Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

from the time i was born till about the age of 8, i was TERRIFIED of dogs. big or small, i was terrified. i would spot a dog about two blocks away and begin to cry hysterically (seriously, it was bad), demanding that we crossed the street before the dog got any closer.
at the same time, i loved the idea of having a dog thanks to about 1093398 viewings of "Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey".
i don't remember exactly how i outgrew this fear, but i did. puppies <3
(i got a new digital camera for baby jesus' birthday and i'm going to finish this now.)
Wow. Just wow. I’ve hit 1000 followers on Flickr. There are that many people who care about the random table scraps of a twenty-one year old grown man who can’t stop playing with Lego. I never pursued this hobby for numbers, but I can’t help but be amazed that I reached this incredible milestone.
When I said in September that I intended to quit making content for Flickr, I did so out of a sincere commitment to move forward into a new phase of my life. I would spend senior year focusing on the important stuff - relationships, academics, and continued spiritual growth in Jesus Christ. Lego would have no room in such a packed schedule, and I knew that my life would get even busier after college no matter what career path I would choose to take.
However, I am terrible keeping my own promises (just ask my parents) and sometimes I cannot help but feel the urge to build something I read in a comic, saw on TV, or just thought up while fiddling with random parts. I still want to stay committed to a more focused life, so I made a compromise with myself to only post something if I had the time, and to not make it a top priority like I did in the past. Going forward, this means that my upload frequency will be VERY VERY low, if any at all. But if you’re okay with that, I’m okay with that too. :)
And thank you all so much for believing my messy table scraps could become so much more. :)

To celebrate this milestone, I’ve decided to host my first contest! When I first got into Lego, I always wondered why the DC and Marvel sets deviated so far from the core source material. Where were the famous settings - the Daily Planet, the X-Mansion, the Savage Lands? Where were the iconic scenes - Parallax cruelly subduing and recreating the entire DC Universe, the final incursion of worlds before Secret Wars, or the long-awaited wedding of Peter Parker and Mary Jane? Why were the minifigures lineups so repetitive, filled only by endless iterations of Batman and Spider-Man?
So this contest is going to be all about taking your love for DC, Marvel, and Lego to the next level. I’d like people to recreate iconic scenes and locations from DC and/or Marvel Comics, and populate them with the most excellent minifigures you can create. And I’d like people to photograph these creations in the best way they can so that they are absolutely stunning to behold.
I will judge for the aesthetic quality and overall accuracy of the build, which, without being too nit-picky, should recall/replicate at least the most important features of an iconic comic book scene or locations. The build itself CAN be existing, but the submitted photo CANNOT be existing or already on Flickr. Tributes/replications of comic book covers will NOT be accepted as contest entries. I will also judge for the quality of the minifigures, which can fall anywhere on the purist to custom spectrum. And most importantly, I will judge for photography quality. I promise you, there are many, many ways to achieve amazing shots with inexpensive equipment, and (if you want) there are often ways to temporarily acquire better equipment through libraries or even the school you attend if they have a photography department. If you are lacking the editing software, I will let you know that it is very easy to download fully-functional cracked copies of Photoshop and Lightroom from the Internet, free of charge.
I will not be judging by the size of the build, as this would probably be the most unfair criteria (it’s not really possible to “borrow” extra Lego bricks). If the scale you choose fits the scene you are trying to convey, then I won’t hold it against you.
I will be choosing three winners - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The 1st place winner will receive my Phoenix Custom Bricks Arachnid Hero minifigure, because that stupid fig was a darn impulse purchase and I know that many people would love to have one of these for their collection. The 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive any Mighty Micro sets of their choice, and all winners will receive a shout-out, a testimonial, and a likely inclusion in my “The Best” gallery.
On Monday, I will create the Flickr group, “Jonathan’s 1000 Follower Contest” to which all who are interested in entering can submit their entries (you can submit unlimited entries). Entries will be accepted up to Sunday, May 6th at 11:59 PM EST, and the winners will be announced on Saturday, May 16th.
Good luck. :)
The first born, my heart will call Truly
A God-like boy of the sky
The fog hissed away like a movie
And serpents go home for the night
The thundercloud rain hits the freeway
The clowns put on makeup for show
The nightfall, my skin crawl kind of evening
And how the wind she blows
How the wind she blows
I want you to come closer
Come in closer. Come in closer.
I want you to come in closer
Come in closer. Come in closer.
I want you to come in closer, in closer
Come dancing with devils
Need not to know their names
We'll waltz like an army
For the fear of our pain
Our souls become useless
As the day they were born
In a rusted arm rocking chair
Away from your storm
But still, the truth remains lethal
A lie made by man
Where my shoes become hammers
And my words become sand
Like a sour patch, a wedding batch
Of roses you threw across my floor
In the rusted arm rocking chair
Away from your storm

Before (the movie) "The Titanic" .... and for those of the younger group out there ...this song was from the movie "The Poseidon Adventure" ... about a cruise ship on New Year's Eve that gets turned upside down ... and all that ensues with the passengers trying to make it "up" to the bottom of the boat, which is now at the top ... sort of like when life turns upside down, and you find yourself living in an alternate universe ... where everything that used to be so "right" ... is now completely upside down. Or maybe that's just me ... ;)

Why yes....I can!
I can just hear y'all now 'OMG! Elana! No! Look at the poor dog!'
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! is all I have to say to that! :P
I don't like dogs (except pugs...) and I'm not afraid to kick em up the arse.
This really happened
Happy Monday kids :D
My "Ugly Christmas Sweater," designed for Society6. All-over print t-shirts, art prints, and more available at Society6.
I recently acquired some rather special vintage photos of the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake - including this 3 5/8" x 4 5/8" albumen print. No info on the back.
so today is Tom's day 365 ... huzzah, Tom! but guess what? you made us work too hard for today's FGR, so I'm being as stubborn as a bull (or, perhaps, a goat) and doing this my own way. deal with it :P
t h r e e testimonials:
ok, I'm writing more than three, but here are the first three:
1. Maite
2. Julia
3. Kim
-- three of my favorite girls on flickr!
ALSO doing them for Amanda, Emily, Annie, Wayne, and Jim - since they were all nice enough to write ones for me. Oh ya, and I guess I'll do one for you too, Tommy. ;)
s i x groups
1. fgr duh
2. happy sunday!
3. funny faces (you'll have to trust I was making a funny face, or at least count the goat's face as funny because he's a goat and a bit odd eh?)
4. presents gone wrong: a boyfriend bought me the goat... his name is Goatee... I actually love him because goats are my favorite animals next to penguins, so it didn't go wrong, but the relationship did! hee :)
5. ugly underwear club: boy shorts. 'nuff said.
6. five funny things...
f i v e things you don't know about me
1. when I was 3 years old, I only responded to the name Mr. Television
2. I'm a Mets fan. if you don't find that funny, you obviously know nothing about baseball
3. I can put both feet behind my head and sorta move around by wobbling on my bum/tailbone
4. my right foot has a bone that sticks out far (below my big toe) and stretches out all of the shoes for my that foot, and at least once a week I will be walking, minding my own business, and a shoe (if it is just a flat, ballet shoe - usually my shoe of choice) will fly off
5. I named my dog Ollie, a maltese-poodle mix, after Sir Laurence Olivier, a British actor who has been dead since I was 4

Everything seems so clear, but I feel the shadows lurking behind me getting ready to wreak havoc. I am not seeking attention, Just finding an outlet for my frustrations and thoughts, so please just bear with me,
