This street photography image captures a raw, emotional moment of struggle and resilience. A young woman, possibly a teenager, sits against a stone wall with a toddler asleep in her arms. The contrast between her weary expression and the peaceful sleep of the child tells a profound story of hardship and survival. The bottle of water in the foreground reinforces the scarcity of resources, making this an impactful social documentary image.

Series "Starbucks Window Project"

We are so many in this world we live in that every day we have to push our way in little harmless (well, most of the time!) "fights" over the small things, like who gets the sugar and milk first at the cafe, who gets the only seat available, who enters or exits the subway car first, who's the last to bid on that priceless item on EBay to take it home, etc.

In the bustling streets of Binondo, Manila's Chinatown, a young boy takes a power nap in front of his family’s sari-sari store, exhausted from a life of survival and responsibility. With his arms crossed over his face and body curled in fatigue, this image captures the silent struggles of youth working to support their families. This is more than just rest—it’s a moment of endurance, sacrifice, and perseverance in the heart of the city

While driving up the challenging Sani Pass into Lesotho, I came across this Mosotho man carrying sticks and wood up the mountain. His survival depends on gathering and trading this wood for food each day. Life in these remote, harsh environments is tough, and seeing this firsthand truly makes you reflect on the difficulties some face just to meet basic needs. It's a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of people in communities far from the modern conveniences we're used to.

Intense lower back pains without a real reason or solution. Worst part of my everyday life. Striking pain that at times makes my body lock up and almost fall over. Does not work well with being on my feet all day.

My day two is an homage to my father, Grizzled Old Dog.. I re-created one of his ideas for his own 365 project that he had been working on for a long time, until his laptop got stolen at work and all his photos went with it. I can't even imagine losing everything like that. So this is for you, dad. A sort of tribute. I hope you do your project someday.

Also, thank you Pareeerica for the texture

this is a later shot (outside the target minute) that is closer to what i was going for in this one.

Struggle For a Socially Inclusive JNU March On ! ~.

Salute The Spirit Of May Day In All The Struggles Ahead !!.

JNUSUcongratulates the studentcommunity for the significant breakthroughs that were achieved at yesterday's Acaciemic Councilmeeting, which will go along way In ensuring asocially inclusive and just campus. One of the main issues was the implementation of 27%OBC reservation. There was a marathon discussion on this issue, which saw strong opposition from several sections of the faculty who _,.

were visibly upset at the idea of a more inclusive admission system. Though they could not openly articulate their opposition to.

reservations because ofthe recent Supreme Courtjudgement, they tried to scuttle the spirit of JNU's Inclusive admission.

policy by suggesting that all categories of the deprivation point in the JNUadmission policy be removed, if OBC reservations.

are to be implemented. It is most unfortunate that this opposition came despite the AC's own decision last year to implement OBCreservations at one go in JNU as well as retention of relevant categories of the deprivation point system. JNUSU strongly opposed.

these objections. .

Following a long discussion, AC finally decided that 27% OBC reservations would be implemented at one go from thecoming academic session itselfand that the gender and the backward region deprivation points would remain (while removingthe backward caste deprivatil'1 points). Clear guidelines have been laid out for implementation of reservation in such a manner that thegeneral/open seats remain at last year's level. The deliberations that took place regarding OBC reservations and the deprivationpoint system were yet another Indicatorthat constant vigilance is required even to implement laws ofthe land, as there willalways be attempts to scuttle and destroy the potential of any progressive policy..

JNUSU'sprolonged struggle for correcting a historic injustice and discrimination towards students from Madarsa backgroundswas also clinched at the AC meeting. The AC finally decided that Madarsa certificates would now be recognised by JNU from thecoming academic session itself. Also, the process of recognising Madarsas will continue: as per the suggestions in the.

report tabled by the Equivalence Committee. .

Friends, it is indeed momentous that the recent protracted student struggle for OBC reservations and recognition of Madarsa.

certificates has finally succeeded in clinching these key issues, braving several roadblocks and overt and covert attempts to subvert.

them. The JNU student movement has always struggled to charter a new path, pioneering a new vision of campuses which are all.

inclusive. The fact that today JNU has opened its doors to a larger section ofthe student community is a significant milestonein the student movement, and carries forward the legacy ofthe struggle for deprivation points and against privatisation inJNU. .

JNUSU strongly resisted the proposal for reduction ofseats in many centres, particularly in CIL, but also tn other centres inSL, SIS, SLS and SES. In light ofthe new situation where the total number of seats in all centres will be increased in order.

to enable implementation of OBC reservation, the proposal placed in the ACto reduce the intake stands null and void and.

every centre is now required to come upwith fresh and expanded offer intake proposals for the coming session. JNUSU iscommitted to ensure that any scheme in the future to reduce the number of seats is decisively undone. The AC has ratified introduction of direct Ph. D. programmes in the Group of Adult Education, Women Studies Programme and theStudy of the Discrimination and Exclusion. Introduction of a pre-Ph.D. programme in the School of Information Technology was alsoratified. .

JNUSU, highlighting theApril25 agreement with the administration, soughtAC's promised intervention on issues ofinstituting anational fellowship for PH students equivalent to the Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship, and starting a unit for career counselling and researchguidance.Along with these, JNUSU sought the AC's intervention on all the issues inJNUSU's Charter of Demands.Since November 2006, ensuring rights for the workers on the campus has been an integral part of JNUSU's dailystruggles. Braving administrative crackdown, JNUSU has consistently been struggling for implementation of the fundamental, legally.

mandated minimum rights for workers' for the past one and a half years which used to be rampantly violated. The agitation againstviolation of workers' minimum wages and facilities has had some results: JNU Administration has corrected some contractsof someworkers in JNU and as a result they are now getting paid according to minimum wage laws. However, flagrant violation continues inseveral other contracts llke migrant workers on the sprawling construction sites. Further, other legally mandated facilities like identitycards for all workers, proper records of PF/ESI deductions, creches, first aid, toilets for men and women, rest room, display boardsciting minimum wages and rights etc are still a far cry. JNUSU has consistently raised these issues at all levels, and at all availableplatforms.Thestudent movement, along with the teaching community has to constantly stand in solidarity with the workers, to ensure that.

their rights are not violated. .

"' Today is May 1st. the day ofworkers' struggles and sacrifices. The workers' movement ofthe 1880s had struggled foran8-hour working day and against brutallsation ofthe workers. Today, 120 years later, we find the historic gains won with the.
