today my dad died, and I no longer have my biggest fan

This is going to be a little deep.

I got into photography because of my dad, we would go on trips and he would pull out the 35mm(s)! I loved the photos!

Back in high school I always used those cameras downtown Chicago.. buildings, light trails, windows, doors, etc

For some reason I stopped....it was always in the back of my mind

Years later Photography came up because of something my Oncologist said to me: I needed a hobby

I had been sending my dad cell phone photos of storms and sunsets in Arizona. It all clicked I should buy a DSLR and the rest is history....39 national parks later 350,000K photos

I have my hobby thanks DAD.

RIP ....

Rod Stewart said it best:

And like a fistful of sand, it can slip right through your hands"

Why did you tell him he could take my picture. I didn't even get a chance to fix myself up.

I never had a close relationship with my father. He died in 2014.

One of my childhood memories is that we used to watch a documentary together every friday night. It was at a time when there were only 3 TV channels out there.. *smile* ... now you know that I must be quite old .. but TV already was in color *grins*

What's left is my love for documentaries bout nature, sience, travels ... and the fragrance of the vanilla tobacco of that pipe...

The male of the Tree Swallow couple that nested in our yard this summer. This was when he still had time to sit because after 6 babies hatched, he was too busy. Of the 6 babies, 5 fledged and 1 died in the box. I suspect it was the smallest one and did not get enough food. There was always a "bully" monopolizing the hole and not letting the others through so he was fed the most. Taken in our back yard in Calgary, Alberta.

Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.

A fellow photographer suggested trying a harder crop to get a closeup of the interaction between the male pileated woodpecker and his male offspring.

You have fulfilled your purpose here on earth, Dad...go to Mom. My father is whole again after passing yesterday. I will miss you, but find comfort knowing that you are happy again with mom. God Bless and see you later, dad.

I spent yesterday remembering Dad, at one of his favourite parks. Before he went on ahead in 2000, he suggested that we could honour him by taking the grandkids out for ice cream. We continued that tradition yesterday on his birthday. It's good to remember those we've loved and those who've loved us.

Mural by French artist Zabou in the centre of Coventry. She calls this piece “Dad” and I love how the child is looking directly across the street. Looks like I’ve been clocked, but nothing unusual in that!

We were so very fortunate to see this Western Kingbird nest recently. She was sitting on the nest when we first saw it. When we returned a couple weeks later, the babies were hiding under her. They appeared to be close to fledging so we looked in on them a few days later to find them out of the nest.

Dad was standing guard against Crows and other invaders.

It was such a treat to see them just briefly through the nesting process at a respectable distance. I waited to post until they were gone.

My Father looks at the remembrance memorial, he was an officer in the RN during the conflict. Here he is 10 months before he joined his comrades.
