Yes, that is a box fan zip tied to a cable ladder, hanging under a cooling duct.
Fail.
The racks are up on blocks.
(10 year old wire rack, the casters are starting to bend. I probably have another 10 years before it becomes a problem, but thought it wouldn't hurt to prop them up with blocks.)
Call it the dark side of virtualization: it creates as many problems as it solves, breaking established networking best practices, reducing management visibility, and even disrupting once-friendly relations between network and server administrators.
