The scene at Bilpur station in Uttar Pradesh, where Indian Railways WDM-3A 16279 was easing the 00:30 Prayag Junction to Bareilly overnight PRG-BE Passenger 54377 into the back platform loop. Bilpur was stop 56 of the 60 to be completed during the 430 kms, 15 hours journey. A good number of passengers were already dropping down onto the ballast to make their way to Badanu Dataganj Marg, the road that crosses the railway next to the former signal cabin visible on the left.

This former WDM-2 machine was rebuilt at DLMW, Patiala in December 2008 and was displaying the LDH code of Ludhiana Depot.

The barrage coming up across the Ramganga at Chaubari is designed to supply protective irrigation during the Kharif season to the farmers of Dataganj. As it will not impound water during the winter or summer, it will continue to release water downstream during those seasons. It is therefore considered to be a benign barrage.

Benign is relative, however. The barrage will permanently flood a 5-kilometer stretch of the river upstream, thus robbing the poor sharecroppers of 6 villages of the only livelihood they have ever known. The fact of their not being landowners, and being either Muslim or Dalit , doubly deprives these people of a voice
