From dabbling with DNA to concocting chemistry creations and using real satellite data to investigate climate change, high school students from around New South Wales will visit UOW for a fun three days of school holiday science from 8-10 July. Photo shows Hannah Wales of Holly Trinity High School.
dabbling in more pinhole work. A picture of Albert Road throught the pinhole cam #2 (now no longer since Fred decided to eat it)
Never paired roses and tulips before until Dabble -- a small, woman-owned store in Northeast Minneapolis. They just celebrated 9 years in business and I like to head into the city and support them when I can. Bought Lizzie's birthday presents there. The tulips are just beginning to open. That's waxflower in-between. It has a wonderful smell.

"The American Black Duck hides in plain sight in shallow wetlands of eastern North America. They often flock with the ubiquitous Mallard, where they look quite similar to female Mallards. But take a second look through a group of brown ducks to notice the dark chocolate-brown flanks, pale grayish face, and olive-yellow bill of an American Black Duck. Numbers of this shy but common duck declined sharply in the mid-twentieth century. Hunting restrictions have helped to stabilize their numbers, although habitat loss remains a problem." - www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/American_Black_Duck/id
Teals are small dabbling ducks. Males have chestnut coloured heads with broad green eye-patches, a spotted chest, grey flanks and a black edged yellow tail. Females are mottled brown. Both show bright green wing patches (speculum) in flight. They are thinly distributed as a breeding species with a preference for northern moors and mires. In winter birds congregate in low-lying wetlands in the south and west of the UK. Of these, many are continental birds from around the Baltic and Siberia. At this time, the UK is home to a significant percentage of the NW European wintering population making it an Amber List species.
Best looked for in good numbers in winter on wetlands, both coastal and inland. Particularly important sites include the Somerset Levels and the Mersey Estuary.
Photographed at Purcell City Lake, Purcell, Oklahoma, on 30 April 2023.

Apologies for yet another duck photo, but this little lady regularly calls for a photo shoot.
Mallards are one of the most often seen of all the 'dabbling ducks' - quite greedy but also rather entertaining, and the feathers are quite amazing when viewed close-up.
Can you help me identify this duck at London Wetland Centre, Barnes, London?
Now identified as a (male) Ringed Teal on the Open University website iSpot.
iSpot is a very useful resource for identifying unknown species. Upload a picture there with the location that you saw the creature, for expert help.
