Happily, not generally Flickr though 😊

De foto toont de enorme schaal die IT vraagt. Elke dag wordt via internet voor miljarden TB’s verzonden, dit gebeurt allemaal in nullen en enen, vandaar de keus voor zwart-wit.

Part of a wall of a datacentre. It is possible that this photo is stored behind this wall. Flickr uses servers from AWS (Amazon) for storage and AWS is a customer of this datacentre.

The photo shows the enormous scale that IT requires. Billions of TBs are sent over the internet every day, all of it in zeros and ones, hence the choice for black and white.

The photograph was taken at Dawn in a number of shots which were composed in order to get the full reflection in the photograph because my 16-85mm couldn't capture it all at once.

Living in The Netherlands, orange is our national color, and we have no shortage of subjects. Still, or maybe therefore, I struggled to find a subject. I came across a statue of Willem of Orange the II with a seagull on its head, but, well, meh. Then today, I got a tour of the datacentre on my new job (I'm a sysadmin), and I saw this beutifully arranged cables. There was my orange subject for this week.

Sitta carolinensis, the white-breasted nuthatch, is a passerine bird whom I have very often encountered, but who has been rarely photographed by me, and there does not exist a proper justification for this lack of photographs, for the white-breasted nuthatch is not merely handsome, as his behaviour is rather fascinating; he is a member of Sittidae, whose members are the only birds who are capable of climbing downward, because no other birds exhibiting anisodactyly possess the elongated hallux of the nuthatch.

Many meteorologists anticipated that the thirtieth day of the month of May of the year of 2019 would be a rainy one in the greater Saint Louis, Missouri area, and, as Mother and I were visiting the area for the purpose of attempting to find birds of any size, we expected that we may do something else on that day, such as touring the inside of a datacentre whose services have been considered by me; however, the pseudoscience of meteorology was again incorrect, for, in the Saint Louis area, the aforementioned day was in actuality sunny, permitting a productive visit to the World Bird Sanctuary.

Upon exiting the vehicle in which we arrived at the sanctuary, I sluggishly approached a set of bird feeders whose dropped seeds were being eaten by some brown-headed cowbirds; although the brown-headed cowbird is a brood parasite, I find it to be a cute species, and, as such, I wished to successfully photograph at least one of the cowbirds, but on nearly all attempts, the small brood parasites were agitated and frightened by small children, as the feeders near which the cowbirds were eating had for an unknown reason been placed in close proximity to playground equipment; after being annoyed by this process several times, I decided to visit a set of bird feeders which was placed in a different location; at this spot were seen some downy woodpeckers, of whom one was relatively non-camera-shy, red-bellied woodpeckers, and a couple of brown-headed cowbirds, who were too distant to be photographed well, of whom no likenesses were properly captured; as such, we decided to trek around the location for the purpose of watching the caged birds.

After visiting the caged birds, Mother and I returned to the bird feeder near the playground equipment, and I sat on the bench which was previously occupied by me and resumed watching the birds as they ate; the first birds who were noticed by me were brown-headed cowbirds, who were engaging in their displaying rituals, but, shortly after watching and photographing a few of these cowbirds, I heard a song which was revealed to be that of Haemorhous mexicanus, the house finch, as he grabbed and ate from a feeder which was located near me, but he was shortly replaced by a white-breasted nuthatch who was friendly toward me when compared to the behaviour of the house finch; this nuthatch eventually approached the feeder nearest me, whereas the house finch was frightened by the raising of my DSLR camera after leaving and returning to the bird feeder.

When the nuthatch did eventually grasp onto and eat from the feeder which was nearest me, I remembered that I at that time had published few photographs which contain the likeness of the white-breasted nuthatch, and, as such, I decided that I would attempt to serve the nuthatch by preserving his beauty in the form of a photograph, and, after I swore that I would attempt to photograph the nuthatch, I noticed that he was following a predictable pattern, for he grabbed a seed and dropped it at a somewhat regular interval; taking advantage of this, I calculated the time at which he would be facing away from the bird feeder and used the “continuous burst” functionality to rapidly create a series of photographs which contain the nuthatch in slightly different poses, but, as I viewed the photographs, I immediately understood that but one of them contains the likeness of the nuthatch in an acceptable pose; as such, this one photograph is the photograph which led to the composition of this document, and this photograph is the photograph which was eventually published.

As always, constructive criticism pertaining to this photograph, my writing, or any of my other photographs would be joyfully received by me, because I rather strongly wish to improve the quality of my photography. The sugar-coating of criticism directed at my creations, or even me as a person, is unnecessary, and it often simply causes the man who criticised my work to appear to have been uncertain about the legitimacy of the criticism which he gave to me. Although I attempt to extract everything which is beneficial for me from every situation in which I am involved, the lack of confidence which is displayed by those who vigorously attempt to remove any offensiveness from their criticisms leads to my suspicion of the lack of advice which would affect my creations positively. Please verbosely explain to me any flaws which are present in this photograph and were directly caused by me, e.g., clipping highlights or shadows, if they are noticed.
