Just over three years ago this changed from BP to Texaco after a fairly long stint with BP. Not the easiest site to photograph if one wants to include the pole sign as well as the forecourt, they are so far apart!

Toby is a frugal turtle, so his gear is ancient. But it runs at amazing speeds due to subzero temperatures in the data center. Solid ice raised floors keep things nice and cold.

Does Toby get many visitors? >

The DATS (Data Acquisition & Testing Services) OLE test train for the MML has recently had an upgrade - rather than using ROG 47s or 57s sandwiching its 2 ex-LNER 91s (91122 & 91128 "INTERCITY 50") and 8 Mk3a coaches, it now uses ex-EMR 43s 43054 & 43066 for propulsion.

I don't think a formation like this has been seen since BR did tests for an HST-E!

With calibration now nearly complete for the train's onboard computer systems, 43054 & 43066 (trailing) coast southwards past Werrington Junction on 3Q45, the 1256 test run from Doncaster back to Peterborough Eastfield Junction. Note that the pantographs on 91128 & 91122 are raised for data collection.

Taken from the Werrington Grade Separation worksite...working on that project certainly has its perks!

I just couldn't resist! ;-)

I thought this drive was empty but I did find Data on it. :-)

We're just about over Antipolo, according to my flight data. Fine view of Laguna de Bay.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Dada movement, a Pseudo-Symposium on 'Data Dada' was held at Stanford on April 13, 2016.

This event was hosted by cultural historian Piero Scaruffi, organizer of the Leonardo Art/Science Evening Rendezvous (LASERs). It was a stimulating evening with many kindred spirits, such as interactive artist Kal Spelletich (see my short video of his noise machines in this set), futurist composer Luciano Chessa (playing his electric saw), Jonathan Keats (presenting his Copernican Art Manifesto) and Burning Man's co-founder John Law, to name but a few. Through these talks, Piero aimed to link today's age to Dada's age, which was just what we needed.

I was invited invited to present our ‘Pataphysical Slot Machine at this extravagant centennial, and gave a short talk in full regalia about our community-created poetic oracle -- and the peer learning network that evolved from it. People seemed to appreciate our collaborative maker art, and I expect a few of them will come view our work in our upcoming exhibits.

I also enjoyed spending time with my friends and art partners who joined us at Stanford: Dr. Skidz, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Dr. Zboon (a.k.a. Mark ‘Spoonman’ Petrakis, who rode to Stanford with me): we had some great conversations about art, dada, politics, theater and the rise of a new humanism.

The highlight of the evening for me was meeting Kal, who demonstrated two of his noise machines, including a sling shot divining rod instrument and a robot that plays the violin when people make its light shine on a pine cone. His interactive art is really original, bringing a grunge aesthetic to a field that’s often a bit too slick. He creates magic by connecting everyday objects to do wild things with simple electronics.

Overall, it was a fun and informative evening, and I enjoyed meeting so many 'like minds', at the frontier of knowledge and imagination. Merci, les amis!

The latest update on the Nova in Sagittarius (designation PNV J18365700-2855420). Magnitude dropped now to around 7.8 at this point. This is a combination of two data runs one night after the other as I accidentially reserved myself twice on the iTelescope T9 system and as a result the longer integration time makes for a little more space noise!

It's taken me a few days to put this together as I was messing about heavily with analysis in Astrometrica, approx 6-7 moving objects found within all the Green & Blue fits data over 2 nights, one of which I believe to be asteroid Lydina (1028) at 97km diameter found at 10 o'clock to the Nova, the other Seijin-Sanso (11442) found bottom lower left of image, both main belt asteroids. There are a few possibilities in the FOV with so many moving points of light over all these fits files. Astrometrica JPG data reductions for the two are here www.flickr.com/photos/76699751@N07/18763480968/in/datepos... and here www.flickr.com/photos/76699751@N07/18328581544/in/datepos...
