Sometimes I feel

Like I don't have a partner

Sometimes I feel

Like my only friend

Is the city I live in

The city of ROSES

Lonely as I am

Together we cry

I drive on her streets

'Cause she's my companion

I walk through her hills

'Cause she knows who I am

She sees my good deeds

And she kisses me windy

I never worry

Now that is a lie

I don't ever want to feel

Like I did that day

Take me to the place I love

Take me all the way

I don't ever want to feel

Like I did that day

Take me to the place I love

Take me all the way (yeah yeah)

It's hard to believe

That there's nobody out there

It's hard to believe

That I'm all alone

At least I have her love

The city she loves me

Lonely as I am

Together we cry

I don't ever want to feel

Like I did that day

Take me to the place I love

Take me…

One thought or deed in passing

One last wish carried on a silent wind

Life is a whisper

Heard once and then forgotten

The windmill in front is a Post Mill. This mill was built in 1665 in the city of Huizen (Amsterdam region). The mill was used as a grain mill until 1916. In 1919 the mill was moved to the Netherlands Open Air Museum in Arnhem, making it one of the first acquisitions for the then new museum. The mill is still in regular operation today.

The wndmill in the background is a Towermill or Smockmill.

This mill was built in 1685 in the city of Delft, located between Rotterdam and The Hague. In 1921 the mill was relocated to the Open Air Museum. This windmill is a stone flourmill measuring 27 metres in height. It houses six floors, each of which was used by the miller in his daily work.

A woman cries outside houses damaged by an airstrike in Gorenka, Ukraine, on Wednesday Mar. 2, 2022. This photo is by Vadim Ghirda/AP. I uploaded this photo, and the description, from news.yahoo.com to my Flickr photostream today.

I shared two stories in my latest 'podcast' episode. This, the second one, is bizarre not so much in what happened, but in how it was covered by the press.

You can listen to the full version of the stories anywhere you find podcasts. Just search for Conspiracy of Cartographers.

Susan Cargill's death in 1883 might not have been important enough for local paper, the St. Paul, Nebraska Phonograph, but she her loss certainly had an affect on her family.

Susan and Robert had ten children together, all of whom were still alive when she passed on at the young age of 43.

In 1902, her daughter Margaret died by suicide. The April 9, 1902 issue of the newspaper told all. She had "committed suicide yesterday afternoon by shooting herself through the head with a 22-calibre rife. The deed was done during the absence of her family and was evidently the result of deliberately laid plans."

Margaret had two young children, and sent them "to a neighbor's with instructions not to return for an hour and a half." It's unsaid, but presumed that it was her children who found her body.

The paper printed the note she left her husband, explained where she aimed the gun, and what she was wearing. "No motive for the rash deed is known," concluded the paper, she "had always enjoyed fairly good health."

Margaret's brother, Lewis, took the news the hardest. At 33, he was unmarried and living alone. According to the headline in the May 18th issue of the same newspaper: Louis Cargill Insane.

"It seems that nothing could be done to remove the effect of the sad termination of his sister's life," read the article. He was taken to an insane asylum in Lincoln.

He died on May 26, 1902. A June issue related the news, telling that "his health had failed rapidly as a result of his mental affliction and death came quickly to his relief."

Nature has created an excellent, sophisticated and dynamic ecosystem for all the species living on the earth. Humans have nearly destroyed this ecosystem by reckless vanity. Natural catastrophes like earthquakes, melting of glaciers, floods and havoc rains have caused unprecedentedly disturbing climate changes which are more to come. Of all these self-destruct deeds of humans the most apparent affect is the near extinction of vulture species and spread of obnoxious diseases in humans.

Tatti (Massa Marittima, Grosseto Tuscany Italy)

The church of Santa Maria Assunta

The first documents regarding Tatti date back to the 9th century in the inventories of the bishopric of Lucca. In the 9th and 12th centuries, Tatti is mentioned among the possessions of the Abbey of Sestinga and in the 13th century it is named in the deeds of the Aldobrandeschi possessions. At the beginning of the 14th century it was conquered by Siena and entrusted to the local consortium of the Pannocchieschi di Pietra. In 1322, Nello di Inghiramo ceded his rights to the castle to the Hospital of Santa Maria della Scala of Siena. Subsequently, possession passed to the Malavolti of Siena.

At the beginning of the 15th century, as part of the policy of recovering the direct jurisdiction of the Republic, the latter purchased the rights to the castle from the Malavolti. From this moment on, the fate of the castle will follow that of the Republic.

In Piazza della Cisterna stands the church of Santa Maria Assunta composed of a single nave with a rectilinear apse. The square bell tower is leaning against the masonry. The church, as it appears today, is a reconstruction carried out at the end of the nineteenth century with the expansion towards the front and a new façade in local trachytic stone surmounted by a tympanum.

The origin of the church is however medieval; a document from 1267 recalls the parish church "de Sancta Maria de Tacti". The church is also mentioned in the Gherardini report from the seventeenth century.

14th Sunday in Ordinary Time (07/04/21)

Subject: Oh the Sweet Burden We Carry

Sometimes, as believers, we find ourselves in a lonely place. Our relationship with Jesus Christ is a “sweet burden” that we carry. Why, do I call it a sweet burden? We are surrounded by many distractions that would love to rob us of our faith. The most hurtful situations my come from those closest to us-who feel comfortable criticizing our faith or critiquing our way of life.

In our Gospel reading, Jesus has come to his native place to teach in a familiar synagogue. Jesus in his preaching was probably amongst familiar faces…who where astonished at his preaching. They are aware of his deeds of healing and wisdom. But all of this was overshadowed by their familiarity with Jesus. Is he not a carpenter? Is he not the son of Mary and do we not know many of his family members? So they took offense at him. They shut him down! “A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house.” Jesus was also amazed at their lack of faith. However, this did not stop Jesus and his mission to bring the Kingdom of God to the earth. His rejection by familiar faces did not cripple his journey. Jesus kept moving. We know this because we have the Gospel accounts of his life, death and resurrection.

Maybe we get discouraged because we are the sole believers in our families. Have you witnessed your grown children leave the faith? I think many have! I have seen many grandmothers over the years, taking the responsibility of insuring their grand children receive faith formation.

We carry with us the burden of what others expect from us. Sometimes those closest to us expect that we live up to what they consider the Christian way. Understandably, since we are all broken, our family and friends, will always be in a position to judge our performance, by a criteria that is stunted and juvenile. What they fail to understand is that our faith carry’s us…even with the knowledge that we too are broken…we understand that we are loved. When we fail, as we often do…we raise our heads and continue to walk with our shepherd-Jesus Christ. I am reminded of a scripture where Paul says in Romans 5:

1.Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3 More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Because we are believers in Christ, we use him as our model and we do not need to apologize for our chosen journey . The path we have chosen is difficult! We take up our own crosses with courage…a sweet burden it is…and move forward in time knowing that our reward is a “peace beyond understanding”and a hope to see the world through our saviors eyes. Our first and second scripture readings, give us assurance that the followers of God, will always be challenged by unbelievers. The struggles we face to live out our faith collectively contribute to the on going and larger story we call salvation history.

Every Mass we come together, carrying our faith deep within our hearts…knowing full well that we are going to be fed and healed by the bread of life. When Mass ends, we carry Christ through the doors, where we will encounter others that are waiting to encounter Christ in us…may we live up to what Jesus expects from his disciples.

Lying halfway between Lisbon and Oporto in the Beiras region of central Portugal, venerable Coimbra nestles on the banks of the River Mondego in dignified glory. Famed for its university - the oldest in the country - and a fantastic collection of handsome churches, serene monasteries, and lively cultural institutions, Coimbra is also a busy commercial hub with its many shops, boutiques, and appetizing choice of cafés and restaurants. No.9 oldest University in the world although originally established in the Portuguese capital in 1290, the University of Coimbra, was relocated a number of times by demanding kings, finally ending up in Coimbra, the country’s third-largest urban center and home to much Roman-era history. With a student community of almost 25,000, the University of Coimbra has been through many radical reforms, and for decades of the 18th century it was the only operating university in Portugal. In 2013, the University of Coimbra was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in recognition of its historical buildings, open courtyard, cultural traditions and stunning city-wide views.

The small but charming Capela de São Miguel aat the University of Coimbra was built in 1517 to replace a former mediaeval private oratory. The project belonged to Marcos Pires although he died in 1521 and his work had to be finished by Diogo de Castilho. The entrance to the chapel is through a neo-classical door made by José de Carvalho in 1780. Inside, the walls of the upper choir and pulpit are covered in 18th-century azulejo panels, made in Coimbra but denoting a Dutch influence. In the nave, the tile covering consists of 17th-century azulejos made in a Lisbon workshop. Visitors should also take note of the baroque organ from 1733, decorated with patterns denoting an oriental influence.

This very little insects helps a lot in spreading flowers everywhere.

This my look as one of what is called "little good deeds." Are these "little good deeds" are really little?

What the insect does here is spreading pollen everywhere. Is this little? Sure it is not.

So do not belittle good deeds.

Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) said:

“Do not think little of any good deed, even if it is just greeting your brother with a cheerful countenance.”

You can find this saying of the Prophet here in addition to others:

Almighty God's Word "How to Serve in Harmony With God’s Will"

www.holyspiritspeaks.org/videos/what-service-is-after-god...

Introduction

Almighty God says, "If you wish to serve God’s will, you must first understand what kind of people are beloved by God, what kind of people are loathed by God, what kind of people are made perfect by God, and what kind of people are qualified to serve God. This is the very least that you ought to be equipped with. Moreover, you should know the aims of God's Work

, and the work that God shall do in the here and now. After understanding this, and through the guidance of God's words , you will first enter, and first receive God’s commission. When you actually experience based upon God’s words, and when you truly know God’s work, you will be qualified to serve God. And it is when you serve Him that God enlightens your spiritual eyes, and allows you to have a greater understanding of His work and see it more clearly. When you enter this reality, your experiences will be more profound and real, and all those who have had such experiences will be able to walk among the churches and provide to their brothers and sisters, each side drawing on the strengths of the other to make up for their own deficiencies, and gaining a richer knowledge in their spirits. Only after achieving this effect will you be able to serve God’s will and be made perfect by God in the course of your service."

This shot shows a Leucophora satellite fly leaving an Andrena nigroaenea nesting burrow on the garden rockery. I presume it had laid an egg or eggs whilst it was down there. What surprises me is that the mining bee was inside the burrow at the time - I watched her go in, closely followed by the fly.

Large numbers of these flies have been hanging around the nest burrows. They watch out for anything flying towards the colony and follow it. I've seen them following Nomada and Osmia as well as their hosts. I have also seen some spectacular aerobatics by returning Andrena that are being followed by flies that sometimes manage to lose the kleptoparasite.

Settle in, this is going to be a long one! And you don't have to read it... but I find that sometimes getting the thoughts out of my head is helpful!

I thought this week was going pretty well. I was starting to think that in this messed up world there is still some hope. On the 4th of July, as I have done for several years in the past before Covid, I will be running (jogging, walking, struggling through) a 5K around the Statue of Liberty. I do this for two reasons; because the 4th of July is my favorite holiday and I love being surrounded by people dressed in crazy red, white and blue bedazzled attire in a special place, and more importantly, because the run benefits Special Olympics NJ and gives me a chance to participate in something good. On my fundraising page, I offer my friends, family and co-workers the chance "to be heroes" (that sounds much nicer than begging them for their monetary support of my favorite charity!) and as they have done so many times before, they stepped up and together we will be donating enough money to Special Olympics to send more than 50 Special Olympic athletes to the Fall Games. Some of these people are parents that my kids (now in their 30s) played soccer with back in middle school and I hope it makes them feel as good as it makes me feel to do some good in this world where all the news seems so bad. I could go on and on about this topic, thankfully, I won't!

Next, one of my friends at work had her beloved cat that she had for over 20 years pass away and she opened her home and heart to new kitten from a shelter, only to find out shortly afterward that the poor little thing has a heart defect that will cause it to slowly die of heart failure within 1-2 years, unless she can get it medical help which will cost $8000. Not having that kind of money, she was brave enough to put up a "go fund me" page to help raise the funds to save her kitty. I say "brave enough" because there has been plenty of talk about this being ridiculous... it's just a cat... just get another cat ...who spends that kind of money on a cat, etc... and I understand that everyone is entitled to their opinions and that is fine. Me, I took one look at that kitten's face and hit the DONATE button. And... I was not alone. Within 5 days, she has raised half of the money that she needs... not just from friends and family.... but from complete strangers... and I am thinking... well, look at that... maybe people ARE good afterall. That's the beauty of it, yes... it is a lot of money, but if a LOT of people come together to help, anything is possible... isn't that the way it is supposed to be? People helping others? Hmmmm...Faith in people slowly being restored. YeY!

Two weeks ago I went to the abandoned farm that I love and fixed a barn door that was hanging off the rolling hinges on top, figuring that if I didn't, it would end up breaking off, and I didn't want that to happen, because it's such a good spot for photos and because the old barn has stood for so many years that sometimes it just deserves a little help. So, I dragged a step ladder out there and struggled to get it back on the track. Tonight I went back there again to take another version of a photo that I took a couple of years ago, only to find that someone has now started ripping the barn wood off of the side of the barn. I couldn't even believe it. So, I walked around the back of the barn to see if there was any other damage and that's where I found that they had also dumped a mattress and boxspring. I realize that I do not own this property and technically I am trespassing there as well, but I would never break anything, ruin anything, dump anything.... etc. Last week, I found that someone had spray painted in red "Time to float" on the front of the beautiful old stone farmhouse. I tried to sand that off, and tried to get it off with a wire brush, with no success and will probably have to carefully paint over it if I want to make it go away. So, I am right back to square one, thinking that this world is pretty broken and that the good that is left is not going to be enough to overcome the bad people that are thinking only of themselves or pointing fingers and blaming others and telling them that they are wrong and stupid.... because that's all we hear about.... no one hears about the people that care whether a special needs individual is going to get to experience the thrill of being a part of a team or the people that think that a kitten that is loved deserves to live a healthy life for more than a year or two.... so that's why I am telling you... so you know... that these people are out there... quietly doing good without looking for attention and headlines... and thank God for that! ( I feel a little bit better now. Thanks! )

The words really exist, which does not have a name does not exist. The word light exists, the light does not exist.

Approximative translation

Founded in 1806, Holy Trinity Church is one of the oldest Lutheran congregations in Ohio. Many of its founding members were born prior to the Revolutionary War. The church's records are among the earliest in Stark County.

Johannes Stauch, a circuit rider in the Ohio-Pennsylvania area, visited the Stark County area on a regular basis, both for preaching and for organizing the German speaking setlers into congregations. It was Stauch who organized Holy Trinity in 1806 in the cabin of Jacob Loutsenhaiser.

The original house of worship was a log cabin erected in 1809 on the site of the present Warstler Cemetery, The church cemetary ground was officially deeded to the congregation by Henery Warstler's heirs in 1814.

As the congregation grew. A larger church in the Greek Revival style was buit in 1840 across the road from the cemetery. When that too was outgrown, the present building was erected in 1899. The building was moved off its foundaton by a tornado shortly after it was built (1911). It was deemed sound and continues to be used to the present time. A 20 by 38 ft annex was built adjoining the church and dedicated on October 11 1936.

Due to continual growth the congregation approved the most recent expansion plan in 1977 and saw completion in 1980 of another annex and a larger worhip area. A major construction project completed in 2001 added educational classrooms, the family life center and new administrative offices.

Services were conducted in German until 1835, when English was also accepted in the worship by the congregation. In the 1920's the congregation was instrumental in founding the first Synod in the state of Ohio. Holy Trinity was a member of the United Lutheran Church in America (ULCA) and later the Lutheran Church in America (LCA) before a major merger of Lutheran bodies created the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) in 1988.

Since the early 1800's Holy Trinity Lutheran Church has grown and flourished. Although the congregation is richly blessed with history and tradition, it continues to be a forward-looking congregation with a variety of programs and a young and creative profile. Pastor Steve Kimm has guided Holy Trinity since 1994.

A Suffragette poem... Pixievic Feb 2016

Warriors

Deeds not words!

They cried in their protest

Marching on Parliament

Intent on their quest

to the corrupt politicians

who recorded their struggle

but denied them the vote

and left them to juggle

their lives that equalled

less than their brothers

where they had no rights

not even as mothers.

As wives they were thwarted

their wages, their spouses,

they worked long hard hours

and still kept their houses.

Tea on the table,

washing hung out

the children looked after,

to their husbands - devout.

They stood up for their choices

the injustice they faced

were imprisoned & tortured

and fired in disgrace.

Children were taken

away from their mothers

who were labelled as mad,

their opinions were smothered.

Yet still they continued

to rally & fight,

secure in the knowledge

that they deserved rights

that equalled the men

that ruled their world -

So they took up arms

and fists were curled.

When one was killed

that brave young girl

who in front of a horse

her body she hurled.

"Votes for Women"

her banner announced,

so simple & honest

the message pronounced

to hundreds of people

who just stood & stared.

As her breath left her body

the women prepared

to fight their fight,

be true to their cause,

take down the men

and change the laws.

So thank you to those

brave women of old

who did what they did

without being told.

We now have the right

as women, to fight

without risk to our freedom

and stand up for our rights!

España - Coruña - María Pita

ENGLISH:

María Mayor Fernández de Cámara y Pita (1565–1643), known as María Pita, was a heroine in the defense of Coruña, northern Spain, against the English Armada attack, an English attack upon the Spanish mainland in 1589. She was born in Sigrás.

On the 4th of May 1589, English forces, already in control of the lower city, breached the defenses of the old city. María Pita was assisting her husband, an army captain manning the defenses, when he was killed by a crossbow bolt that struck him in the head. An English soldier with a banner, who was making his way to the highest part of the wall, was killed by Pita. She appeared on the heights of the wall herself, shouting: Quen teña honra, que me siga ("Whoever has honour, follow me!") whereupon the English incursion was driven back by the defenders. The English later abandoned the siege and withdrew to their ships. Other women also participated directly in the defense of Coruña; a surviving record tells of one Inés de Ben receiving treatment for two shots received in the siege. Pita's heroic deeds were honoured and rewarded by Philip II, who granted her the pension of a military officer, which she received following the death of her husband who was killed during the battle.

4 am. Finally finished editing, much to my shock at this rather foolish sleep deprivation. Anyway, this is probably my least favorite scene from "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom." Indiana Jones, Willie Scott, and Short Round witness a truly "heart-wrenching" scene.

More vignettes to come!

As always, a big thanks to the HP builders for inspiration.

Deep within the echoes of immortal whispers and forgotten bloodlines lies the Vampire Pantheon, a creation so hauntingly exquisite it beckons even the darkest souls to kneel in awe. Crafted by the masterful Nocturna Deed, this otherworldly artifact embodies the essence of eternal night, where the line between predator and deity blurs. Each detail is steeped in gothic elegance, from the intricate carvings reminiscent of ancient runes to the faint glow that seems to pulse like a heartbeat of the abyss. Dare to bring this relic into your lair, and you may find yourself consumed by the secrets it holds—secrets that may awaken powers long buried in the dust of time.

But beware: the Vampire Pantheon is not merely a decoration for your dark sanctum; it is a summoning. It calls forth the essence of the forgotten pantheon, a congregation of vampiric spirits who crave devotion and blood-soaked oaths. Are you prepared to bear the weight of their gaze and the unrelenting demand of their ancient hunger? If so, step into the shadows and claim your destiny. Available now at the December round of the Progeny Mall, this is your chance to embrace the darkness and ascend to a power that echoes through eternity.

And the Deed is Done - Gooden's Nomad bee (Nomada goodeniana) exiting the nest hole of a Buffish Mining Bee (Andrena nigroaenea) North Antrim, April 2021.

Nomads are the cuckoos of the bee world. It is a cleptoparasitic species. They do not collect their own pollen, instead they lay their eggs in the nest of their hosts. When they hatch the nomad larvae then use their mandibles to kill all other eggs and larvae in the nest and feed on the collected pollen, to then emerge the next year.

Gooden's Nomad is a priority species in Northern Ireland and considered endangered in Ireland. It is fantastic to have it, and it's host, which is also a priority species, appearing to be doing well in an urban setting in Ballycastle.

"How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world" ~William Shakespeare

"The Doom of the Noldor" captures the tragic saga of a once-proud elven kin, whose fates are sealed by their own deeds and desires. Their story unfolds in a series of poignant images, chronicling the Noldor's fall from grace and their relentless pursuit of redemption through ages of Middle-earth. Each frame is a silent testament to their valor, their sorrows, and the inexorable curse that overshadows their epic journey.

Poem:

Beneath the starlit dome they stood,

Proud Noldor, fair and wise and good,

Their eyes alight with fervent flame,

Yet doomed to mourn their kingdom's name.

For in their hearts, a secret fire,

Of fierce revenge and dark desire.

Against the dark, their swords they raised,

But in their kin, discord was blazed.

The jewels they sought, with lustful eyes,

Became the root of their demise.

The oath they swore, so dire, so deep,

Ensured their grief was theirs to keep.

Through battles fought and kinships torn,

Their fate was sealed, their futures worn.

The Noldor marched to grievous tunes,

Under the watch of silent moons.

Haiku:

Shadows of the Noldor,

Fate's heavy chain, honor lost,

Dusk falls on the brave.
