I quite like these birds.

Living by the sea on the North East coast of England they are a constant presence. I often wonder how they perceive our colonisation of their coastal habitat and to what extent we have contributed to encouraging and fostering their pervasiveness as they scavenge our leftovers, and - mmmm - steal our chips!

This fine specimen seems unperturbed as I venture to invade its space..

I waited all day for that wind to disappear and the beautiful light. The strong yellow and orange trees plus the very low angle golden light contributed to this amazing palette of vibrant colors. The sun was just about to disappear at this point. Separation from the other fowl is what I needed to create the isolation shot I wanted. Everything came together at the perfect time in the end. Meet: Brian. My mate, and fellow-wedding-photographer extraordinaire... When he isn't propping an umbrella up, he has a tight grip on a Nikon D3; he's mean, and shoots unsuspecting guests with it.

Taken in Kensington Gardens.

Sadly in flat light but you can't have everything

I think these black phoebes look rather dapper, decked out in their formal black suit and starched white shirt. OK, maybe I'm anthropomorphizing. Black phoebes are medium flycatchers. They are monogamous. During nesting season, the male will scout out several potential nest sites, then escort the female to each, who passes judgment on the different sites and finally chooses one. Then the female does all the nest building herself. Usually 2 broods per year. Gotta keep that species going.

Many thanks for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.

We only have white-crowned sparrows in the spring and fall, so it's always a treat to look outside and see one

Heinrich Platz, Kreuzberg, Berlin, Germany. October 18, 2018.

This duck appears to be an American Black Duck x Mallard hybrid. It looks like it has a mallard body, but the head and bill of a Black Duck.
