The Virginia National Guard dedicated the South Boston readiness center to the memory of the late Maj. Gen. Carroll Thackston, former Adjutant General of Virginia, during a ceremony held July 13, 2013. Thackston, the Adjutant General of Virginia from July 1994 to September 1998, passed away Feb. 17, 2013, at Lynchburg General Hospital at the age of 79. He served as the mayor of South Boston from 2004 until his passing. Former Governor George Allen, Secretary of Public Safety Marla Graff Decker, Virginia Senator Frank Ruff, former delegate and retired judge Frank Slatyon and Maj. Gen. Daniel E. Long, Jr., the Adjutant General of Virginia, joined the Thackston family, Virginia Guard Soldiers and Airmen and members of the South Boston community in remembering Thackston's dedicated service to community, commonwealth and country. Ross Craig (1926-2012) was a local historian born in Stockton and dedicated much of his life promoting and conserving the history of Stockton, NSW. He possessed a wealth of knowledge about the suburb and was a founding member of the Stockton Historical Society and co-editor of its magazine. Pat Craig supported her husband’s passion for history, and together they made a great contribution to the Stockton and Newcastle communities. Abbey founded 750 and dedicated to Saint Ouen in 1126
Present Style: Gothic, Flamboyant
Begun in 1318 finished 1537
• famous for architecture and its large, unaltered Cavaillé-Coll organ, which has once been described as "a Michelangelo of an organ" by Charles-Marie Widor.
• Built on a similar scale to nearby Rouen Cathedral, it is, along with the Church of Saint-Maclou, one of the principal Gothic monuments of Rouen.

The church was originally built as the abbey church of Saint Ouen for the Benedictine Order, beginning in 1318 and interrupted by the Hundred Years' War and sacked and badly damaged during the Harelle.
The foundation of St. Ouen's Abbey has been variously credited, among others, to Clothair I and to St. Clothilda, but evidence is scanty. It was dedicated at first to St. Peter when the body of St. Ouen, Archbishop of Rouen (d. 678), was buried there; the name of St. Peter and St. Ouen became common and finally St. Ouen only. The history of the abbey, on record from the 1000, is unremarkable; a list of abbots is in Gallia Christiana XI, 140. In 1660 the monastery was united to the Congregation of St. Maur, and when suppressed, in 1794, the community numbered twenty-four. The abbey building itself was vacated by the time of the French Revolution and was subsequently occupied by the Town Hall of Rouen.[12]
The central crossing is surmounted by an unusual lantern-style tower similar to that at Ely Cathedral in England.

well-preserved C15-C16th stained glass of the nave dates to the 15th and 16th centuries, and features jewel tones among panels of clear and frosted white glass. These materials allow more light to filter into the nave, creating a brighter interior than is typical of Gothic churches. Despite the use of Flamboyant tracery in the aisles, triforium, and clerestory, the nave maintains a conservative appearance through the use of compound piers, trumpet bases, and capitals which helps maintain harmony throughout the edifice. The west façade was never completed during the Middle Ages. It was constructed between 1846 and 1851 in a Neo-Gothic style that bears little resemblance to the original Late Gothic designs.
Phanom Rung or, with its full name, Prasat Hin Phanom Rung or Phanom Rung Stone Castle, or Prasat Phnom Rong in Khmer, is a Khmer temple complex 1,320 feet ( 400 metres ) above sea level, in Buri ram province in the Issan region of Thailand. It was built in sandstone and laterite in the 10th to 13th centuries. It was a Hindu shrine dedicated to Shiva, and symbolises Mount Kailash, his heavenly dwelling. Thailand's Department of Fine Arts spent 17 years restoring the complex to its original state from 1971 until 1988. On 21 May 1988, the park was officially opened by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. In 2005, the temple was submitted to UNESCO for consideration as a future World Heritage Site.
Phanom Rung is one of Thailand's most amazing Khmer architecture site, aged over a thousand years old. Built on an extinct volcano, it was originally a Hindu religious site and later became a Buddhist one. Several additions were made during the 15th-18th Buddhist century. The first thing noticed on arrival is a grand stairway from the foot of the hill up to the top. Most of the sanctuary buildings are made of laterite and sandstone, all with elaborate designs. The buildings are lined all the way to the main pagoda whose layout is according to Hindu belief of the layout of God Shiva’s heaven.
The large main pagoda has a square base facing the East. Exquisite designs on the pagoda, columns, doorway, and lintels tell a story of Hindu gods. Each building features descriptive motifs reciting a purpose of its construction, functionality and beliefs of ancient people. Based on these intricate designs and architecture, it is surmised that the pagoda, the stairway and the Naga Bridge were all built during the 17th Buddhist century.
After the three-levelled lower stairway, the visitor finds himself/herself on the first cruciform platform with a first peak at the main temple. On the right, northward, is Phlab Phla or the White Elephant House. The pavilion is believed to be the place where kings and the royal family would change attire before rituals. Royalty would then enter the Processional Walkway, one of the most impressive elements of the park. It is 160 meters long and bordered by seventy sandstone posts with tops of lotus buds. The Walkway itself is paved with laterite blocks.
The Walkway leads to the first of three naga bridges. The five-headed snakes face all four directions and are from the 12th century. This bridge represents the connection between heaven and earth. The naga bridge leads to the upper stairway, which is divided into five sets. Each set, has terraces on the sides. The last terrace is wide, made with laterite blocks. It has a cruciform shape and four small pools. A couple more steps lead to the second naga bridge. It has the same shape as the first one, only smaller. In the middle the remains of an eight petaled lotus carving can be seen.
This final terrace leads to the outer gallery. It probably used to be a wooden gallery with a tiled roof, but only a raised floor of laterite remains. After the outer gallery one reaches the inner gallery, which is divided in long and narrow rooms. It served as a wall around the principal tower. This last gallery leads to the third and last naga bridge, another small copy of the first one.
The bridge leads you directly into the main sanctuary. After the antechamber and the annexe, one reaches the principal tower. Double porches lead out in all directions. The inner sanctum used to have the inga, the divine symbol of Shiva. Currently, only the somasutra remains which was used to drain water during religious rites. The entrances have various lintels and icons depicting Hindu religious stories, e.g. the dancing Shiva and the five Yogi's. The southern entrance is guarded by a sandstone statue.
Apart from the main tower, other buildings in the compound are:
Two brick sanctuaries built around the 10th century, northeast of the tower.
The minor sanctuary southwest of the tower with a sandstone altar for a sacred image. It was built with sandstone in the 11th century. Prang Noi has only one entrance facing east. The sanctuary is square with indented corners, giving it a round feel.
Two Bannalai southeast and northeast of the principal tower. The buildings are rectangular and have only one entrance. They were built in the last period, around the 13th century, and used as a library for holy scriptures.

The Village of Pinehurst, N.C. dedicated General George Catlett Marshall Park and Monument at grounds recently prepared near the Pinehurst Golf Resort. Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, chief of staff of the U.S. Army provided the keynote address. Odierno joined Pinehurst Mayor Nancy Roy Fiorillo in laying a wreath at the newly dedicated monument. General of the Army George C. Marshall Was the Army Chief of Staff during World War II; later he served the nation as Secretary of State, President of the Red Cross, and Secretary of Defense. Marshall is also noted for the European Recovery Program in which the United States gave tens of billions of dollars in economic support, starting in 1948, to help rebuild European economies following the devastation of World War II. The plan became known as 'The Marshall Plan.' His post war work earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953. Marshall originally hailed from Pennsylvania; when he retired from military and public service, he and his wife settled in Pinehurst, N.C. The Fort Bragg headquarters of U.S. Army Forces Command is named Marshall Hall in honor of Gen. Marshall. Gen. Mark A. Milley, FORSCOM commanding general, Maj. Gen. Jimmie Jaye Wells, FORSCOM chief of staff, and Command Sgt. Maj. Scott C. Schroeder, FORSCOM command sergeant major, all attended the dedication ceremony.

Sinclair College Opens World’s First Dedicated UAS Indoor Flying Pavilion
Dayton, OH – Sinclair College, home to the National UAS Training and Certification Center, is now home to the world’s first permanent, custom-built unmanned aerial systems (UAS) indoor flying facility following a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 17, coinciding with the 112th anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ first powered flight.
The UAS Indoor Flying Pavilion is the first facility in the world to be constructed and dedicated solely for UAS testing and flight operations. Covering 3,200 sq.ft. and featuring an interior ceiling height of 40 ft., the Pavilion includes a mezzanine flying deck to facilitate testing and instruction, and was constructed to allow GPS signal transmissions to support aircraft navigation.
“The new UAS Indoor Flying Pavilion marks another milestone in aviation and another important step for Sinclair in bringing the most advanced UAS capabilities to the Dayton region,” said Dr. Steve Johnson, President and CEO of Sinclair College. “Through the remarkable partnerships we’ve established, Sinclair is leading the way in what’s being called by industry leaders as the greatest aviation breakthrough since the first manned flight.”
As part of the National UAS Training and Certification Center, the new Pavilion provides space to test out vehicles, sensors and components in a controlled environment, further expanding research and development capabilities. Paired with the Center’s advanced manufacturing and rapid prototyping capabilities, sensor lab, and wind tunnel, the Pavilion will give students the opportunity to take a UAS project from the design phase through production and into flight tests in one location.

• Customizable space supporting sense and avoid and other airspace integration challenges
• Controlled environment for high-risk and destructive testing

Today, we had the heart-breaking honor of laying one of our own warriors to rest.
Hundreds of friends, family members, and state leadership showed their support by lining alongside the road leading up to the facility where the family gathered together.
They presented General Timmons their final salute to her.
Maj. Gen. Carol Timmons dedicated 42+ years of her storied life to her Country, State, Soldiers and Airmen of the Delaware National Guard.
Maj. Gen. Carol Timmons, Delaware’s adjutant general from 2017 to 2019, died August 2, 2020. She was 62 years old. She began her military career in 1977 as an enlisted member in the Delaware Air National Guard, and was laid to rest this afternoon at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

P Bacon P Bacon Brothers
Percy Charles Haydon Bacon (1860-1935) was born in Ipswich the son of a boot closer, a shoemaker who specialised in the stitching of the upper parts of footwear. After his father died the family moved to London, where in 1881 despite his youth and modest origin he described himself as a stained glass artist and was living with most of his family at 65 Charlotte Street. Nothing is known about his training, though it must have been reasonably thorough to leave him in a position to start his own business. By 1892 he had a studio at 11 Newman Street, London, where it continued until 1931. In that year it moved to 4 Endsleigh Gardens, WC1, but disappears from KD/L after 1933. In later years it also operated out of Reading, where the firm lasted until after World War II. In 1901 Bacon called himself artist, painter and sculptor. Percy Bacon is known to have had three brothers in all, but it is unlikely that more than one of these was ever involved with the company, despite the title of Percy Bacon Brothers by which it became known. This was Archibald Arthur Bacon (1865-1943), who described himself in 1901 as an artist and sculptor and in 1911 as an ecclesiastical artist, The two other brothers are altogether less likely; Herbert Joseph (1858-1928) is described as a barman as late as 1911 and the eldest, Frederick Samuel (1849-1933) never left his native county where he was successively a farmer (1881) and an innkeeper (1901). The firm’s work was influenced by C15 glass and displays a liking for elaborate surface decoration and often subdued colouring. Outside artists were sometimes used, including G F Prynne (GFP) and his brother E A F Prynne, whilst Bacon himself worked for other makers, notably J Powell and Sons. There is also evidence of a link with another glassmaker A O Hemming, one of whose designers, R Corbould, collaborated with Percy Bacon’s on both glass and painted decoration at St George, Vancouver Road, Catford (South London) at an uncertain date.
Day 2 at Brands Hatch for the British Truck Racing Championship Season of 2021 and after Some Very Intense Battles and Superb Victories from Each of the Drivers on Saturday it was time Once again for Each Driver to Strap in and Get the Hammer Down.
The Weather Unlike Saturday was Beautiful with a bright Blue Sky during the Morning which no Doubt Lifted a lot of the Drivers Moods after Saturday had seen Very Grey and Overcast Conditions.
With Four British Truck Races Making Up the Largest Portion of the Days Events it will be interesting to see what Each Driver can do and How they Will Have to Preserve their Machinery to make it through Each Race.
With All Drivers Ready Having gotten up Early to do Final Checks and Adjustments to their Respective Cars it was Time to Get to Work and Take to the Race Track for Another Day of High Sped High Adrenaline Fuelled Action around the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit.

In First Place Taking Pole Position and the Fastest Lap was (Alistair Dendy) in his Hyundai Coupe 2000 with a Best Lap Time of 58.735 and a Top Speed of 74.03mph. Brilliant Work from Alistair Really Pushing Hard and Keeping his Car Under Control The Entire Time.
In Second Place was (Wayne Rockett) in his Hyundai Coupe 2000 with a Best Lap Time of 59.123 and a Top Speed of 73.55mph. Amazing Job there Wayne Really Going for it and Pushing Hard.

Now it was the Turn of the Pickup Trucks Championship and with a Large Grid of 20 Light Weight Space Frame Pickup Trucks the Action from Yesterdays Qualifying Proved that This Race for going to be a Very Fast and Hectic One.
During Qualifying Second Fastest Yesterday it was Mark Wilson who Took Pole with Matt Simpson and Tom Jenkins Close Behind him in Second and Third Place. But out of All Three of thease Drivers who will be Brave Enough to Put their Foot Down and Go for it During the Race to take Victory?

Now it was Time for The Penultimate Qualifying and Race of the Day for the Track Day Trophy. Just like with the Previous Track Day Championship Many of the Same cars that Competed Before Also Entered This Race Giving Some Drivers a Second change to Show their Skills and Talents on the Race Track.

Enduro KA -(Qualifying)
After a Long Days Racing and with Night Falling Fast The Headlights of The Enduro KA'S Began to Illuminate the Indy Circuit.
Every Part of the Track was a Wash with Darkness and The Only Thing Illuminating the Way for Each Driver was The Bright Headlights and LED'S Fitted to Each Car with some Teams and Driver Trying their Luck on the KA'S Standard Headlights to Brighten their Way to Victory.
A Silent Hum Came From the Engines as they Raced Around the Indy Circuit with Each Driver Pushing Hard to Set the Fastest Time Possible.
The Tension in the Air was Electrifying as Drivers Danced their Cars Through Traffic and Had Small Battles with One Another Trying to see what their Opponents Tactics were and How Brave each of Them Dare Go in Terms of Pace.

MSVT Trackday Trophy-(Qualifying)
Now it was Time for The Penultimate Qualifying and Race of the Day for the Track Day Trophy. Just like with the Previous Track Day Championship Many of the Same cars that Competed Before Also Entered This Race Giving Some Drivers a Second change to Show their Skills and Talents on the Race Track.
Lets take a Look at Qualifying and See Who will be on Pole This Time.
In First Place Taking Pole Position and The Fastest Lap was The Pairing of (R. Parkin and S. Parkin) in their VW Golf with a Best Lap Time of 53.795 and a Top Speed of 80.83mph. Incredible Work by both of the Parkin Pair as Scott Parkin Previously Won in Super Cup and Now he takes His Second Pole Position of the Day! Brilliant Driving.
In Second Place was (Chris Kirby) in his Caterham 1.6 Super Sport with a Best Lap Time of 53.863 and a Top Speed of 80.73mph. Brilliant Driving there Chris Keeping the Two Parkins on their Toes and Almost Taking Away Pole Position from them by Just 0.068 at The Checkered Flag.
In Third Place was the Pair of (Palk and Pottinger) in their Reno Clio with a Best Lap Time of 54.757 and a Top Speed of 79.41mph. Very Well Done both Palk and Pottinger on a Well Deserved and Defended P3 Finish by Less than a Second to Start on the Second Row for The Race.
A Super Fast and Really Exciting Qualifying Session Once Again with the Pairing of R. Parkin and S. Parkin Taking Pole Position Followed Closely by Chris Kirby in Second Place and Finally The Pairing of Palk and Pottinger in Third Place.
With The Race Just Around the Corner Will it be the Pairing of R Parkin and Scott Parkin Taking Victory Once More or Will a New Challenger Appear to take the Fight right to the Front of the Field?

In First Place Taking the Victory is (R.Parkin and S.Parkin) in their VW Golf with a Best Lap Time of 54.046 and an Average Speed of 74.44mph. What a Dominant Display of Driving from thease Two Drivers in a Class of their Own they Have Managed to Win in Both Trackday Championship and Trackday Trophy. Brilliant Driving Well Deserved.

In Third Place was (Stewart Donavan) in his Toyota Celica with a Best Lap Time of 55.083 and an Average Speed of 73.08mph. Congratulations Stewart P3 and Another New Face on the Podium and a Brilliant Looking Celica too. Fantastic Driving Great Job.

Enduro KA -(Qualifying)
After a Long Days Racing and with Night Falling Fast The Headlights of The Enduro KA'S Began to Illuminate the Indy Circuit.
Every Part of the Track was a Wash with Darkness and The Only Thing Illuminating the Way for Each Driver was The Bright Headlights and LED'S Fitted to Each Car with some Teams and Driver Trying their Luck on the KA'S Standard Headlights to Brighten their Way to Victory.
A Silent Hum Came From the Engines as they Raced Around the Indy Circuit with Each Driver Pushing Hard to Set the Fastest Time Possible.
The Tension in the Air was Electrifying as Drivers Danced their Cars Through Traffic and Had Small Battles with One Another Trying to see what their Opponents Tactics were and How Brave each of Them Dare Go in Terms of Pace.

In Second Place Following Closely Behind by Just 0.261 Seconds was Team (JTR) Elliot Mason / Nick Tandy / David Mason / James Rhodes in their Ford KA with a Best Lap Time of 1:03.106 and a Top Speed of 68.90mph. Superb Job there JTR Fantastic Effort and Really Good Pace to Gain P2 on the Grid for Tomorrow.

Brahmeswara Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, erected at the end of the 9th century CE, is richly carved inside and out. This Hindu temple can be dated with fair accuracy by the use of inscriptions that were originally on the temple. They are now lost, but records of them preserve the information of around 1058 CE. The temple is built in the 18th regnal year of the Somavamsi king Udyotakesari by his mother Kolavati Devi, which corresponds to 1058 CE.
HISTORY
Historians place the temple to belong to the late 11th century as ascertained from an inscription carried to Calcutta from Bhubaneswar. The inscription indicates that the temple was built by Kolavatidevi, the mother of Somavamsi king Udyota Kesari. It was built with four Natyasalas at a place known as Siddhatirtha in Ekamra (modern day Bhubaneswar). The inscription was recorded during the 18th renal year of Udyotha Kesari, corresponding to 1060 CE. Since the inscription is not in its original place, historians indicate the possibility of the reference to another temple, but based on the location and other features specified, it is ascertained that the inscription belongs to the temple. Also, another issue raised by Panigrahi is that the four cardinal temples are Angasalas (associate temples) and not Natyasalas (dance halls) as indicated in the inscription.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple is classified as a panchatanaya temple where apart from the main shrine, there are four subsidiary shrines in the four corners around the temple. The temple on account of its later origin, has perfectly developed structure compared to its predecessors. The vimana of the temple is 18.96 m tall. The temple is built with traditional architectural methods of wood carving, but applied on stone building. The buildings were built in a shape of full volume pyramid, and then they would be carved inside and outside.The basic structure of the Orissan temple has two connecting buildings. The smaller is the Jagmohana, or assembly hall. Behind it is the Shikhara, the towering sanctuary. Later temples have two additional halls in front - one for dancing, and the other for banquets.
The Brahmeswara shows quite a bit of affinity with the much earlier Mukteswar Temple, including the carved interior of the Jagmohana, and in the sculptural iconography such as the lion head motif, which appeared for the first time in the Mukteswara, and is here evident in profusion. There are quite a number of innovations, however, including the introduction of a great number of musicians and dancers, some holding lutes, on the exterior walls. For the first time in temple architectural history iron beams find their first use.
On sandstone walls there are symbolic decorations and the notion of godlike figures that helps the believer in his meditation. The carvings over the door frame contain beautiful flower designs as well as flying figures. Like the Rajarani, there are images of the eight directional Guardian Deities. There are also quite a number of tantric-related images, and even Chamunda appears on the western facade, holding a trident and a human head, standing on a corpse. Shiva and other deities are also depicted in their horrific aspects.
One of the lost inscriptions stated that a Queen Kolavati presented 'many beautiful women' to the temple, and it has been suggested that this is an evidence of the 'Devadasi' tradition, which assumed such importance in later Orissan temple architecture and temple life.
