Chris started growing a beard for Decembeard tin 2014 to support Bowel Cancer UK. It is now Decembeard 2015 and the beard is still there.

When I spoke with Chris he told me of how the experience of fundraising has led him to have a deep desire to help others around him. When he finally shaves off this beard he plans to find other ways to raise money and improve his local community, he was a guy with a real desire to make a difference.

A timelapse movie of last year's Decembeard program.

Was working on my Decembeard again this year and had some fun today taking photos of the final result. This was one of the first test shots, where the second flash did not yet work. But that turned out to be a good thing for a more moody and dark approach. The result looks different on different screens but I can assure you that there is actually detail in all the dark areas. So if you don't see it it is time for a new HDR capable screen... ;-)

Saw the new Star Wars yesterday. Apart from the fact that the whole family went and I had to like it because of my enthusiastic kids I actually did. It is basically the same as always, just bigger and without any anoying puppets. Anyhow it somehow fits well to the current status of my Decembeard project...

"Awesome Facial Hair Bros!!"

Decembeard cuts in straight after Movember.

So all my bearded plastic wonders got together to give this shout out to hirsute gents everywhere.

Have a furry face festive season and a shaggy New Year!

When I set this up I knew that there would be an opportunity to deploy multiple Tony Starks, Klingons, Pirates, Lord Of The RIngs warriors and Iron Man's nemesis...the Mandarin.

Bless those beardy little blokes!

Bemusingly enough I chose to omit the Sanity Claus though....

Usually, for a shot like this, everyone would be brandishing weapons, but I found that they got in the way of the beards. So I disarmed everyone. Well, not quite of course, as Iron Man's weapons are usually integral, and the Mandarin has those cursed rings. Not to mention the Klingons, whose visible weapons you may consficate, but you can never be sure you've collected all the hidden ones. Also, the War Doctor has held onto his sonic screwdriver, which will be most useful if he has to assemble a cabinet at someone.

Beating Bowel Cancer are running their annual Decembeard event. For those who don't have a beard ( and for those who do!) they have also developed #Bubblebeard ! :-)

After the local news station has been telling today that it is now fashionable to wear beards again (is there really no more relevant news around), it became very obvious that this is the one thing that I should probably stop doing. So this is the result of my scissors picture (not all done by myself, I got professional help actually from a barber).

Strobist Info: Two pictures. Each time flashes left and right of camera pointing towards subject. On the right side Flexidome diffusor was used on 580 EX II @1/2. Left 420 EZ @ 1/4.

Strobist: One YN560-IV into a ~50" white reflector umbrella with a sheet over it (i.e. a DIY SoftLighter II), bottom edge around eye level, angled down at 45° camera left and triggered wirelessly by RF-603N II. No bounce, no ambient light.

The new shaver works well, but missed a goatee-shaped bit.

I decided that it is time to change my haircut again and that has nothing to do with this recent shooting.

My 'no shave November': SUCCESS! I look like a hairy cave man now haha! But oh well...hmmmm thinking about taking it to the next level: Decembeard! :D

(Monday, December 1, 2014; around 2ish a.m.)

**Usually when it is cold in December, some men grow a Decembeard to stay warm.

RUUUUUUUUUN!

Before shaving off the Decembeard for good I had to try something out...

Held a Decembeard competition.

Senior Partner, Anne Fairhurst, crowned Senior Systems Engineer Neil Kavanagh the owner of the best beard in the office. Anne presented Neil with a voucher for a cut throat shave and congratulated him on achieving a beard which she thought “most suited him and will be a shame not to see in the New Year!”.

Why not add some festive touch to my decembeard to kick up the holidays with a bang?! This would go nicely with my ugly Christmas sweater xD Merry Christmas, everyone!

Indeed the ugly Christmas sweater has met its match in the tacky holiday season fashion trend department: the decked-out hipster beard, dubiously strung with miniature decorations, ornaments and baubles!

(Pics taken Wednesday, December 24, 2014; around 2:45 a.m.)

According to the Decembeard directive I stopped shaving completely in December. As you can see I do not have a very homogenous beard growth... Time to take up the scissors.

I have to admit I find a certain pleasure in all this hipster shit that is going on...

Playing around with my one flash (as the other one did not work correctly at that moment. It is kinda obvious where the non working one was placed...)

I was challenged to upload a black and white photo a day for 5 days to Facebook last week. Mostly I uploaded old photos that had already been published as b&w's. This one though i went back and revisited an old photo I'd not processed before.

Should have been "Movember" but we preferred "Decembeard"!
