The Rev David Knight stands where St Patrick's Church used to stand. Ain't nothing there any more.
The school associated with the parish, though, is standing and operating a medical clinic and relief center. You can help their work to alleviate the catastrophic impact of Katrina on their Gulf coast community by sending contributions to St. Pat's at

A note to the cautious: Discretionary Funds are carefully restricted in the Episcopal Church these days (they used to be a lot more discretionary than they are now!), and David is a model of integrity; I vouch for his trustworthiness, and church structures will be keeping a close eye on how the money gets disbursed.

Music Room, Sun Square, Lancaster, 2:55 pm. I have taken several of these reader photos in Sun Square (29, 61, 77), but people do read interesting things there. In this case, I was attracted by the many little blue tabs, just visible here, that suggested a very careful reading. I explained my project and asked permission. The book (as you can just read here) is David Knight's The Making of Modern Science. Chris is a philosopher, and he is reading it as background for his work on J. S. Mill. It turns out that his office is on the floor below mine (I have already taken a photo of someone else from his department, on campus, 25).
Thank you for participating in my project, and apologies for interrupting your reading and thinking. Other photos in my series of readers are here: www.flickr.com/photos/greg_myers/albums/72157652125931010.

For over 3 hours David Knight looked as focused and as quick as he did here on the first lap. 22 laps later the only visible difference was the amount of sand he was wearing!
