Yet another in the series of "mundane aspects of archaeology". In the center of the picture, Daniel is holding a stadia rod by a new datum rod. Someone is at the transit looking through the viewer at this stadia rod. Some numbers are recorded, some math is done, and presto, a vertical measurement!
After lifting the smaller upper metate fragment, a skull was found. Unfortunately, what we could see didn't help us determine if this was an infant burial or fanaul remains.
This was also slightly messed up by the Gradall, but a decent amount of burned rock is left. I don't really know much about this feature, but it seems to be a dispersed oval-shaped burned rock scatter.

Buckets near the pedestaled rocks, then planks on top to keep the tarp from drooping in. Ideally, even if it rains, the water will drain elsewhere.
Another example of a damaged hard disk that was butchered by a low cost, so called data recovery company. Don't trust your important data to a fly by night company that is not a proven hard drive recovery like DTI Data Recovery
This is one of the features that was messed up by the Gradall. A 1x1 meter unit was finally laid out to try and recover whatever information might remain from this feature.
worst thing could happen on a trip is you lost all the photos you took.
for my case, i almost lose all the photos i took on my canon (on my last day at angkor).
i used data recovery software to retrieve the photos back.
got back 80% of 500+ photos but some of them are broken.
e.g. this one. i didnt do anything to it, that is the way it looks like when it is got saved.
still, lucky that i got most of the photos back. so have to be thankful. =)
Android data recovery software is a good way to recover permanently deleted/lost data from Android mobile without having backup. If you have lost your data from your mobile due to any reasons then, you can try Android file recovery tool to restore data from any smartphone.

Trying to protect the units from rain with tarps and black plastic. We use our screen sawhorses to hold the tarps down. This may not look fancy, but it works pretty well.
i often hate computers. these are files from long ago that i had thought i'd lost forever. i wonder how many hundreds of files i think i have i really don't have.
The Gradall driver hacked this up pretty bad as well, but there were still some rocks and charcoal in the profile. But a lot of the feature ended up in the backdirt to the rear of Daniel.

The burned rock feature in Area D-1 after excavation. You can see that the rocks have been size sorted. This feature had a slight basin shape, and several charcoal samples were collected for radiocarbon dating.
Sign along the road into Fort Hood. It's actually really easy to drove onto the property...at your own risk.

This gives some scale to the size of the metate. It also is maybe the only photo I took today that shows the true soil color. My camera wants to make all the brown dirt very gray.
