Scotrail saltire liveried, Direct Rail Services (DRS), 68006 Daring heads onto Jamestown Viaduct working 2K18 07:35 Cardenden to Edinburgh Waverley.
This was the first working of this service powered by DRS locomotives and using Scotrail liveried coaches on the first day of the Abellio run franchise.
SHOT AT WHIFFLET STATION 15/09/2021. DEPICTS THE EARLY RUNNING (6E) 4D47 INVERNESS TO MOSSEND SERVICE
It's -2C and 68006 Daring is almost three hours late as it crosses the moor at Moy with 4H47, on the way to Inverness. The delay was caused by 68005 Defiant failing and 68006 having to come from Carlisle as a replacement. There was more snow overnight and the train's slipstream causes a cloud of spindrift to follow it. Nice to see the sun in these parts for a change!
Since graduating from Yale in 1967 I have done my best to fight for social justice and against racism, sexism and stupid wars. It’s been an important battle but we “have miles to go before I sleep” as Robert Frost once put it.

Daring
To be different
To challenge
Question
Wonder
And ask why and how
It could be different
Better
Brighter
Softer
Full of song
And life
Color
And brilliant light
To wander far afield
Dive in
Explore
Roam
Get away from hohumdrum
Routines
The escapes of standing still
Retiring
Avoiding the real escape
Deliverance
Revelation
And invention
The chance to challenge
Shift it all
Rock it
Make music
Write songs
New melodies
Stories of love and longing
Hope rising
Resplendent

Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary. Cecil Beaton

A new arrival in Paprihaven is Miss Derry Daring!
We honestly did not know Derry existed until seeing a photo of her online. We were of course familiar with Ideal's Evel Knievel series, and have some vintage items from the line. But, we didn't know that Ideal had also introduced a female stunt rider, complete with her own unique cycle.
We immediately thought of CooperSky's Daredevil Sindy:

Or, "Stuntjumper Sally" as Vince calls her.
So:
1. We already had the original Evel and he would certainly enjoy the company of Derry.
2. It ties in to many fun times with Daredevil Sindy's theme.
It became quite obvious that Derry Daring had to come home to Paprihaven. 😊
She has her jumpsuit which is nice. The white parts of the jumpsuit used to have a silver fabric paint but there are only a few sparse hints of that left.
We'll need to find her helmet. And her bike.
Both Evel and Derry use bendy bodies with boots, hands, and heads that all just plug in. I think this was a conscious decision by Ideal since those bodies are amazingly durable, which was a necessity given that the main feature of the toy line was the vehicles and the cranks to send the vehicles flying and crashing.
Derry needs to be cleaned a bit, and her hair brushed. She may have to settle because while we do clean the toys, we rarely brush the poor dolls' hair. 😏
💖💖💖 AWWW!!! It looks like Evel's already in love! 💖💖💖

HMS Daring moves out of Cammell Lairds No 7 drydock dead tow, to make the short journey around to the wet basin. She has been undergoing a major PIP (Power Improvment Program) to replace the old Wärtsilä generators.
She is the Second of the Type 45 to undergo this works.
Cammell Lairds cut open the hull to remove the old Wärtsilä 12V200 diesel generator sets and inserted three new Rolls-Royce MTU Series 4000 diesel generator sets at a cost of £280M for all the type 45's to be done.

She sat down by the edge to freak her mom out :)

"Finally, I look the part!"
So this is the progress I've made with Daring. I can't stand the basic version of him they brought out so I made a custom. Sam Caflin, who played the wimpy ineffectual Prince Charming in Snow White and the Huntsman also plays this character in the Hunger Games. That is why I decided to use him. Maybe I'll get a Bella from Twilight doll to be Apple's mom.
She is more fantastic in person than the promo. pictures.

Playing chicken with the Train....So far....Train 3, Me 0 (This train was moving at around 50 mph. I had approximately 3.5 seconds to get off the bridge to safety after clicking this shot) What a rush! :) The engineer was not happy and sounded the horn the entire time including another quarter mile down the tracks.
