keeps me from taking months off at a time, maybe someday I'll have the freedom to venture further outside the isthmus. Until that happens, I am Chris Collins the local paparazzi!

(by definition an amalgam is a noun meaning a mixture or blend.)
I caught cadeva when she was
"To be? or... not to be? Uhmm.... Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune... Or... or... Or to take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing end them? Uhmmm... To die... to sleep...
No more! and by a sleep to say we end the heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks! Mmm... That flesh is heir to... uh... 'tis a consummation devoutly to be wish'd.
Uhmm...To die, to sleep... mmm... To sleep. Uhm... Perchance to dream.
There's the rub!
For in that sleep of death... of death... what dreams may come when we have shuffled off this mortal coil must give us pause...uhm... there's the respect that makes calamity of so long life;
Fooooor... who would bear the whips and scorns of time? uh? The oppressor's wrong!! The proud man's contumely, the pangs of despised love, the law's delay, the insolence of office and... and... And the spurns that patient merit of the unworthy takes! uh hu!
When he himself might his quietus make with a.. .uhm... bare bodkin? who would fardels bear, to grunt and sweat under a weary life... but that the dread of something after death.. mmm... the undiscover'd country from whose bourn no traveller returns puzzles the will aaaaaand... makes us rather bear those ills we have than fly to others that we know not of? Uhmmmm.....
Thus... conscience does make cowards of us all!!!!
And thus the native hue of resolution Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought, aaand.... aaand... enterprises of great pith and moment with this regard their currents turn awry, and lose the name of action!!!. Yes!
Soft you now, Cadeva! Soft-you-now!... He's taking you a picture!"
She was reaaaaallly deep thinking!

I've no idea where this apple comes from. It could be locally grown here in Norway, but then again it might as easily have been picked in an orchard in Spain or Argentina, or anywhere else for all I know, and transported halfway across the world to end up in my hand. (I'm making a point of not checking the other apples in the bowl for telltale stickers. I prefer, for the moment, the sense of mystery.) This apple may well have grown on a tree in a country that I've never been to, in a town that I've never heard of. The nutrients within it came from the soil upon which that apple tree stood, soil which in turn had been fed with compost from plants and animals that, in their turn, had fed and grown on the same land. It was hydrated by local rains and groundwater. I'm about to eat a portion of a completely different part of the world, and by doing so I become a little more that part of the world myself. With every apple or grape, and every other item that I eat and drink, which come from elsewhere in the world, my earthly being is the sum of an international conglomerate of bits and pieces of other countries and cultures.
It makes me wonder if other people think the same before they take the first bite of an apple.

I think he was in deep search about where we are heading now. I took this shot on Independence Day of Pakistan. This old man was looking at the billboard showing how difficult the partition days were.

sschoepp: What if the data leaks into the sewage?
andersonandersonarchitecture: Never mind the #BigData, here comes the #BigSewage. You're right Scott, so many things to be afraid of in the City, but #RisingWater is the scariest. This is a design for a building that will remain relevant and useful until 2300, when the water is up 14' from current levels.

File picture taken on December 13 during 11th Asean Summit here in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. I think with our current politic scenario here in Malaysia, I thought this moment would be great to share with you. I know like most of you here that our Prime Minister have done a lot of thinking lately...

I love when someone's words are so powerful it makes me analyze my whole being.
It took me a few days to write this one. I knew what I wanted to say but it didn't want to come out right ;). I probably should've just put something simple like I love when someone makes me think. But i am talking about more than just "thinking" here. Analyzing my whole existence...
Why do you waste your time on people who will never change?
Why are you friends with people you really don't like?
Why do you let people get you down that don't mean anything to you?
Why do you stay at a job you really hate?
Why are you angry at something that happened years ago?
Why spend your life fighting things that you CAN'T change?
Learn how to cope....
Learn to forgive....
Learn to hope....
Learn to love...
Learn to dream...
This is YOUR life.
The only one you get.
Make good use of it.
