We're having a prolonged spell of dull, dreary weather.

In perfect form, CP281-08 banks around the old depot at Brookfield, WI during the late hours of the day, in a 3 train afternoon procession that had both mains in use for westbound trains. Special thanks to the birds for this one, I owe you a beer!
In 1940 the British army is beaten back by the ferocity of the German war machine, the BEF spend several months in a fighting retreat back to Dunkirk, with cover from the RAF in the Battle of France. This war of the air quickly becomes the Battle of Britain, when the determination and persistence of RAF Fighter Command is tested to the limit as the German Luftwaffe bomb the South East of England.
Herman Georing (2nd from right) makes a fatal error in choosing to bomb cities instead of airfields, allowing the RAF to gain the upper hand.
The war of the Atlantic also begins as German U-boats pose a large threat to Allied shipping and the Merchant Navy (Far right) with 40 vessels lost in January alone.

I'm not having a good day today, the black dog is overwhelming me just now. Inspiration and ideas are in short supply - I tried a few things today but they were really bad. I just couldn't seem to get anything right, the lighting, exposure, focus, nothing seemed to work. This was a last minute attempt to get something, anything, and actually I quite like it. Maybe today hasn't been a total write-off...

May Day started with low cloud and mist ... I went out expecting the cloud to rise and the sun to shine through. But no, an hour later there was nothing of the hillside opposite visible at all! But it did echo the Haiku collection I'm reading ... so a homage to Basho, writing in the 17th century 😊

The only sunny highlight of my day as cloudy skies with periodic rain showers claimed the rest of the Canada Day celebrations at the rodeo and It has been pouring for days. (Insert eyeball roll here) I don't know about other people but I have had enough; time to make hay! Thankfully, this baby poked its head out briefly as if to say, "Canada eh?" Mama grebe had two newborn chicks when I left with two eggs still needing to hatch. If the weather clears I will get back there to check out how the family is doing. I know, you are thinking, "But where are the baby Loons?" Sadly, my Loons never had a successful hatching this year due to a bad windstorm that damaged the nest so I made lemonade and found this pair of Red-necked Grebes instead and have been waiting in anticipation for this day. Normally, I can't get near grebes them being amazing, expert divers and only having a 300mm lens. I have watched this new couple from the beginning battle it out and win for territorial position, then build their sturdy nest at the far end of the lake in a quiet location away from boats. Hopefully I will find loon babies at other lakes someday soon this summer, if not, there is always next year....as they only lay one set of eggs. Needless to say, this was taken from my trusty Yak!

Today is World Giraffe Day, an annual event initiated by the Giraffe Conservation Foundation to celebrate the longest-necked animal on the longest day or night (depending on which hemisphere you live!) of the year – June 21st each year.
There is still only limited information available on giraffe in the wild – so little that we often refer to giraffe as ‘forgotten giants’.
Giraffe in the wild have been largely ignored and under-researched. This situation is slowly being addressed. With a few exceptions, giraffe are in decline throughout the continent and the need for a concerted conservation effort has never been more urgent.
There are four species of giraffes and nine subspecies listed below.
Masai giraffe (Giraffa tippelskirchi) 35,000
Northern giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) 5,600
Kordofan giraffe (G. c. antiquorum) 2,000
Nubian giraffe ( G. c. camelopardalis ) 3,000
West African giraffe (G. c. peralta) 600

Popped outside today to see what I could capture for one shot a day , as it happened the sun was out and so were some bees doing their duty . A few snaps and this one looked the best and I am happy to post the shot for today .
However , when I came in and showed my wife today's shot she informed me that today is Bee Day ---------
World Bee Day 2023 is a day to raise awareness about the essential role that bees play in keeping people and the planet healthy. It takes place on Saturday, May 20, 2023234. May 20 was chosen by the United Nations in honor of the birthday of Anton Janša, the pioneer of beekeeping in the 18th century. On this day, beekeeping events are held to educate the general public. World Bee Day is different from World Honey Bee Day, which is celebrated every third Saturday in August .
The shot was taken outside by the road that goes by my garden boundary , the pavement stops short of the wall and there is a border with " Cottoneaster " planted there from when the place was built . The plant has grown up the six foot wall and cascades into the garden where some of the tendrils now reach right across the garden to the fence the other side !
Anyway , I was glad to have captured a shot of a bee today of all days !!
