Did you know there are many legends about Bellflowers in many cultures? For instance, in Celtic mythology, fairies used bellflowers as trumpets to ward off enemies and cal their friends and family. They were also used as portals for fairies to travel between their own realm and the world of man.

Did you know Sir Henry Cole is credited with creating the first Christmas Card in 1843, because he had too many friends? In Victorian, England it was a tradition to send a Christmas/New Year’s letter, and more people were observing this because the Penny Post stamp had made it easier and more affordable. It was considered rude not to respond to mail, and so he had a 1000 cards printed with a scene of a family at a festive table and Holiday Greetings. Problem solved, and a new tradition begun.

Did you know, although legend has it that Mrs. O’Leary’s cow started the Great Chicago fire of 1871, one of America’s biggest infernos, historians doubt it happened that way - or at least that Mr.s O’Leary was involved? The fire most certainly started near the O’Leary’s barn, but drought, high winds & lots of wooden buildings made conditions right for a fire. Anti-Irish sentiment was high, so an Irish scapegoat was welcome to be blamed for the 300-some deaths, and 100,000 + left homeless. Years later, a reporter admitted to making up the story. The Chicago City Council officially exonerated Mrs. O’Leary in 1997.

Did you know about 90% of a Bambiraptor skeleton was discovered in 1993 by a 14 year old who was out fossil hunting with his parents at the Glacier National Park?
Oh, permanent masking fluid, you are not gaining my respect. I mixed it with yellow watercolor for this painting. I waited a good 24 hours before painting over it. In some areas it did its job, in other areas it allowed some of the yellow to mix with color being painted over. I think this has to do with how much liquid is mixed with the paint. I tried to mix the two thoroughly and evenly, but there is no way to tell for sure. I also found that when I wet the mix to remove another color beading up, some of the mix lifted. So it could be how much water is in the brush when you paint over it.

Did you know there is some debate over the origin of the Raggedy Ann doll? it is known Johnny Gruelle patented the Raggedy Ann design in 1915 and published the first Raggedy Ann book in 1917, and many believe the doll was based on the doll of his daughter, Marcella who died at 13. But there are many variations concerning the doll itself - it was found in an attic by either Johnny or his daughter, either before or after Marcella was born, and Johnny drew the face on it, or it was made by a relative. There are many other variations of the story, most coming from Johnny himself, who evidently found it funny to spread different stories.
