The dune fields on Mesquite Flat are at the bottom of the valley, with Tucki Mountain (left) and the Cottonwood Mountains (right) forming a backdrop
To the right of the dunes, you can just make out the buildings of Stovepipe Wells, as well as a road running up the huge alluvial fan (bajada) towards Towne Pass and out of the valley.
This distinctive hill often stands out in mottled light. A trail named Death Valley Buttes goes up it; I'll look up that trail in Deconnet's Death Valley hiking book to confirm that this landmark is Death Valley Buttes.

I've never stayed at Death Valley, California for more that 30 minutes. I had to refill my gas a few times when I drove by Death Valley on my way to Las Vegas and it was crazy hot. I believe the temperature was around 120F, or 49C, and it felt like I was baked inside an oven. Of course it was during July so I'm pretty certain that's the normal temp. One thing for sure is pray that your car will never fail you here 😁.

My second MO entry, category was to build a silly death. So it was either this or being run over by a bus while playing Pokemon. Eventually I went with this one, nothing baffles me more than reading another piece of news stating that someone died while playing and MMO due to forgetting to rest/eat/drink. Most silly deaths involve a bit of accident; this one on the other hand is sheer stupidity. What's next? Death cause: forgot to breathe?

The summer drought took it's toll. During the month of July, there was 10 days above 107 degrees and 10 more days of temperatures over a 100. Thus a normal growing cycle was reduced by about 45 days. Please view photo on black, believe me there is a big difference.....
